I watched this video back when you first posted it and I got me a can of DeSqueak. It's been my go to fix for noise ever since. All these years later I am still on the first can. It even has rust at the bottom of the can. But it's great stuff. I comment on all the RUclipsr channels that explain cleaning techniques that turn out to be bullcacky. That wee little vile of bike specific paste that some are pushing sells for around $30 ??? C'mon. Why is everyone always trying to rip off cyclists? Well, just want to say you are a hero for putting out this video and thank you.

Always shake your spray can upside down! This guarantees that what ever is in the bottom of the aresol can will - thanks a bit to gravity - mix its contents alot more thoroughly!

Tried your technique on my excessively squeaky Scott road bike. It worked great! My local auto parts store didn't have the CRC spray, but the alternate compound spray they had appeared to work well. Thanks 🙏

Gonna come back here every week or so and make sure nobody buys this stuff, and this guyt makes no money off of it. He lies about the claim that it"just wipes off". It is very hard to get off, and could take you hours to do so, like me even with a degreaser and brush.

Dont buy this for anything but a car. This is made for car rotors that will be covered by wheels, and even then with some wheels you will see a bunch of this stuff on the car unless you take time to SCRUB it off, and you will need a stainless steel brush to get it off. Use a paste that you can spread on. I just spend 2 hours getting this stuff off, and that was with using a degreaser and brush. it most definitely does NOT "wipe off" like this guy says. I almost just bought a whole new rim. Thanks for ruining my rims guy.

DONT USE THIS ON BIKES. This is for cars where the rotor and the area around it will be covered by the wheel. This crap is a pain to get off, even with a degreaser. I just spent 2 hours getting rid of all this crap because the guy said"it just wipes off". It doesnt wipe off at all. If you are despereate to try something like this get a paste de squeek that you can wipe on. I almost just bought a whole new rim because of guys lies.

"dont worry if you spary some on the spokes you can wipe it off". Its definitely not wipeable. Im trying with isopropyl alcohol, and it is a pain in the ass to get off with some heavy scrubbing.

This stuff is a pain to get off of the spokes, and rim. I was going to cover them with paper, or a plastic bag, but went outside and forgot. Now I have htis gunk all over the spokes, and it is a pain to get off so far. Do yourself a favor and cover the spokes etc more then this guy did. This guy for sure has crap all over his spokes from this that does not come off easy. Also the spray did not work, but it could work for you as the reason behind the squeek could be different, or I didnt bake it in properly. I would look for a paste though that you can rub on this stuff is a pain to clean off.

I've used this product; CRC De-Squeak on my bike. Fixes the squeak temporarily meaning the noise returns. Also the overspray doesn't clean up with just a rag. It took mineral spirits since the stuff is like paint.

I may be the odd one but I like a bit of wheel squeak. We don't normally have break lights so the sound is a good alternative. Nothing crazy like that though. Just a wee bit.

So you don't clean it at the end? You just leave the abrasive on your rotors and pads?

Doing the bedding process downhill makes it easier, but you need a big hill. The bedding of pad compound into the rotor can wear off due to repeated water and dirt between pad and rotor. Uneven pistons diameters (lower cost/ precision calipers) also cause pads to apply and release unevenly. Bought a bike after using a hand me down for many years which had rim brakes, never had this issue. Now with the new bike everyone said that they are better than rim brakes but never let me know of the squeal issue. Even though I bed or clean/sand rotors and pads, I have to practically do this more times than I would like to keep the noise down. I don't ride in dirt nor rain but regardless bikes are supposed to get dirty, are we expected to keep cleaning the brakes consistently? I don't for my car. Why would they replace an already good option of rim brakes with these, I don't see a big difference in braking power, I just don't understand.

I tried it, and it didn't last any longer than any other method to stop disk brake squealing. It left a gunky mess to clean up after. Once it dried on my bike, rotors, and pads, alcohol or even regular citrus degreasers did not remove it. Fortunately, I had a can of Citrol Degreaser and that removed all residue quickly. It was worth a try, but I'm back to doing a light sanding of rotor and pads using alcohol when squeal comes back, which it will eventually. I've accepted that it's part of bike maintenance that can't be avoided.

I think it’s normal for the squeal to vanish when the pads and discs are hot. Trouble is the noise returns when they’re cold.

was having nonstop sqeak, loosened the quick release pulled and held the brake and retightened the quick release. fixed the sqeak.

What product t did you use

I had the same problem with my front disc brake and I sprayed ready wrench on it. It worked for a little bit. I will definitely do this trick next time.

Shop was not open to get de squeak so just went to a quiet long hill and applied breaks. Worked !!!

Sqeaking in a car s brake system signals replacing pads. Believe the same for a bike, especially an e bike. If you haven't changed your pads after 6 months and riding fast all the time, it's best to do the pads. Don't ruin your bike s brake system. Simple effort over tricking ya ride.

So I just had one that I haven't heard anyone else post pop up and it has to do with the friction coefficient of the pad causing the howl. New four piston XTR 12 speed. The 203 in the front will howl with metal pads no matter what you do. New pads brake cleaner all of it. At least the cheap metal pads. On a 180 rotor it's fine. You swap over to an organic pad on the same 203 that was howling no more noise. I tried three different sets of metal pads. They all had issues. It seems like they are so grabby that they make the rotor resonate. Why that doesn't happen on the 180 or 160 I have no idea but the cheap copper Shimano metal pads don't work well on a 203 for piston. Planning on trying the actual XTR metal pads when they go back in stock but the organic version works great

A better and quicker method is: take out your wheel; take out the brakepads; grease the BACKSIDE of the brakepads a bit. This is because the sound is mostly made by the friction between pistons and pads.

Thank you so much this video helped me resolve my squealing. I'm in the U.K so I got a different brand but did what you said after applying the product, really need to heat it up by breaking half way until eventually the terrible noise disappears. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Okay, watched this vid on Sunday, bought the stuff today and I was about to call bullshit after the squealing got louder and louder and the neighbors came out to see what ruckus was, so I stopped to talk and explain and when I went to show them how my brakes squealed….well they were completely silent…..neighbors just think I am wierd now 🤪but my brakes are quiet so thank you!
