Well Sadi 🙏🏻💞🎶💞👌
How does one start to develop their mind for pain. I’m going to have a spinal fusion which is going to be extremely painful for 2-3 months . I worry I won’t handle it well and pain meds won’t work on me
Thank you for your comment @ClaraTimmins and for your openness in sharing a challenging experience that's on the horizon for you. I would highly recommend watching another one of our interviews called 'How I Conquered Chronic Pain: The Inspiring Power of Meditation'. This conversation includes practical tips for pain management that you may like to try. All the best with your health in the coming months.
Wonderful. However, one thing has bugged me my entire life. Whether it's a catholic nun, a buddhist, a buddhist nun. They all preach the same things - love, compassion, positivity but not one of them knows how to smile. The greatest gift from God.
Thank you for your comment @weareirishdogs I agree, a smile is certainly one of the most beautiful gifts we can bring to the world. I've met lots of nuns in the Kadampa Buddhist tradition and they all have lovely smiles. This was certainly a discussion about in-depth, potentially challenging subject matter, so maybe it's context dependent. Thanks for watching!
Thank you both so much for such a beautiful conversation. This is my first visit to your channel. I have subscribed and will recommend you to my friends. I am a Pagan and it seems I am trying to live a Buddhist way of life without knowing it. I am definitely going to learn more about this wonderful practice. Blessed Be from Canada. ❤
Thank you for your comment @dianethompson2458 and welcome to our channel! Wonderful to hear that this inspiring conversation has resonated with how you're aspiring to live your life. Thank you for subscribing and sharing with others, and we hope you enjoy watching the other conversations posted so far. There'll be a new one each week.
❤death is the only truth in this world
@bakmaharangana Thank you for your thought-provoking comment. It truly is the only certainty in this world. If this topic interests you, definitely check out our interview with Gen Rabten called 'Freedom from Anxiety: Buddhist Meditations the Unlock Fearlessness'. It includes advice for embracing the truth of death and living more fearlessly as a result.
Sooo useful, thanks for such a brilliant idea!! May these teachings pervade the internet!!🎉
@HnosVargasCastillo Thank you for your comment! So pleased to hear you found this particular advice helpful. Definitely check out the full version of this podcast - it's full of priceless gems. We certainly hope this practical wisdom will pervade the internet too.

The best thing we can do is to invest in something that does not die.
@sonamz600 wise words
Even if the mind and Brain work in a independant way, they are inseprable. The mind responds to the brain neural function and its condition. As soon as we learn to practice mindfullness, then the mind has the power to reshape and rewire the brain. In other words, our brain can become the most powerfull tool for a deeper more meaningfull life.
@Yolanda88 Thank you for your comment and profound insights - I do think some people with out of body experiences might question your comment on the inseparability of mind and brain though.
Many westerner become Buddhist because only Buddhism bring truth sense
@liowpohhuat9107 thank you for watching the episode and sharing your thoughts.

Are those fake candles?
@maaikevermoen1727 We'd probably say pleasing ambient lighting with a low fire risk... thanks for watching and commenting
Thank you
@lupecandelario2255 you're so welcome
Thank you, for sharing your experiences. The caring woman, riddled with cancer, still showed compassion, for her husband -preparing meals, for her husband before she passed. Without drugs, pain free. Strong faith.
@nicholaskearney678 It's such a powerful example isn't it - thanks for commenting, Nicholas
What is the meaning of riccupping ?
@janicehenry5636 hiccupping? In the Buddhist understanding of the workings of the body, we explore the element energies of earth, wind, fire, and water... and as we approach death these energies weaken... hiccupping while urinating can be a sign of the wind element weakening and so indicate that the death process will begin over the next months... of course it could also be a coincidence. In any case Gen Gomlam was referring to this in her episode.
Thank you for the video. I am a hospital chaplain and have an affinity for helping dying patients. Your podcast has lit a new thought in my mind. I will listen and read and follow this call I feel.
@chaplaincullerton1265 What wonderful work you do! Thank you! And so glad our podcast has inspired you - do check out the other episodes too.
Magnificent insight, with death in two ways; 21st century, or the original, without interference. Blessings too you, uplifting too- “what is it, that leaves?” Superb interview, inspiring for any human journey. N
@nicholaskearney678 Really appreciate your comments, Nicholas, thank you for watching.
Very much needed one, loved it all through. How buddhist teaching help's one overcome the haunting fear of death or rather handling it the right way was something nice to listen. Thanks a lot for this podcast.
@sampathkumar2277 so glad you enjoyed it - do check out our other episodes - lots of gems in all of them.

ta very much
Good subtitling - thank you
@maja-mw That's really delightful and helpful feedback - thank you!
The Bible is clear what happens at death. We stand before Jesus Christ for judgment. Why? Because we are all sinners. He died to pay the penalty for sin, which penalty is death. He was sinless, so death could not hold him. He offers pardon to anyone who acknowledges they are a sinner, believes he rose from the dead, and accepts his payment on their behalf. If you refuse to acknowledge you are a sinner worthy of death, you will pay for your sins forever, in Hell. None of us know how long we have in this life. Please turn to him before it is too late. Hebrews 9:24-28 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
Thank you for listening to the podcast and commenting.
That was awesome !
@AHumanEndeavor So glad you enjoyed it!
The mind is not the brain. Is so true. J.Krishnamurti explaines this in very different situaties .
@RixtTjarda Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you!
@YasasJaya9 So glad you enjoyed it!
Just wonderful example of using the practice to reduce pain and suffering! ❤Thank you!
@ISLFinancial So glad you enjoyed it, Ike!
Wow🙏🍃
@Tpree84726 Such a helpful example isn't it!
Regarding death, "something leaves".... In Buddhism there is something called fundamental ignorance. It is the human tendency to support an illusion of independence. So does "something leave"? Sure, some illusion of static and immortal existence of a person leaves. Actually the absolute truth of all things is interdependence. So all things change and all things are interdependent. In that nature of reality things are always changing,waxing and waning.
@thomasschwarz1973 Thank you for your post Thomas, that's very profound and we don't disagree. We have episodes coming soon that explore the themes you're raising, do check out the other episodes on the channel,.
So true 👍
@juliancarion9761 Thank you Julie :-)
The teachings are great, but what amazes me is the aura of honesty she has. Honesty is, in some way, an indication of selflessness/altruism orientation.
@juanromero7189 That's a really beautiful comment, Juan, and so true!
Thanks for sharing this story. Really helpful in dealing with difficult people.
@RebeccaGauthier It's so helpful isn't it, Rebecca, thanks for commenting.
What I have discovered affirms the duality of brain & mind. Source is the substance of the mind/soul. It exists between the spaces between the atoms we are composed of. 🙏🏼
@gospelofthomas77thpearl22 Thank you for sharing these profound insights.
As ridiculous as this sounds I have a fear of what happens after death ie. Being buried.
@lynnehorizon5532 Dear Lynne, thank you for commenting, you may want to check out our episode on freedom from anxiety.
What a beautiful conversation. Thank you both.
@nomadartlife So glad you enjoyed it!
How can we be sure that after brain dies, something continues?
@dimitrisjim1216 That's a really important question - we'll explore it more in future episodes.
I believe that consciousness is everything, it is all encompassing. We are not separate from anything. I love watching NDE accounts here on RUclips. However- I don’t agree with this Nun when she says that we can/will “die without regrets”. It’s a nice thought but there’s no way. We all have regrets, what if’s. Regret is a part of life. We have choice and free will, and so, we have regret too.
@mariannemcginnis7274 Thank you listening and commenting Marianne.
Buddhism is the most boring and empty of all religions/philosophies, it is the antithesis of LIFE. Life is about creativity,individualism,being eccentric and original, while buddhism basically advocates for a very flat existence. Just look at buddhist monks, there is no life going in them, all grey and indifferent and regurgitating the same stuff for centuries
Thank you both so much! Miri has told my story of the last four years and intuitively I have been doing some form of this perhaps clumsily and thanking my pain as my Guru. This podcast has taken me to the next level. Gratitude and Love ❤ I am so happy I found this channel. Liked, subscribed and sharing ☮️
@julieprince5538 This is such a beautiful response to the episode, thank you Julie.
Thank you 🙏
@karmentine2324 Thank you!
The story about the dying wife preparing meals for her husband struck me to my core.
@TyroneCLove So glad it moved you like this, Tyrone.
How does this work with Alzheimer’s when memories are dying?
@patriciasedgewick5005 Hi Patricia, that's a big topic, but one thing I have seen is people with advanced Alzheimer's who have largely forgotten the people and events of this life, who none the less continue to show a real affection, kindness and compassion to others. The surface memories may dissappear, but if we have made our heart one with compassion that seems to linger - and that continues to protect the mind.
@@modernbuddhismpodcast Thank you for your reply so reassuring to know compassion lingers and protects the mind for our on going journey. 🪷🪷🪷
Beautiful experience.
