iRide - S1 Ep 6 (Feb 2019)
We are pleased to finally present the Feb / March edition of iRide.
With the launch of the amazingly different Yamaha Niken late in 2018 we thought it would a great opportunity to compare this bike to the other 3 wheelers on the market.
We did get a bit sidetracked with Sidecars and will come back to do more on this later in the year.
We ride the CanAM spider and talk to some CanAm owners about their 3 wheeled experience.
Thanks to Josh at the Ginja Ninja in Canungra for allowing us to use their cafe for the show.

Thanks to Team Moto at Enogerra for the loan of the Niken and the CanAm.

Definitely a legend mate Good on ya
Used to root for the Aussi trio! Gardner, Beattie and Doohan!
Stylish, smooth always immaculately presented. Just a great rider and a damn nice fella....😁
I've just stumbled across this 'chat' I used to watch Daryll in the 500 GP's but never knew anything about him. What a great guy. Fantastic story and such a modest and honest view on his life. 🙌🙌 Thanks 👍👍
Humble bloke and I'm old enough to remember how good he was
Was always a fan of Darryl. Hard charger.
Met Daz briefly when he came to the Classic races at Pukekohe with Kev Swantz. What a humble, gentleman. A real ACE. Flies under the radar, but an absolute credit to motorcycle racing and Aus.
It’s great to listen to Daryl talk about his career. He was a big part of the success of Grand Prix Racing in the 1990’s. A real talent and a wonderful person!
Daryl has admitted he should have stayed with Honda. This issue was he finished 3rd and Honda wanted him in World Super bikes. Daryl didn't want this and took up an offer from Yamaha. He never felt comfortable on the bike. the injury didn't help. Cadalora was quite good and got 2 wins and second in the championship on the same bike. The Roberts team was quite complicated in that era. I think Beattie was offered the Honda V twin in the late 90's, however declined.
Honda treated Darryl like shit. When Ito was failing in the national championship the swapped Darryl with Ito because Japan championship was more important. Honda fucked him for championship racing. At the same time and reason they did that was because his 8hr races were legendary.
@@StefanMedici Honda did the same to one or two other riders. Doohan may have had some more competition had things been a little different. Not saying he's not great though.
What a nice bloke, and very modest, great interview!
Excellent interview from a man that rubbed shoulders with the best....
awesome dazza!!!
Inspirational stuff.Wayne Rainey would love this.Well done and love your life as you do.Thnx
Hello from the States! Great interview. Great story about winning the RM50. We had the JR50 state side. Still a 2 stroke. It was the only good racing dirt bike in the states at the time I think(‘79/80). I had an Italjet 50 in ‘79. Light years ahead of most bikes we had stateside at the time. Anyways- Darryl came up to 500 GP fast and swam with the Sharks. Was a great racer. Loved watching him mix it up. He called the 500’s GP gutless! SMH…. And the toe truck crack, priceless! Thanks for sharing. Miss those days. Darryl seems like a great guy. Keep it real.
Nul, pas d'image ☝️🤔😂😂😂🇮🇲💫🙋
very modest. good thing you're not selling yourself mate, because you are a deadset legend and you'd sell yourself way too cheaply. with your quality you'd excel today, no worries
Awesome work
For me, he’s up there as one of Australia’s greatest sportsmen. An absolute legend and so humble. Very few people get to reach such a level of success in the field they choose. 🤘
What ripper of a documentary bring on more
Love this guy, he may not think he is a legend but he IS, should have a corner named after him on the Island too.
Miller gets a corner for 4th and 5th in the championship while the team mate gets first and second. Beattie gets nothing for a 3rd behind Swantz and Rainy and ahead of Doohan, then 2 years later a 2nd behind Doohan.
totally agree with you, a Legend and really the nicest bloke, nothing against Miller but Beattie gets nothing makes no sense@@stevegraham3817
Modest guy, top bloke
I used to race against him at Tivolli And beat him regularly
Beatti certainly never reached his true potential. At the time I think he was a race winner but as for a 500cc champion I'm not sure but who knows. One thing for sure he was fast. Nice bloke and far too modest for his own good.
Beattie was a cool dude great rider too. Always had the speed just couldn't put all the together. But he won Japan n Germany. But that truck behind him w the motocross bikes n stuff in it, is fkng sick !!
Great bloke!
Daryls a legend ,and I like his commentary work when the GP bikes are racing 👍🇦🇺
Agro’s cartoon connection is the best! Daryl is definitely a MotoGP legend.
He never raced in MotoGP.
So good, what a very deturmand young man, well done ,Colin. 👍
I enjoyed very much. Beattie has been one of the most appreciated pilot during the 90's in Europe. Greetings from Spain
Fantastic system you designed. Can you tell me what make and model of actuator you used?
Nah Daryl , legend is correct . Was a pleasure to watch you race GP
Legend mate, good on you!
I could never understand why Honda had him racing the All-Japan 500 series then a single full year in World 500cc GP where he came 3rd, then let him go.
Terrific interview with an absolute champion
Agree
Awesome talent - but even better person.
Seems like yesterday, where did the time go.kevin McGhee, Bettie, the fab go-show. Against Lawson,Rainey, and always putting it on the line Kevin Swantz.
Thanks for the video. I remember racing Darryl at Lakeside back when he was an up coming (14yr old??) Dad sponsored racer on a TZ350. And practicing with he and Mick Doohan at Surfers raceway when Mick was in 250 proddies. Everyone knew these 2 were bound for stardom, the talent is obvious. Shame that Darryl (and Mick) was injured out at the top of his game.
Did Honda fired Daryl because they knew he could win with Doohan ? It was very strange...
determinação e tudo
Brilliant. Well done.
Wow! I know James doesn't see himself as an inspiration, but his story has inspired me just by watching this short video. What a legend! Thanks for sharing his story! :-)
sending you lots of power all the way from india. such a great guy.
As someone that has been riding motor cycles of all kinds for 68 years I feel I am entitled to give an opinion, to say you have ridden a Spyder does not mean you can ride a Spyder , takes time to adjust but when you do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
22934760 fair point. I think Steve was mainly commenting about the physics of motorcycling being absent on the CanAm.
Rode a Vincent HRD never a Moto Guzzi but would imagine there would be significant physical differences
You're an inspiration, James! With the right marketing I'm sure you'll sell quite a few of these.
dont stop what you guys are doing {which is a great job!!!} you are the way of the future! there are those of us out there that can no longer tolerate free to air tv & the assault on our intelligence. There isnt anything " real" about reality tv & thats where iRide & big bike adventures steps in,its real, interesting & not thinly veiled advertisement.Content like iRide proves there is an untapped part of society out there that are passionate about their bikes/riding & lifestyle. If i cant be out there riding i will be sitting back with a cold beer watching you guys, keep up the good work & know all your hard work is appreciated!!!!
Thanks Matt, your kind words are much appreciated.
Another great show. Terrific to see the interviews. Fantastic to see people with issues that get back onto something they enjoy. I do like the honest assessments of the alternate rides by you Steve. Keep up the good work Guys/Gals 👍😁
Thanks Robert
very enjoyable. Great work iRide.
