oil pressure!
After tearing up 2 oil pans by simply driving on public roads, I decided that 2-1/4" of clearance under the pan is probably not enough and set about building and installing a dry sump. This little ditty is "first oil pressure". w00t!

Turns out ol' Colin knew a thing or two. Seriously man..
Does the targa mechanism creak at all when driving?
It certainly can! I lubricated the rubber seals and gaskets with Krytox GPL205, which cured the squeaks. It's expensive but a little bit goes a very long way.

Your clutch problem is probably down to the CDV ( clutch delay valve ) it delays engagement of the clutch on gear changes
Previous owner removed that.
Your clutch engaging problem is a common issue caused by the CDV ( clutch delay valve )
Previous owner removed that.
I'm thinking mine need replaced. Was there any issue closing the top before replacing? My passenger side has issue raising out so I have to help it. Hydraulic level seems fine and fb group is telling me it's the strut.
I had, and have, no issues with top operation. (Knock wood!) From your description I would also suspect the hydraulic strut that performs the lifting function on that side.
@@wdbaseley7585 okay. Well I've looked up the strut so thanks for the part #! $80. I just called BMW and they want $600 to do the job! No way... I'm going to build me a compressor tool and figure it out myself
Is there a repair manual for this somewhere?
Love the turbo headlights
Freshly washed and shiny ^_^
And also sold! It was an awesome thing but not really a good fit for our location or lifestyle. bringatrailer.com/listing/2015-mercedes-benz-s65-amg-coupe-2/

thanks you for video. my e93 has same symptoms. I’d like to know the exchanged roof strut product name or part number.
I bought genuine BMW stuff. I'm putting the part numbers in the video description so that other folks might find them too.
Man, I have an 1980 caterham 7. 1.6 ford crossflow holbay head 120 hp with weber carburator. It sounds exactly like yours!
Nice video, looks familiar, where are you located?
The video starts in a small village known locally as Landis Store.
Thanks

definitely have to get the Large chassis if I ever build one someday
My car is an "S3" meaning Series 3. (It is also old enough to still be "Imperial" which means most of it was measured in inches; later models were "Metric".) The larger chassis is called the "SV".
Had a look at the targa when considering a 996 - love the targa glass feature which really makes the car extremely practical and special. Decided against it because of the additional bracing and weight to support the glass mechanism. Also the guide rails and motor do fail after a while. Lovely car though hope you enjoy!
Yep, the targa mechanism adds some weight and complexity. About equal to the cabrio in that regard. The upside is that the targa adds practicality, whereas the cabrio just adds canvas! ;-) My 2002 targa is fully functional, after 21 years. The seals and sealing materials are still supple and pliant. Guide rails look virtually untouched if you ignore the residue from the crappy spray-on 'white grease' some dorkus used in the past.
@@wdb047can’t argue with the practicality argument :) lovely car and well done
You’re right - Dzus fasteners were invented for aircraft in the 1930s. Such a cleaver design that works very well! Great walk-around video of your beautiful ‘seven!
Very nice. Sweet simplicity. Must be pure joy to drive.
Thanks. Yes it is.
Subscribed! Thank you for the great review - I enjoy my 2002 targa for many of the same reasons you do and have decided to keep it long-term. A quality, usable classic I can work on myself. Truly a unicorn 911, the 996 targa was strictly 2-wheel drive. All 997 targas were 4-wheel drive. Cheers,
Great POV video. Would you mind sharing with us your camera and audio setup?
I'm no professional! It's just a GoPro Hero 9 clamped to the rollbar. I may have had foam over the mikes to reduce wind noise, but I don't think so.
I thought perhaps you were using a motorized gymbal for the panning effect. I'm just looking at possible options for my own scratch built Locost.
@@DrewLocost that's a Hero 9 feature that can be turned on or off. I've tried videos with and without it.

I had the same problem after installing a brand new unit. Contacted Bosch tech support and was told this is due to the unit being set to run in series with additional heaters. The solution support provided was to power off the unit, wait 30 seconds and then power the heater back on. This allows the valve to open completely. Once powered back on unplug the 8 pin cable on top of the water valve with engine and temp sensor (white thing 😀) . This fixed my problem and haven't had the pulsating noise since. Good luck
Yep. Unplug the connector to the motor that's going haywire. I think mine finally burned up and stopped making the noise. My heater is still working fine all these years later and I don't worry about it anymore. But wow, thanks for the flashback. :-)
Mine is doing this as well. Was there a solution?
Yes, unplugging it was an option for me as well. However since I was looking at a brand new unit under warranty I decided to try and correct it. It didn't last. The sound my wife calls "the cellar alarm" started happening again abouit a year later.
Up date, called Bosch tech support,he had me umplug the white connector to the valve, it is only necessary to have that working when running multiple units .Obviously it is a flaw they missed on residential single units,it did fix the problem and works fine,
Same. They also sent me a bulletin showing how to calibrate the valve before i unplugged the valve. I assume its to open the valve enough to allow a certain GPM through, then you disable it.
Where can I find the white connector to the valve so I can stop my water heater from crying?
I have same unit,4 years old making same sound, when i restart it quits, thank you for info, ill see about ordering that part,
Any more insights? Got the same problem, which goes away when turning the unit off and the back on. No idea what causes this.
Technically, the motor is seeking its 'home' position and can't find it so it keeps trying. What triggers the motor to do that is a mystery to me. My unit was brand new and Bosch sent me a replacement motor. That motor now does the same thing as the original, but only once in a great while. I've been told the motor can be unplugged altogether with little or no change in function but haven't researched that fully.
@@wdb047 thank you for posting about this issue. Any further update? Did replacing the motor mostly take care of the issue? Mine is making this sound quite frequently.
I replaced the motor under warranty and the noise stopped -- for a few years. It started doing it again a few months ago but has since stopped again. I believe you can simply unplug the motor and not worry about it; it performs a fairly minor function. You'll still have hot water.
@@JohnAbdulla Just to add this tidbit in there. The motor is used in commerical applications when you have more than one heater in cascading application and not for home use. I called support and they sent me a bulletin that 1) calibrated the water valve 2) disables the water value by unplugging it. I suggest you go to their website, get the support number and call them for the bulletin.
Interestingly, it's doing it again.
I have the exact same issue. Is it the flow regulator as mentioned in your previous thread or was it something else? I power cycled the unit and the noise stopped. I'm betting that the noise will come back.
Hello guys, I've got the same problem, the tech came by, checked the unit, said it was the burner shut-down noise, when the water is too hot and you try to adjust with more cold water, it's simply shuts down - that's why the noise.
That's not the same issue as I had.
do you know what it was? mine does the same thing
Flow control regulator. It's a motor-driven valve that controls how much water is entering the heater. The motor is trying to find its "home" position and failing for some reason so it keeps trying. If you touch the motor it will be very, VERY hot.
Hey I've got a new Bosch that occasionally makes the same noise. Always stops when I turn the unit off and back on. Ever figure out the cause?
Flow control regulator. If yours is cycling once when you first power it up it is probably okay. If it keeps going, get a replacement. Takes just a few minutes to pop a new one in.
