Flute #7 B flat THUMB key to the rescue!! WATCH THIS!!!!
So glad you enjoyed it!
It’s cool the way you slam the keys down. It’s like little champagne corks popping off with each (descending) note!
Thank you! It's fun learning how to play the ocarina :)
Absolutely lovely, love to hear it! ❤
Thanks!!!!!! I'm learning to play the ocarina now :)✌
You’re really good at the flute like dang 💯💯
I am in the process of not pressing the pinky finger where ever I can. I developed arthrosis in that finger, and I will use that finger only for sound, never for balance. And so, I figured it's not needed for a F, but it is needed for a E. So, the only times now I will use it is for E and Eb (and the low register notes).
Nice
When she said open up everything, I just knew it was going to be low notes. Its the only way to get those out without accidentally going up an octave. I got sick for 3 days and had to miss school and my band director found out I was basically carrying the flutes through the low note section. What sucks is that he never explained to them how to do it and I couldn't put it into words at the time. Sicilienne would be beautiful here
I agree---Sicillienne would be perfect! Thank you for watching! I'll look for a field of sunflowers next for yellow---when they are in bloom, lol. Band teachers almost never know how to really help the flutes! They are just happy when the students can make a sound :0.
How did the algorithm know I love the flute and used to play. Weird but I love it❤❤❤❤
I think good karma has a way to circle back to find us. I also "used" to play the flute, until the flute found me again :)
Good job! And what great camera work ; )
haha--Thank you! This is just to have a little fun while I am out and about :)
Absolutely stunning scenery! Loved the background and history of the location as well as the richness of the long tones! :)))
Where can I find the book?
You can find it at fluteworld.com www.fluteworld.com/product/alternative-fingerings-for-the-flute-2nd-edition/ Have fun with it!!
Why is it hard for me to play f
Yeah---the flute is a challenging beast, since it is very different from all the other wind instruments! We flute players have all sorts of tips and tricks that are easy to find on RUclips. Good luck :)
Hi Laura. So glad this little trick will help you! I was just doing this today at a flute sectional with high school students! If you know you are "out of tune", and you don't know if you are sharp our flat---don't be afraid to adjust. You have a 50-50 chance. Pick one. If that doesn't work, adjust your headjoint the opposite way ,and you're golden. I've spoken to a lot of ladies who have taken a Hiatus. I did the same thing :0. You'll find you haven't stopped learning, and will play with more maturity! My hubby also plays the flute for fun--it's a great gig. Enjoy!!
After an incredibly long hiatus, I’ve begun to play again. I got a fancy tuner app for my phone and - quelle horror! - I’m playing real sharp. I’d actually forgotten that I need to pull the head joint out a bit, but my cellist husband suggested it. Face palm. 😮. Of course. Love this tip for playing with others, too. I’ll be playing with bells at my church and those are tuned up, so I need to match them. Now I’ve got a quick way to check! Thanks😊
Thank you so much!
You are very welcome!!!! Sorry---didn't see your comment until now :-0
@@flutelady101 no worries. :)
Can you please make a video about triplets in a scale ascending descending? 😊
With the recorder
@@cassydebijl5869 Hi Cassy! I have a confession---I haven't practiced my recorder at all lately, and am pretty rusty! The flute is really my "big bad instrument" that I practice..😬
Really liked it! keep going!
Hi Katherina--thank you for your encouragement! I'll try to post more duets and trios in the future :) This piece was my first recorded trio to try to put together. Was a fun project!
Thank you so much! Was fun :)
Two set violin be like😂
Super helpful!
Good to hear! Enjoy the freedom to free yourself up from those fingering charts :)
That was fun!
Thank you, my dear!!! xoxo
I stumbled across this video and was not disappointed. The amount of time it took me to actually hold a note longer than i normally do after just watching this video was amazing! It was a massive help, thank you so much!
You are very welcome! Thank you for your kind words.... I remember when my teacher gave me a lesson on this many years ago, and it really made sense! Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering how you stumbled on my video? I am pretty hidden, I think, as I'm not doing anything fancy to tweak the viewing algorithms! I'm just happy to help fellow musicians :).
it was one of the first videos that came up when searching for tips on holding notes and i believe it was the most effective one
@@elmoy8221 Very cool. Thanks!
Same here
If you are FLAT---push in your head-joint to make your instrument shorter. This raises the pitch. If you are SHARP---pull out your head-joint to make your instrument longer. This lowers the pitch.
Aint no way she manage to play it on the hello kitty piano
Hi! I didn't think of that, but it's a good idea..... I should also make it clear that other musicians who play the trumpet/clarinet and saxophone can hold their notes longer because ALL their air goes into their instruments. Flute players just have to deal with losing about half their air into space. :0. Thank you for watching and your comment. I really appreciate it!
make that video :)
how about seeing how long you can hold your breath.. 2 maybe 3 minutes. well... done by the way
The thing is, you're not holding your breath, you're blowing air out. (Yes, I know I said this 1 year later I just had to say something)
Thanks, Mrs, Hicks. Super useful! I've been taught to use the alternate fingering you depicted for C sharp all the time (whenever possible), in order to make C sharp a little less sharp. Am I wrong in this?
Hi! Thanks for watching the video ;) You are NOT wrong at all using your "other" C way---At the end of the day, all that matters is that it works for you AND your C is all the better for it!
@@flutelady101 Thanks for taking away my worry about that. You are so nice in answering questions!
@@Cubasenet33 Happy to help! You can also reach out to me on Lessonface.com for more "flute-talk" I'm Kate Hicks there, lol. Love that we are playing our flutes!!!!!
Hey Katie it is Jack and Hayden
Hello there, boys!!!! How are you?? Miss you, but I see you are having a wonderful time living near the beach :) Do you like your new school and new friends??
Your lessons are invaluable. Thank you so much. I'm watching them all before even touching my flute.
Hi there----you are very welcome! Let me know anytime if you have any particular questions, or if there's a certain lesson you would like me to post. I'm happy to help :)
Thanks for your videos. This is remarkably similar to the saxophone, but the B and Bb (bis) keys are on the front of the horn, and the C key is the A key on its own.
Book ordered! Thank you, Kate for another fun lesson with flute! 😊
You're welcome, Christina!!! :)
I wanted to ask you about the B flat! Thank you 😊
Hi Christina! For you, it's still pinch-pinch and a pinky! I teach students the thumb key when they spend time on the "original" way because there's the bad habit of people ALWAYS putting their thumb on the bflat thumb key on all other notes, instead of the big "regular" thumb key.... :0
You are sooooo great how you teach music 😀
Can you maybe make a short version of (syrinx) on the soprano recorder with (sheet music ) what a beautiful song and you played it so beautiful on the flute 😀
Hi Cassy! There's already a couple of RUclips videos of this you can watch. They are done on an alto recorder. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/qSpv3TlutLY/видео.html
Thank you very much great video your the best😀 That you want to teach it
Hi Cassy! I'll get a silent night recorder song soon :) Thanks!
The stars are now shining brighter with you in Heaven. Rest in peace, my sweet cousin.
Can you please make a video about vibrato with the soprano recorder on a (g major scale ) and a (D harmonic scale) ?
Hi Cassy---I'll be honest. I am sooo much more comfortable teaching vibrato on the flute! The recorder, for me, is for fun and to teach kids. I haven't really mastered or tried vibrato on the soprano recorder :0 It's a little different on the recorder, and I haven't spent time yet to figure it out, since I haven't performed anything on recorder that requires vibrato. Looks like it's on my list!
Hi Cassy---I'll try to post something tomorrow :) Thanks for being patient!!
You are a amazing teacher how you explain it😀
Thank you Cassy! I appreciate your comments ;) I hope you are enjoying your flute playing!
Then i can learn it easier from you by example
It would be awesome if you can make a video about vibrato with the soprano recorder like this video with the flute😀
AMAZING 😀
I like the dog i have also a dog he is 15 years old🐾🐾🐾

Thank you, Cassy! I deleted the minor scales video and will redo it!!!! thank you for your support :)
Amazing how you explain it 😁
I checked some video's of you and i think you are a great flute player/ teacher
Hi Cassy. THANK YOU so much :). I love to reach out to other musicians!
@@flutelady101 i think you can play anything 😁
Hi can you PLEASE make a lesson about (crescendo diminuendo) on the SOPRANO recorder with vibrato and differents scales😀
I confess, I am a MUCH better flute player than a recorder player :0. I can do a flute lesson with crescendo/diminuendo and scales.... would that work for you?
@@flutelady101 Yes thats great
When is it about ready the excercise?😀
@@cassydebijl5869 Hi Cassy. I can put in another lesson this week---about scales. What in particular do you want to learn?
