A a Chesterfield fan I have great memories of us playing Villa in the third division in 71 - 72 seasons, What a great star studded side they were. Ten years later they were European champions, and now they come again. Great club.
I was there, in the Holte End, what an atmosphere
48,000 crowds in the third division. Wow.
Glory days massive crowds players never got injuries like they do today unbelievable
I was born 72 was a fan 82 51 now utv
My first Villa game as a kid. 5-1 win at home v Torquay United in Division 3. Memories.
Third division ?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Chico rip
Trevor McDonald...😂😂😂
Today you could not make a joke like that..I'm asian by the way..
@@kailashpatel1706 Wow! RUclips deleted my very nice and courteous reply to you.
@@stephenturner6075 Basically what did you say again Bro?
@@kailashpatel1706 It's pointless typing it all out again just for it to be deleted once more. I would have loved to have known what you thought about my reply to see if we were on the same wavelength but alas, the RUclips algorithm is my enemy.
Villa in the 3rd was the best thing that ever happened to it. Massive crowds home and away. A lot of clubs made some good money from Villa. Season ticket holder.
Unforgettable game villa vs Bournemouth arguably the best goal i EVER saw at villa park ted mc dougal whatta atmosphere 48110 i remember it well i was 13 yrs old
Ruined my childhood this did remember being 8 and being deprived of seeing England in the first world cup id be able to watch because of koeman cheating
Evertonian here 2 fuckin great sets off fans and clubs
That was a special time. Did I just see Brian Little head the ball? (Let alone score a goal with his head). Oh I do like to be beside the sea side.
I keep coming back to this video. It was a magic time.
Yes me too I keep replaying villa vs Bournemouth classic
The Old Holte End looks magnificent
The best one. Ronny what a great sport.
RIP Andy lockhead my first villa hero Andy , Andy lockhead, Andy lockhead in the air
Where they should stay ( A Baggie!)
Love seeing Villa Park back in those days. The Holte was the greatest, largest terracing and if you never stood in it you have no idea how loud and atmospheric it was.
We don’t talk about Jimmy Savile anymore mate!!
From that to European Cup win in 11 years with no sugar daddy, not 20 odd years like Manky City are shouting about with all the money to burn.
The golden days.
😆👍💓
Thanks for the memories!! UTV.
The Big Man’s Still Alive! Happy Birthday Andy Lochhead! What A Fantastic Footballer He Was Big And Strong In The Air! You Didn’t Want To Mess About With Him! Absolutely Fantastic To Hear He’s Still Around!
Look at the Holte!! Incredible. Fans of today - many who wouldn't have even stood on terracing - have no idea what the Holte was like back then. Even the Witton End was huge but the Holte? Biggest and best in country. Liverpool? Ha ha ha.
One of my chief memories about supporting Villa in the 1970s. What a night. Fitting that Brian Little got the winning goal. Old Trafford was a cauldron of noise I remember when the final goal went in. I saw grown men crying with relief and joy. A golden period to be a Villa fan.
As an Oldham fan, I saw Villa win 6-0 at Boundary Park in 1971. Lochhead scored a hat trick, and became an Oldham player in 1973. Best goals were two long rangers from Bruce Rioch - what a performer to have in your side at this level. The game was on Granada TV's Sunday afternoon show, but I suspect the recording no longer exists.
Sadly the footage of that Oldham game no longer exists, however ironically the Kick Off Match games shown the week before and the week after do exist in the ITV archives. ALSO Aston Villa's ONLY home game that season on Star Soccer vs Torquay United no longer exists, however Villa's ONLY away game featured vs Walsall does exists.
You had to give Chester a lot of credit in that competition that year, they even thrashed the then League champions Leeds united 3 : 0 not bad for a fourth division team at the time, Villa always do well in this competition.
its bad they have the same sorts
The greatest club ever. We gave the World competitive football, courtesy of Mr William McGregor.
Absolutely correct, I tell the world this, to my boy, he's 25 now, & an excellent rugby player, & to those that listen, &, to those that don't! We, are, the greatest club on earth it is a fact ! don't know how anyone can even try to argue about that fact ! U T V 😊 👍 Just to add, my name is, Duncan Edwards, but I can tell you, I despise the Monstrosity United, all the more for that !! Roll along Aston Villa roll along, to the top of the league where we belong......
@@DuncanEdwards-h8k Spot on, Sir!
Was Denis Leary able to speak without Bill Hicks there to copy from
Brian Little was an absolutely brilliant player but he was lazy as hell. He would hang around doing nothing for 99% of the gane and then do something world class for a few seconds. If he had been as hard working as some of the other players I'm convinced he could have been one of the best players of his time.
10 years old when my dad took me.
Absolutely magnificent villa team, our fans were in Rapturous form that game. Legend's .
look at the Holte 😍
Still watching now on lockdown...funny as f**k....Plz bring them back
I was there. The roar from the crowd when Andy Lochhead scored the winner was incredible. The start of 10 glorious years for the Villa culminating in becoming European champions.
The Holte End at Villa Park and The South Bank at Molineux- massive and very similar open terracing.
fuck off lawson you gobshite.
Played on a cow pasture.
The left side for me also. But this was when the Holte wasn't segregated because of FA cup semi finals. Always looked amazing on tv when a goal went in and only half the Holte went crazy. those were the days. Always has been the greatest football stadium in England with the history to go with it.
Indeed 👏
Dont remind me..

GRAYDON!
My first Villa hero. He played on the right wing in my first Villa match v Leicester in 1976. We were sat in the old Trinity Rd stand and could see the clumps of mud flying up from his boots every time he took off up the field. He scored alongside Andy Gray to give Villa a home victory that day. Boy could Ray Graydon shift. Top, top player!
Just look at the Holte End on the last match in this clip!!
Yep, amazing!
Would anyone be kind enough to explain the Tom Webster, 1934 FA Cup final joke?
Ewan Farrell it was a running gag from the series - Tom Webster used to make "humorous remarks" about 1930s football which were so terrible they ended up being funny.
curiousorange1982 Cheers! Really appreciate the reply. Never seen this show when it was originally aired, but going through a binge of watching these clips now! Hilarious!

Manchester City are now pressing.. They're so pressing they're almost urgent
My first season at the villa 18months old
Blimey, 2 replays. Nowadays you'd have to take out a 2nd mortgage to go to that many games.
RIP Graham Taylor, if you had been Welsh we would've adored you.
