Star Wars Original Teaser Trailer from 1976 #starwars
and yes, it was light years ahead of its time. and still is.
it sure was. even the theatrical versions look better today than a lot of films that come out today...its super impressive.
It was cool. Second movie I ever saw in the theater as a kid.
I was 12 years old in 1983. Return of the Jedi was opening up on a weekday. First show as scheduled for noon. My mother dropped me off at the theater around 3 a.m.. No one was in line yet. About 5 minutes later 2 college students showed up. The look of disappointment in their face seeing me at the door was priceless. They offered to pay me $10 each to let them in front to be the first. The next day at school I was telling my class mates about it. Of course there is always one that went and told the teacher. Ms. Taylor thought she would be smart and call me out in front of the class. She asked me about the movie in front of everyone. I said it was great. She then asked what my mother would think about it when she called her. I told her to go ahead she was the one that dropped me off at the theater.
Nice!!! Taking a day off school to see Jedi..is a day very well spent!
No, but you may need to see a therapist after you watch it. I would highly recommend you dedicate yourselves to a franchise that ISN'T actively insulting their fan bases and circling the toilet drain. Star Wars is dead.
Seems the Disney era of Star Wars is very mixed. For the most ive liked it (yes even including The Acolyte) but I dont love all the new stuff, but I do love that we are getting new stuff. I enjoyed Ahsoka and do hope we get a Season 2 of the show as it did leave it kinda open. I will still always prefer the original trilogy though above all else, but thats because of when I watched it, and that it was so very different from a lot of the things I watched. Star Wars Lives (but has hit some speed bumps along the way)
@@StarWarsCantinaUnofficial Okay so I spent about 20 minutes writing out a response, trying to point out all the bad writing, plot holes, key jangling, god awful acting, blatant racism and misandry, and political agendas--but it would've taken me hours, so I'll just say this: you have terrible taste in TV, and you're just another wannabe Disney shill channel hoping to get invited for a free stay at that hotel that they bankrupted. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but that's how anyone that happens onto this video or others like it by accident are going to think. If you want to keep going down this path, just be prepared, you're going to get a lot more people calling you out and they won't be nearly as civil as I'm trying to be. This is coming from an actual Star Wars fan...I'm one of those people that kept this franchise alive during the dark ages between RotJ and TPM--I bought the books, I read the comics, I played the video games. And how am I being repaid now? Accused of being racist and sexist by every show runner and writer from Disney because we dare to not drink up their slop. And let's just point out how ironic it is that you're two white guys endorsing this crap...kind of like all the women that endorse Donald Trump, despite him being a rapist.
The movie Star Wars Empire Strikes Back int the 80s was awesome for me when I was a teenager and Return Of The Jidai was also awesome for me in the 80s were awesome time's good 🎥😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Who else read the novelization before the film came out?
I don't think I read it before the film, but I did read it pretty close afterwards. I wish I still have my copies of the books
£6.99! Wild! Thank you for the shout out 😊
This was in the Star Wars empire of the dreams documentary in the original Star Wars dvd
2026? F**k off. Star Wars is dead.
Filoni, get bent.
are you not a fan of Dave's?
Room full of men desperate to hold on to any vain hope of a good star wars movie. Were they ever in for a disappointment. number nine basically killed star wars.
I think Ep 9...definitely put a lower score on Star Wars. But it certainly didn't kill it.
I FELL ASLEEP IN THE THEATRE.
honestly with the fits people threw over TLJ, i wasn't expecting them to cheer for an ep 9 teaser
Episode 10 when?!?
Its an episode 9 trailer ( IX)
@@StarWarsCantinaUnofficial I KNOW, BUT I WANT EPISODE 10, NOT NINE.
@@gdam0079 ahhh who knows when/if we will get episode 10, I mean we will of course get more Star Wars films, but ....
@@gdam0079 What person in their right mind would want another SW movie in the franchises' current state?
Wow, without any of the iconic music.
yep., this trailer was done before John Williams recorded his iconic score.
I was 6. This really brought back the excitement... there was nothing else like it in the 70's.
the 70s was a great decade for film. My favourite.
Maybe it'll break even. Doubt it.
¡hola!
hola!!
It was around 3:30 in the afternoon, KHOU TV, on a 13" black and white, while I was making my self an after school snack...this trailer stopped me dead in my tracks.
The Loews Astor Plaza in NYC was THE place to see SW, as the theater had been upgraded to 70mm 6 track Dolby sound, superior to the standard 35mm and sound systems of other theaters.
By the way, Star Wars was booked for the Loews Astor Plaza in NYC for a month, where it would be replaced by the James Bond fim "The Spy Who Loved Me." Well, that never happened as SW ran continuously for a year, finally replaced by "Superman: the Movie."
I do miss those days where films ran for ages! Now its a rush to the theatre in the opening week or two or its gone! Oh how times have changed.
This was played at the Star Trek Minicon III about a month before the film's release. It was played over and over again and saying it generated interest would be an understatement.
was it straight away a 'oh this looks amazing; feeling, or was it more a 'what the heck is that' type feeling? (im guessing the former)
honestly that is such a lame title lmao.
the title does feel very Disney+ ish- I cant help wondering if they will change the title though- as they often do with Star Wars films
To think the studio wasn't sure this movie would make back its investments.. Oh how wrong they were.
its crazy isnt it, but I kinda get it. Looking at the teaser trailer, Star Wars looked like nothing else that had ever been done. It was such a gamble, but its certainly one that paid off.
I was 9. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
I guess the John Williams score hadn't been finished yet when the ad aired. The music they do use sounds like it's from a horror movie with the same key just repeating itself over and over again.
very true. apparently the score by John wasnt recorded until March 5, 8-12, 15 and 16, 1977 now thats impressive!
The music is from am opus by Vivaldi, I believe.
@@fredpagniello3267 ahhh i had heard the piece before. but i never knew more than that. Thanks Fred. May The Force Be With You
I think the other thing that is going on here is that the studio didn't really understand Star Wars. Science fiction at the time was all strange and otherworldly, and they didn't realize that George was trying to make it feel real, emotional, and lived in. That's why George says it's more like a fairytale than science fiction. Star Wars also had a lighter tone than most science fiction of the time. From what I've heard, the bottom line is that Fox just didn't get it or understand what they had on their hands at that point. I think that's part of why it exploded at the box office after like the first week. Nobody really went in with high expectations, and then they were blown away by what they experienced. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
@@Blumerang-v7f Well, Time Magazine's review asked what could a punk kid, has-been general, and a comedy team of robots do? Why plenty! Thus movie was just what people needed, a blockbuster that entertains. First, there was "The Exorcist," then "Jaws," and now "Star Wars." There was a joke about the Devil crying on a sidewalk. When asked why, he said he was displaced by a Shark. I guess later in 1977 the they were both crying on each other's shoulders lamenting how they were replaced by that trio cum wise-ass Pilot and his walking carpet and a Princess...or they joined the crowd and bought a pair of tickets...
Why?
why not :)

it looked like the RazorCrest didnt it, of course that could be a flashback.
Jude law I remember him in enemy at the gates where he plays a sniper during World war 2 good movie check it out if you aren't Familiar with him
Enemy At The Gates is fantastic. Ed Harris too isnt it. I think i first saw Jude Law in the 90s when he starred in the film Shopping by Paul WS Anderson. I like that movie.

The letterbox ratio means... well, it's a long story, but the short version is that the resolution will not be as high as if it had been mastered directly for widescreen tv:s.
ahhh okay, I think I just quickly saw the 4:3 a few years ago and presumed it was fullscreen, and so didnt get around to watching the theatrical version recently- I was so happy to see it was widescreen. Thanks Doc!
I bought that set the morning it went on sale and took the day off from work. I found the Easter egg blooper reel on the first day! It was awesome! But you are mistaken, Hayden is the Force ghost at the end. Lucas filmed Hayden as well as the updated Emperor scene for Empire while filming ROTS in 2003.
Such a good set, oh noooooooooooooooo about Hayden being the force ghost at the end, I always though that it was the blurays that had that updated scene... thanks for the heads up. And I bet that was a great day off work watching those movies on DVD back in the day.
@@StarWarsCantinaUnofficial it was awesome. The Hayden and Emperor scenes really surprised me. The only thing I was disappointed in was the music cut out in one of my favorite parts where the X-Wings first descend on the Death Star. It was put back in for the Blu-ray though.
@@KevyNova the various changes in the films over the years is a task and a half to keep track of, thats for sure :)
