The end of 2017 we moved out of the city and into the country. We purchased a small farmhouse on 3 acres in Missouri. Over the past year we have tilled for a small garden. We also have chickens and are working on a greenhouse.
Our garden is 30ft by 50ft. We are in planting zone 5. We love getting our hands dirty planting new and fun things.
Learning a few skills now to better prepare myself for the journey that lies ahead. Basic skills like food preservation, gardening, raising animals and making homemade items.
So Come along as I do and attempt to learn the basic skill for self-sufficient.

Ya, title says it all. I am behind on the garden this year. Its been a odd year in Missouri. Tho I did harvest some goods. I am very happy about it
Why are you using a corn sheller on black walnuts?
I didn't see how you did your roof and particularly the middle top roof piece. Is there a video on that? ty
Ive seen a mushroom while going out at October, these mushrooms look exactly the same but there is a color difference. Mine is white yours is brown. But the one ive seen was really big. It was also thin.. unusually thin.
Hi..what is the clear material you used called?
Can you make a video on how to grow raspberry from seeds?
I'll have to look around for seeds, if I find some I will.
Awesome! My family and I are going strawberry picking today. I'm definitely making syrup!
How much did this project cost
The pin was about 160.00 at Menards and the poly was from Menards I think it was 20.00 each panel.
This is what we are doing, nice job. Where did you get polycarbonate?
Finally, the answer to the question “ why did the chicken cross the road” = better bugs 🐛 🐜 🕷
How does it do in the summer, does it get really hot inside?
It's gets hot, some times to hot.
I have a question. I just germinated some Alpine white soul strawberries. There's at least 33 or so that popped. Still potential for more. I'll probably give some to my sister in law. I also plan on using wicking planter pots. My question is, how big of a pot do I need to plant one plant? I have 5 gal. buckets turned into wicking pots. How many strawberry plants will fit comfortably in a 5 gal. bucket? Or what size pot do you suggest?
How did they resolve this?
I'm trying to figure this out
I bought raw milk but don’t think it had any cream in it !! Does that matter ?
Oh no lol. Thank you for sharing this. I havethe same dog kennel and I will need to do this for my citrus plants this winter. I cant Thank you enough for sharing this "How To" video series. It is extremely helpful.
I love the organic raw milk straight from the cow! Been drinking it fir years. It’s especially sweet and good when it’s barley season and they get barley in their feed. Yummy! Never cook good old fashioned raw milk cuz you kill the good enzymes! But yes you need to ask that they don’t top the cream off your milk. But you don’t need to be that careful scooping the cream off the top and rinse the whey out with ice water after making the butter so it doesn’t spoil. It will get mold if it isn’t rinsed in ice water. And a bit of salt helps it to keep also. So yummy and good for you. Cooking it defeats the health benefits. And use the buttermilk in a salad dressing or something. Much Shalom!
It seriously looks like they kept the cream from you before they gave you the milk. A gallon of milk should give you much more than that.
I found your channel because of your planting strawberry seeds video. I'm interested in how that worked out for you.? Thank you.
They sprouted, and got about an inch tall. I lost them do to over crowded
While you can certainly extract the butterfat from whole milk using a mixer, you don't really want to run it at a high speed with a whisk unless you want whipped cream. The traditional way to make butter is with a churn which passes the paddle through the whole milk relatively slowly. The idea is to get the fat to bond together without introducing air into the mass. Using a whisk does just the opposite. It is designed to blend and aerate ingredients. You would be better served using the paddle at a speed no greater than 2. If you need a splash guard, you are running the mixer waaay too fast. Further, I really don't think it is necessary to completely separate the cream prior to churning. A container of whole milk will have butterfat all the way to the bottom of the container. The deeper you go, the lower the percentage of butterfat. So, if you are interested in yield, go ahead and pour beyond the "cream line." The quality of the finished product will not be any less, but you may have to "churn" a little longer to maximize the yield. Be sure to keep in mind that any dairy product which has not been pasteurized may contain enzymes and bacteria which can shorten shelf life, or worse, pose serious health risks. If you choose not to pasteurize, be sure to keep both the feed-stock and finished products well-chilled, and use within a few days of the milk's production.
Where did you get those corrugated clear plastic panels and what are they called. Love your farms name by the way.
What is raw milk
Milk straight from the animal, not processed.

Yes
I have had good success with alpine strawberries but zero germination with hybrid varieties. can anyone explain why? does it need cold stratification ?
Hate y'all are have to deal with the rocks , looks good finished
Ya, we have a few things in the ground.
Nar’thn howdo : translated hello how are you doing looks like he was having fun... have fun planting may you have a bountiful harvest
Yes, he had a lot of fun.
I don't know George looks like hard work
Age old question lol , they are attracted to the road for some reason we have the same problem with people flying by here
Ya, it seems to be doing well. No chickens in the road.
YUMMY ! look'n good !
Thank you.
Just keep working it and it will level good for planting. Like old school said remove the big stuff, and it will be even better next year. Plant rye all in it during the winter to put nutrients back in the soil when you till it back up.
That soil looks rich. I lay my rows and use 10-10-10 when I plant the seed or plants, on corn I use 10-10-10 first until plants are about 2' tall then I put 34-0-0 and it is a strong fertilizer so be careful not to much. You have a great channel, and a new friend here, I'm in N. Florida, the Big Bend area. Thanks for sharing your adventures. I'm just getting started with videos, so when you watch some of them Beware...lol.. Thanks and remember to smash my subscribe button. Stay connected.
Love chickens and watching them living their lives. LOL loved it when the Rooster protected one of his girls.
They are funny to watch. Thanks for watching
Haha grumpy cats, that was tense
Here to support your channel and hope you can do the same!!🍒🍒🍒🍒
Hello, saw you on Two Family live feed. Just subbed. Check us out, we are trying to grow. Thanks.
We love using scrap lumber and milk crates. Both were utilized in our nesting box build!
The plastic is on the inside on the metal. The upper part above the metal is on the outside.its to help seal it.
I'm curious why you put plastic over the Galvalume on the outside?
Wait.. is this the same greenhouse that had the clear sheeting on it? I am so confused, but I love the reuse of the kennel.
Yes, I did some changes to it. I have new videos coming, internet is not that great.
what worked better? The sheets or the plastic?
Gracious, that's a lot on snow mam!!! Dan
Canola oil 3.20 oz, coconut oil 9.60 oz, palm oil 6.40 oz, olive oil 12.80 oz water 12.16 oz, lye 4.58 oz. And 1oz lemongrass
You're right, You need a lot more cream. Growing up in Pakistan my mom used to collect the cream from fresh buffalo milk for almost a week before she would have enough cream that could produce butter that could fill a small jar. If you ever get a chance to make a good amount of butter, perhaps I could interest you in trying to make Ghee out of the butter. Its basically clarified butter that is supposedly healthier and a bit more tastier than butter. There are a number of videos on youtube that show you how to make ghee from butter. Goodluck
Th, hope you have a great garden as well.
I’m so excited for you in regards to your gardening adventures for this year. We plant several of the same varieties. Best of luck with your herbs. 😊
