I have an A35 with the Burmester setup and have a similar taste in music as you. Sorry, but the Burmester 'upgrade' is terrible. Flat audio response and no emotion in the low and high frequencies. Having just a 3 pole EQ in a 12 speaker system is a total oversight and suggests the frequencies aren't being split through a crossover (I could be wrong). The subwoofer is pathetic and can't boost any frequencies under 100Hz (the main job of a sub!).
Interesting. I got a new car couple months ago with Bang and Olufsen 3D system, and I really like it. And it’s better than Burmeister I used to have in my Merc. Maybe I’ll do a review soon.
Hey, Deo. Thanks for your nicely presented and informative video. I have been contemplating up grading from the Beyerdynamic dt990 pro 250 holms, to the dt1990 pro, you mentioned. These AA hi-65. I had also considered. As they get good reviews and I've seen a big price drop. £197.93.
Glad you found it useful. Dt1990 Pro are great but lack detail that hi-65 have. In any case, make sure you use any headphones with Sonarworks to get the best sound. Otherwise, both DT and AA sound kind of meh.
A very intensive & informative flick there Dearie... Doesn't matter that You betrayed them Beyers with Austrian Audio lately... I absolve You of your sin, for You are a good one in the grand scheme of things and it is good to have Your profesional point of view among all the other reviewers which come from an amateur audiophile background !😇! You made a very important observation, which in the past times was seldom made... Each of US hears the same gear differently... Our ear canals + auricles shapes, the dimensions of Our heads and their interiors... Everything makes everyone unique in the way We perceive sound and no frequency measurment curves or reviewer obserwations are universally correct (They all are only waypoints on Our individual journeys for the ultimate sound coloration)... Lets remember this for all times Dearies (Also remember that Deo Azben is a good girl, which makes good vids) !🧐! And as Andrew Eldritch from The Sisters of Mercy sang 'I want more!!!'... of You Dearie !🤗!
Thanks!
im about to pick up my first mercedes, its a 2022 gla 35.. great condition with everything, but the only thing im missing is the burmester, do u recommend me to upgrade into it after market? or if there are any alternative brand that will fit with better cost
Congrats on your purchase. If you can find a good deal for Burmeister upgrade, go for it. It will also up the resale value for the car, depending on how long you plan on keeping it. Otherwise, don’t bother upgrading at all. Unless you really can’t stand the sound. In which case don’t know what else can be installed after market. Good luck!
The sound of these cans is great ,you can really use them for mixing and get good results but the build quality is such a let down especially for the price the earpads, won't last long and the black plastic at the hinges cracks ,the cheaper HI-X15 are actually constructed better.
Good to know. I haven’t abused them yet to this point :)
@@deoazben just be patient you'll get there.
A nice review Dearie... The other reviewers R talking from a standpoint of a normal headphone buyers and users, that will not go into Sonarworks and many times even don't have the skill to properly EQ their gear themselves !🥴! So there You have the reason for them reviews being about the out of the box sound... There is something about You that made me subscribe... Maybe that tune in the background or maybe it's Your subtle smile and voice timbre... Anyway as did I hear You out on the quality of these Austrian Audio goodies, feel free to hop into my place, when You'll feel like taking a break from mixing & want to watch a few movies made out of game cinematics, that many love and memorize each scene of !🤗! Just felt like writing it down 4 U, so everything aside ever onwards and like MJ would say: Don't stop till You get enough Billie Jean... I mean Deo Azben !😇!
Thanks for the sweet comment :) Made my day. And thanks for the sub. PS I love MJ. 🙌 Miss him every day.
Hej... That world is so much out of tune even with Sonarworks, that We have to take matters into our own emojis and sweeten it up a little for each other, so there You have me and have a nice day every day Dearie !🤗!
@RedFightingMood Thanks. You too. 😉
Hmmm... And by the way... What are You listening to music on? So much differences in everyones hearing (unique ears + neuroplastic brain), but my curiosity remains, as You mentioned to the other soul that studio mixing/mastering & pleasure listening are 2 different things and therefore need different equipment !🧐! So what's Yours, when You don't conduct The Austrian Audio War against Your own creations Dearie ?🤗?
@RedFightingMood I listen to a lot of lofi chill, deep house and techno. Sometimes jazz.
austrian audio x65 or hifiman Ananda?
Never tried Ananda so can’t vouch for it.
It is great to hear that some people are not satisfied with the current tech landscape because rarely few people talks about it
this is helpful. however, cant call yourself an audiophile and want to connect your phone via bluetooth to listen to music., bandwidth is so limited, it would only use <50% of the burmester sound system
Thanks but I don’t connect my phone via Bluetooth to listen to music. Just for calls.
That’s exactly a review for car sound system I want! It’s a shame not many people talk the sound. How about the road noise of this car? It hardly appreciate classical music with noisy environment. Do you have any idea about if the balance of sound is comparable to a pair of studio monitors?
Yes, it’s pretty balanced. I don’t even use my studio monitors anymore. The road noise gets too much once you’re driving at higher speeds but that has to do with tire noise isolation which is not the best in this model. Plus, the engine. You’d need to pay much more for a higher model of Benz to get a quieter cabin. Thanks for your comment!
@@deoazbenThanks for reply. That’s good to know. Which studio monitor you are using? I am using iLoud MTM which sounds amazing balance and accurate after calibration. For road noise reduction, perhaps an electric car will do the trick, but I don’t like its high frequencies noise.
@Joseph-Lau I use Focal CMS 65. They don’t make them anymore but I like them. Honestly, no monitor is perfect. I use mine with Sonarworks. Check out my studio video that I did as well.
@@deoazben Yes, Focal is always good. Yep, no monitor is perfect. There are still some peaks in bass region after calibration. However, it is way better than my pervious Hi-Fi system which costed double.

Lucid’s surreal sound pro is amazing!
Totally! I picked up a Lucid Air loaner for couple days today and the sound system is stellar.
@msd5808. @deoazben Thanks for the video and conversation. There's something to be said about having reference headphones without having to rely on sonarworks. If you work on multiple places, they might not have sonarworks or you might be tracking or monitoring without a computer. From what I've listened in SoloCuffie channel where they compare original recordings to the headphones recorded thru a Neumann head, this AKG K371 is one of the most linear frequency response headphones I could find there. www.youtube.com/@SOLOCUFFIE. The trouble with the AKG K371 is that, in an incredible stupid business estrategy, in a product that is marketed for professional use and seems to be really good at that, AKG doesn't sell parts for it, not even earpads. You change the earpads you change the frequency response. They probably want you to buy it several times. Sorry, I'm kinda talking to myself trying to decide a purchase. I'm already hating that company and yet, I desire that headphone. Because is the headphone that didn't exist. It would be the one for so many people if they would sell parts. That's why I'm considering X65 for mixing with sonorworks and remain unsatisfied with the tracking and portability situation.
There is no way you prefer Surround over "Pure". In almost every (factory) high end soundsystem the "surround" option sounds like crap and has nothing to do with the original produced music.
You sound like you never sat in my car. Oh wait, you actually didn’t! 😂 Unless you’re in the producer’s studio, there’s no place where music will sound like the original. Just FYI. But thanks for commenting.
@@deoazben Oh wait, I actually did - obviously not in exactly your car but GLA 35 AMG with burmester so - same setup. Ofc you wont get close to a producer Studio (we are obvsly far away from a producer studio here), but you definitely make it even worse when you put on surround. And I'm Into Music as well just FYI ;)
@deruniversalindikator Bro, you’re clearly imposing your own preferences then 😂 I don’t have to like what you like. Get a life.

If studio headphones are designed to follow the Harman curve (like the AKG K371) do they negatively affect the ability to mix music? Does the increased bass from IEF neutral get in the way? I’ve always felt studio headphones sounded different (more analytic, colder perhaps, better for finding flaws than enjoying music as a consumer). But someone told me headphones should all sound the same (following the Harman target), even though that is a group preference that seems to chance with time. The Austrian Audio engineers formed their company after leaving AKG before the K361/K371 came out, suggesting there was disagreement with the direction of the company after Samsung bought them out. Also it would seem that it’s easier to boost the bass in headphones that are closed back rather than open back (without introducing lots of distortion), but that mixing audio works better in open backs.
From all studio headphones I personally tried, they all lacked bass out of the box and sounded too thin and some overly crispy. Haven’t tried the AKG ones. So even if they’re designed with the Harman curve in mind, you still need to use calibrating software. And even then, everyone’s ears are different. I’m honestly puzzled when producers and mixing engineers don’t use calibration with studio headphones. Same with studio monitors: you can’t just put them in a room, not do any calibration or acoustic treatment and start mixing. Even the most expensive monitors will sound bad in such environment. Also, no headphones will ever sound the same because they all have different materials, design, drivers and performance. I only use open back for production, mixing and mastering. Closed back is just for DJing or for listening to music. Thanks for the comment!
Just read some of the comments, to grow your chanel is very easy, why? most chanels audio are so dum they all do nearly the same thing, they refuse to understand people watching want infiormation, but they be talking with delivery all the important info. One thing that made this good, is because so sound like you are looking for a good headphone, which is most people are searching for. But unless you make a test, and compare some headphones and actually do a mix with divers headphones. Other big chanel and RUclips algo wont let you blow up. Its almost several months watching videos about headphones and speakers still not convinced because most of these people are either sponsored or they just dont want to be brutally honest about which headphones are honest. Without comparison, real world example where viewers can see clearly, its going to be the dlow growth on this platform. Just gave a free secre seems obvious, but many obvious sometimes gets missed by people.
Thanks!

Thank you. Same to you! 🎊❤️
Superb! Coming back for more over and over again! Reminds me of the Tokyo in the late 80s 🤩
Glad you love it! :)
As someone who owns this headphone they don't sound like $1000, they sound really good though. I also own $1000 & 2000 dollar headphones and everything in between all the way down to $20. They sound good though, very detailed even more so than a lot of headphones costing twice as much and the bass extension is fairly neutral, which I love. They don't have the biggest soundstage for the price but it's still decent. What I use them for is just fatigue free open back listening for day to day everything Including travel which is great cause the leak isnt the worst, pads r comfy, and the build quality is fantastic. Would pick these over any Bluetooth travel headphone any day for sure.
Awesome. Have you tried them with Sonarworks or any other calibrating software? With that, it’s another level. Thanks for the comment!
I havent used them w/ Sonarworks cause I never find the time to really use EQ when I plug so many diff things into my devices all the time, but I have used them w/ Sonarwork's Sound ID which is alright but not crazy groundbreaking. The "AI" Personalized EQ doesnt always get it right. @@deoazben
In my opinion unless you also focus on spatial audio queues(which should be done with proper speakers anyways), there is no substitute for in ear monitors. The smoothness and completeness of the frequency response cannot be rivaled by many over ears truly.

Great review. We just built and ordered a CLE 53 Coupe AMG. We are excited!
Hey, are you still using these over the 1990 pro? I have the 1990 pro but just find the clamp force too much even after owning them well over 1 year. Great sound! But these are more comfortable, better sound and just as reliable?
Yes. I sold my 1990 Pro. It takes getting used to but once you do, they’re much better.
@@deoazben thanks when you say they take some time to get used to… what do you mean? The sound or comfort?
@RiffsRhythm they’re super comfortable and much lighter than 1990 Pro. So that shouldn’t be an issue. The sound. Because it’s clearer. Every time you switch to a new pair, it needs time to get used to.
@@deoazben thanks so much :) i have tried the HD650 and HD600 and they are great too. This is on my short list to try
in an audio system that should be the top of the class, I would see at least 2 things: - 16 (at least) band equalizer - time alignment of each speaker (maybe factory presetted for sound focus on the driver seat, front, rear etc). this is the real game changer for the listening experience. The car's tweeter, woofer, and sub are located in different positions, and the sound they reproduce reaches the ear at different times.
Pretty sure that’s what you get if you pay well over $100K for a car. Not in my case. But yeah, like I mentioned in the video, there are tons of more higher end systems. ✌️
Fully agreed. Volvo Dynaudio was like that. GLA’S Burmester is belw any standard
Wonder why so many of us cannot hear the sub or any low frequencies at all then? Your Burmester must be different to my Burmester in the A class as I disagree with your review.
That’s cool. You don’t have to agree. Also, sub is usually not heard but felt by your body. Most people can’t hear it. Also, why should I say I don’t have any sub when I actually do? And I hear low mid frequencies pretty well in my car. :) Thanks for the comment but it makes little sense to me. No offense.
I have a 2024 E class SUV and The Burmester is incredible. In 2024, the phone teather is gone!!!
🤘🏻 and I wish I didn’t have the cable either. I guess my next vehicle won’t have it since everyone is ditching cable. Finally!
I would be interested to know if anyone 'adds' sound deadening material to the car doors? Something not talked about....
Pretty sure sound proofing can be done in a car. Probably not worth it though since it’s quite expensive. Better buy a better car with a higher-end sound system. :)
Sorry, Clarity provided by me, Sound deadening/proofing is very much worth it and probably sits under the heading of 'essential' for a majority of high-end car sytems. There is I think you agree, no consideration given by the car manufacturer and indeed their installer/workman when they install the door cards around your speakers. Yet if you get a third party installer to put in a your system of choice, sound deadening material will always be listed unless the customer chooses not to have it. I have a Mercedes SLC and that recently (2 weeks ago) had some retrofits installed. I discussed with the Technician about the topic and his response that there would be a significant improvement to the sound on this car (I've had sound deadening before when a Hertz Mille sytem was installed on another convertable). The reason installation not going ahead was in fact to the variations. Buying a better car, or a better system will still leave a vibrating vacuum between the door cards and the outer car skin. I would be curious if you have sought similar advice pertaining to your present system. @@deoazben
@seyley2901 Thanks. I didn’t even know you could sound proof your car. So I haven’t consulted anyone. But I also don’t think I’d go as far as spending extra money on this. I’d rather put them into my home studio. :) Thanks for the information!
Great video, Burmester + AMG is a great combination. My dream car is the S63 AMG e-performance, of course with the Burmester 4D surround sound system. I'm also curious how it compares to the 3D sound system in the previous generation (w222), I feel like aside from vibrating seats there isn't much difference but I'd still like to know. From my very limited experience, B&W sound systems in the new Volvos and BMWs are a bit more true to recording, though I prefer the immersion you get with the burmester.
Thanks! B&W is definitely an A class sound system. But I haven’t tested it extensively nor compared it to Burmeister 4D. I think these days every premium sound system comes with some form of surround features. It’s just the degree and the quality of those features that distinguish a high end system from a premium one. S63 is a sick car. I’m sure you’ll buy it one day 🤘🏻Once you do, leave a comment how you like the 4D in it. :)
@@deoazben thanks, I will!

I watched tons of reviews on headphones I wanted to buy but wasn't convinced. and then you said something casual not drawing attention to itself like " if you want the flattest headphones to use without any correction, go buy ndh30" and only then was I sure. so I did and I'm glad I did. flat as a ruler. point being sometimes few words can make a difference and waterfall of praise and eloquence cannot.
Glad it worked out! Enjoy them. They’re great.
im happy AKG is back, sad they got bought by samsung, but im happy the creators made a new company
Yes, and they’re making great products.
I like your taste and your video presentation style, and I do feel like we share a lot of preferences in common. I opted for a e53 coupe with the exact same color and trim, and I couldn't agree with you more on this "industrial, cold, and futuristic" feel.
Yes!!! 🖤🤘🏻😎🙌
Truly amazing review. And immediatly I subsrcibed as soon you mentioned Sonarworks. While I don't use it. I do use EQ settings posted by Oratory and many others. I use eq for every headphone I use as I do feel, even if they don't need it. EQ can make a great headphone into a god tier one. The HI-X65 in stock tuning is good but not great. There's a dip in the mids to high mids, a peak somewhere in the treble, and some roll off into the sub freqs. With some Eq though, that's easily fixed, and the sound quality for the price is god tier. I prefer how they sound over my Focal Clear OG. Considering those were $1000+ and the HI-X65 can be had for more than half the price and sounds better to my ear after slight eq is wild. Absolutely love them
Thanks! Yes, I’m totally with you on this. I still don’t know why more producers don’t use some sort of calibration or EQ with headphones! It makes them so much better.
I like your music. But the visuals are changing a bit too fast.
Thanks! Yeah, the visuals are not synced. It was a bit of a last resort since everything I tried didn’t work with the music. Stay tuned for more music vids with more focus on the visuals!
Hi Deo! Love your videos! I am buying a new pair of cans and it comes down to DT1990 Pro or the Hi-X65. That's how I found your great channel here. I really like your music! So, from your point of view, I should choose the Hi-X65, yes? And, do you also have a recommendation for closed back? Greetings from Spain!
Hello! Thanks for checking out my channel and music. 🙌 If you want more clarity and instrument separation, I’d recommend X65. DT1990 Pro are great, and I used them for a few years but now there are better and cheaper alternatives. I don’t really use closed back cans unless I’m DJing. So can’t really vouch for anything but if you go with Austrian Audio all the way, I think you’ll have a great set of headphones. :) Just one thing-I use all my headphones with Sonarworks. If you have the budget, I highly recommend getting it and using all headphones with it. It’s like acoustic treatment for your headphones basically. Otherwise, it’s like getting great studio monitors and using them in an untreated room.
@@deoazben Thank you for your quick and helpful reply. Yes, Sonarworks is at the top of my list - just wish they would partner with more makers of DSP powered interfaces (I think it is currently only Merging Technologies, and the new Neumann MT-48 unfortunately dropped this plugin, perhaps because they make their own headphones and DSP powered monitors?). Speaking of Neumann, I think you favorably mentioned the NDH 30 in another video - do you still use them? How do they compare to the Hi-X65? Greetings!
Yes, NDH 30 are great (better than DT1990 Pro). But X65 are the best out of the three. The detail I hear in X65s is another level. If you are not going to get Sonarworks, then NDH 30 are a decent middle ground. Good luck with the purchase! :)
@@deoazben Thank you for your superb advice! Looking forward to more excellent music from you!

Excellent and extremely perfect!
Awesome. Thanks!
Really good Remix;) can you also upload a version with the pitch from the original song? :D
Thanks. The remix was meant to be with the pitched down vocal. ✌️
Thanks for the review. I wanna say I bought the headphones and a E1da dac/amp and sonarworks and it's amazing...
Glad to hear that! Enjoy!
