I thought furiosa was awful personally. Anya taylor joy was the worst possible casting imo
100% disagree
Great video! Although I did not fully agree with your placement of Trap. I think the acting is a bit goofy and not realistic at all. The rest of the list was pretty good. My top 5 movies of 2024 are: (I didn't watch that many) 1. Dune part 2 (9/10) 2. Furiosa: A mad max saga (8/10) 3. Nosferatu (7/10) 4. Mads (6.5/10) *this is a horror movie but with a very interesting take. (literally because the whole movie is one take) It's best to go in without any expectations and it's not really scary 5. Roadhouse (6/10) I also saw transformers one which dissapointed me because I didn't really like the story and the way it looked. Also, if I'd seen the substance it would probably be up there but I still have to watch it.
Thank you! Love the goofiness of trap though. Agree on transformers
And now we need kingdom! 🤣
it was ok, not as great as this guy says.
Every time you cut to him winning the Oscar.. 😂😂😂😂 Honeymoon in Vegas is still my fave underrated Cage movie. Face Off and The Rock are also a good time. I haven't seen Matchstick Men or The Weather Man in years but I remember really liking both. Been a fan of his since the 90s for all the right and/or wrong reasons 😂
"Zira and Cornelius are... married?" You clearly missed the line in the first movie where Zira introduces him as her fiancée.
Ngl thought his most famous moment was ghost rider
The original film is better than all the reboots. The apes in the newest reboots have no range in their acting or emotion. Ceasar is just mad or angry and puts on a scowl like Ronda Rousey used to make. You'd figure with the aid of CGI that they would make it easier for the apes to show a range of emotion instead of being all one-note characters. There isn't any depth to the ape characters, or humans for that matter. It is just action scenes.
You forgot the television films: "Back to the Planet of the Apes" "Forgotten City of the Planet of the Apes" "Treachery and Greed on the Planet of the Apes" "Life, Liberty and Pursuit on the Planet of the Apes" "Farewell to the Planet of the Apes" They were combined from "The Planet of the Apes" television series from 1974 that had 14 episodes. There was also the animated series from 1975 that was titled "Return to the Planet of the Apes" that had 13 episodes.
i always preffered the og prosthetics cuz it made them look like theyre evolved but recognisable like theyve moved forward in their evoloution making it more believable that it was thought it was another planet
Greatest Actor of All Time!!!
You should not watch the prequel plan of the apes if you have not seen the sequel trilogy from the 80s.
I wonder if they're gonna remake the sequel. Trilogy, since the prell Trilogy was made in modern times with better technology.
😂😂😂😂
You remind me of another move reviewer the Flick Pick aka John Flickinger. You both are entertaining and love good movies. Haha
Dude I love your reviews. Just saw the planet of the apes series review and now this one. The sincere love for the art mixed with the light hearted comedy sketches in between. Keep it up. I never thought that there was a message in the first Godzilla movie. But it does makes sense. Also I agree that these movies very much know what they're giving the audience, so they should completely go in that direction instead of having the humans behave like something serious is happening. You should also see the newer Godzilla zero. I think it's the best Godzilla movie. And a good movie in general.
Time Travel gives me a headache
?
He's a shit actor... whoever made this video is on class A
Where do you rank kingdom? 👀
In the Original Movies it's hinted at that the Space craft is thrown forward in time due to some kind of Cosmic Storm. Thus explaining how the Apes go backwards in time in the third movie as they were going the opposite direction in Taylor's Spacecraft. This is used in a somewhat forgotten form of film making called “Show don't tell" you as the viewer are left to figure it out. You see film makers back then unlike most today didn't believe that their viewers were idiots and had to have everything spelled out for them. Tim Burtons Ape movie gets a lot of undeserved hate it's only real problem is the weak third act. The actors blew it out of the park, Tim Roth was especially frightening as a Chimp and highlights a often ignored aspect of Chimp behavior AKA they're all psychotic. But the they definitely dropped the ball with the script in the third act. As for which movie is best the original four movies are definitely at the front with the new ones sprinkled in. Only Battle and Burtons movie are bad parsay, with Battle being utter garbage in my opinion. Lastly young people need to get over this obsession with CGI, it's dumbing you down. While the motion capture is great in the new trilogy Practical effects are always the way to go. For the simple reason they hold up with time. Anyway good video 👍
the cut of him winding the musical box to him going on stage for the award made me lose my shit lmao
I think youre missing a couple of the old Ape movies. I believe there were five in total. And one of them is very close to War if memory serves
I think the Monsterverse is reminiscent of the Heisei era of Godzilla films: just goofy, wacky fun.
A lot of people are gonna disagree with me but I’ve never liked the Monsterverse Godzilla design and personally I don’t see why people like it so much. Thick godzilla can be done right but I think giving him a silly squared chin takes away from it a little. Godzilla to me should be like a cool dad when In reality he’s like a fat goofy uncle, might not make sense to others but I said what I said.
I hate to be that guy but I’m sorry, when it comes to 2014 I got to ask “did we watch the same movie?...” look I understand why you like it but genuinely besides Cranston I didn’t attached to any of the other characters, I just feel like none of the actors gave a good enough performance compared to Cranston and even putting that aside I don’t think the writing is not as good as you say, I genuinely can’t name one character who has a character Arc or any more then 3 traits they have, to me the humans here are just vessels to view the size and Spectacle of the monsters because most of them are static from beginning to end, I still think it’s a decent spectacle movie but I’m genuinely upset because I genuinely want to see the Masterpiece you say 2014 is. (I do agree with everything you said about Godzilla in the 2014 film, him not showing up all the one gives him a Godlike nature and I love it, and I appreciate the dark tone) With Kong it’s the opposite, I really like the combination of the a Fantasy island mixed with the 70s Apocalypse Now ascetic, and for me personally I don’t think it’s supposed to have romanticism like Peter Jackson’s King Kong, this movie wants to do something new with Kong because there have been multiple retellings of the original story and non of them (besides the Toho ones) try and branch off from this formula, so instead of seeing Kong fall in love with Mason (Brie Larson) we see him get attached to her and Conrad platonically (yes it’s fine to favor something more traditional but I’m just saying it wasn’t what the MV is trying to do) and as for the theme this movie is trying to show Man’s Ego of being to dominate species through Packard, the best Human villain in the MV, and also showing how we don’t have to do that because we can learn to exist with each other (which is another of the occurring themes of the MV as well) through Mason, Hank, and Conrad. For KOTM I’m glad you at least give Mark some credit, I think he’s character arc is great (it’s undone in GvK unfortunately but yeah) I like how it handles Marks hate to Godzilla but learns that the best way to heal from his trauma is to make peace with the demons who created them, I don’t think this has the best writing but it’s probably one of the best in the MV and it does have the aesthetic I love the most from Godzilla (60s and Heisei) though it’s brought down by atrocious dialogue but I can ignore that, the other characters weren’t terrible and some of them I liked, I do think they could’ve made the movie feel more apocalyptic by putting more focus on the destruction and cause of the awakening but overall this is the best MV movie in my personal opinion. I can completely understand your feelings on GvK, while I don’t hate the movie I do think it’s the worst one in the MV, it just feels like a pointless middle chapter in Kongs story compared to Skull island and The new empire, I didn’t care for any of the human characters besides Jia (and Bernie, his character my guilty pleasure) the action was great though. GxK for me fixes a lot of problems I had with GvK and I actually really like the Human characters in this one (specifically Trapper and Bernie) this one is the perfect melding between 70s Showa and Millennium, Skar King is the second best villain right behind Ghidorah, but yeah this does tell a pretty decent story about oppression and slavery and to stand up, this movie has a lot of problems (like Skar King’s presence not being completely dangerous, and it just feels like Kong and Godzilla got overpowered to defeat him) but I still do think this is a fun movie with a pretty solid message.
I agree. The tone for the 2014 film was peak
Killing off Bryan Cranston was the biggest mistake made in the 1st film
Caesar, one of the best characters of all time? 😅😅 wow you haven't watched anough cinema. Best courtroom scene next to a animated bee movie? Again watch more movies.....its not even funny
lol it seems like you don’t really understand the monsterverse
I disagree with you on most points given. For starters, this isn't Cloverfield, if that's what your looking for then go watch that series. Secondly, godzilla was mediocre. The brightness was atrocious in that movie, which gives off the mystery you seem to be pointing out. Lastly, the other films were Kaiju vs. Kaiju flicks, so they can be kinda stupid and fun. I do agree on one thing though, King of the Monsters isn't that great.
What do you mean by this isn't Cloverfield? Why can't Godzilla have the same tone as another movie? Lol
I was going to watch the video all the way, but lost me at “I loved the Godzilla movie with barely any Godzilla in it, and the most pointless human subplot of all time.” DRC on the spot.
also one wasted extremely talented actor in Bryan Cranston who saved the first act single-handedly, and the two talented (I am not sure about Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but he would not have ended in this project, if he was not; Elizabeth Olsen is an extremely talented actress, who performed much better even in Marvel movies, even in the ones that are considered to be among the worst) actors that somehow lost all the ability to act. Which is baffling to me to this day.
Seeing the movie at that time made it very impactful. The CGI looked so real. I don't think we needed Godzilla more than they were in that movie.
Godzilla 2014 agree was the best one by far. Skull Island agree movie was dull asf and pointless. KOTM disagree the movie was great. Though I do agree they kept cutting away to that annoying guy with glasses making goofy comments every 5 seconds which was a hindrance to the movie. G v K agree the characters were lame asf but the fight scenes were great so disagree with your comment on that G x K agree they over did it a bit and left nothing to mystery. But still a fun movie to watch but as you say can’t take it as seriously as 2014.
i think you should just change your channel name to confused
YOOOO HES BACKKK!!! I live in Europe so I unforunately can't buy your merch but non the less it's good to see you making videos again.
1:03 I disagree. Gojira 1954 gave us way better characters, godzilla felt like a character and has more of a presence in the movie and they don't tease you throughout the movie like this movie did to build tension. It just feels lazy just to cutaway as soon as the action starts 1:12 you can have two different tones and godzilla still works. It's been proven since the showa era 4:08 that doesn't change anything. If you're gonna kill an important character then you better kill off another character. Cause Ford and his boring family plot armor is so thick it's hilarious 5:28 na succeeded 5:35 you do know these are two different movies. One is a remake of a classic movie and the other is a kaiju movie that's establishing king kong in this universe. 8:28 I can see fine. Ghidorah storm is terraforming the earth so it's gonna get crazy. Plus we got to see Ghidorah mothra and rodan along with godzilla together. That's awesome 8:40 and that's what people want. 9:13 well you picked the wrong franchise cause people don't come to see the innocent lives being lost they came for the monsters 9:40 welcome to a godzilla series where the tone shifts all the time. 12:10 something tells me you hate having fun
Lol I don’t know how I got notifications for this channel but I agree with this commwbt
@@Looneyboy 😂 Thanks 👍🏿👍🏿
Sorry but this video is actually popular opinion. Seems you’re a pretty die hard Godzilla fan but these movies are pretty bad. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind the monster verse but i completely understand peoples frustrations with it. Very lazily written
Yeah its just another person shitting on the mv and doesn't understand Godzilla and knows nothing about the Godzilla series at lest he didn't compare it to Minus 1
@@DimensionK58 very true
The original movie with Charlton Heston is 1000 times better than the recent ape franchise, even with all the fancy CGI stuff. It's so tedious to have to look at Caesar's angry scowl all the time. I'm not buying the dumb look on his face and it is not entertaining. The original had an intelligent script - horror, shock, humor and a great plot that made sense. It is the all-time champ and won't be dethroned.
Nic is one of a kind indeed!!
you should make vids again - you have a lot of talent
HUH, correct me if i'm wrong, but the ending of the reboot of the Planet of the apes is not the ape that went back to the future first, but Mark went further into time and the apes had the same revolution as ours.
And then there’s kingdom
When kornelios and ziras child born they named him milo. But who changed the name to ceaser
It was the circus owner. He changed it. Hes the one whom was entrusted the baby and he raised him.
You should watch the 14 episode TV show.
The Chimpanzee baby is Milo, later Milo renames himself to Caesar.
Aep
The newer ones are exciting and enjoyable. But shallow. There isn't anything deep about them. The original Planet of the Apes always had a subtext to race wars and current events of the time. Watch the extra features on DVD and Blueray of specials that were filmed in the 70's hosted by the actor who played Cornelius/Caesar. I will point to one specific point in Conquest. The undertones were far from subtle in that one. Caesar is speaking with the black guy about how he of all people should understand their plight. I don't know how anyone could not see the parallel. In Beneath the Planet of the Apes you see a reference to the Vietnam war where the General and his army come across protestors wanting to end the war. The original work in book form is nothing like the movies. Apes flying in space. Apes in suits and ties. Skyscrapers. It was a remark about the political atmosphere in (France?) But even in this form it was political. The movies took it a step further. The very first draft was written by Rod Serling, the creator of the Twilight Zone, also a series with political undertones and events of the time. When Planet of the Apes was released in the 60's it was held in high regard because people recognized the parallel between the apes and African-Americans. The original shows were obviously political commentary paralleling the time in which they were filmed. They were more than simply at the time flashy Sci fi movies; they were mirrors. Each show followed the USA in particular from the Stokes monkey trials AKA evolution in POTA. Feared nuclear war with Russia BTPOTA. Fear of the government and ruthless politicians EFTPOTA. The class system and enslavement of minorities aka blacks and the resultant revolution COTPOTA. And finally BFTPOTA which had the humans trying one last shot to fight the future in which apes and humans lived together in peace.
17:08 *4 bangers in a row
Dammm the first one is now the remake of the latest one kingdom of the planet of apes
Wow you really know how to make a person hate your face so much they stop watching your video altogether. And yeah, go watch the originals kid.
Not a trilogy anymore
