A new project... a 2001 Suzuki GSXR 600 not started for 10 years..can I get it to run or will it be a scrapper? Either way, £500 seemed a decent price for it! under 10,000 miles too!

replacing the shonky old cheap and nasty chain and sprockets on the vfr, now that it has been used for about 500 miles and seems to be ok, after it's 2 year sojourn outside in the wet Welsh weather at Merthyr Tydfil. I used genuine Honda bits and the bike is much smoother now...

A seized torque arm assembly on the rear caliper meant it was impossible to adjust the chain, so time to take it all apart, clean off the corrosion, regrease and reassemble. All peachy now!

The regulator has just gone on my 1.9tdi conversion. Glad I found this video before I removed the alternator 😁
Any advice on how to get the pistons back in….im struggling with that part
Is this the same for the Honda Blackbird?
Merci pour la vidéo 13ans passer et je dois changer mon charbon aussi je me demandais comment faire.
Thanks for vid my t4 2.4 d has temp light coming on also fuel gauge goes up at same time any ideas
12 years later this video is still helping! Thanks.
Can you please contact me and let me know how you managed to purchase this bike for that money
Sounds fantastic ....... Do you still have the honda vfr 800
I guess it will save some money on earplugs do you still have the bike ...
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Sir. Cheers from the USA. 👍🏍
Excellent, thanks buddy.
Cheers for that, local honda dealer yesterday insisted i put 540ml of fluid per leg! manual says 457+ - 2 also you said 450ml which is what i went with...
I used as much as you
Thanks for your video. Easy to follow. Hopefully I'll be able to fix mine now.
Brilliant, thanks buddy.
So I only need some copper grease and some brake cleaner to do this (besides tools of course)?
Rear sprocket looks on backwards
Jobs a good'un. Cheers mate.
Just went to fit & my Valeo alternator doesn't have a removable charge regulator so I'm booking at returning it for a partial refund
Thank you very much. I know when I had a chain fitted last I was told my cush drive was past it sell by date.. Hopefully all u have to do is remove sprocket and cush drive housing. And chain tentioner not seized on as with your bike.. 🤣. But knowing me. A solid as a rock now. . But thank you loads. 10/10 for video. And a new subby
Tnx for helping me out!
Thanks for posting, but the Piston popped out of the slave cylinder on my 2000 VFR (grrrrrrrrr), so I'm of the opinion that the Hays boys were right about the zip tie.
Did you have the flashing oil light, battery light on and rev clock not working before this fix.?
That top bolt on the left side can be a bugger. Stripped it the first time I changed the pads and ended up having to drill it. Minor nightmare.
I'm trying to undo the footrest hanger but it won't budge. It seems to be a 22mm socket but it just won't move! Can youy help?
Great vid! I have the exact same problem, however during trying to get the brake caliper bracket un-seized I have used quite a bit of WD-40 to hopefully penetrate the seized area and doing so I have got quite a bit into the bearings, I now realise this was a big mistake as I believe the WD-40 will just dilute any grease I reapply to the bearings. What would be the correct procedure to go about getting all the WD-40 out of there without having to remove the bearings completely? Can I just spray brake cleaner onto the bearings and then reapply the grease? How do I go about getting all the WD and brake cleaner out of the bearings completely before applying grease? I am almost ready to put it all back together, just waiting on new circlip to arrive... Will also have to find a circlip tool large enough to insert the new clip too... Hopefully my local power tool for tradesmen will help me out with that. Hope you see this as this is quite an old vid. Great work keep it up, you are a credit to youtube!
Nice job amazing mantenens
nice one got mine to do. now have a head start on what to free up. made a start on the main hub side. first single sided swing arm for me so a big thx :)
I hope you removed the O2 sensor before striking an arc
Thank you Sussex biker, I have a VFR single sided swing arm on my 954 blade, just watched your video and it was very usefull informative
Thanks for the video. I do mine tomorow... and i hoped that it just worked. But no... I hope that it will be as easy as your video shows :-P
Serious thank you! I just loosed my own calliper bracket following your guidance. 👍
Was 1 litre enough for both or does one need more than 1 bottle?
450ml in each is 900ml total so 1 litre bottle is plenty.
Great video! Thank you!!

Mike Samuels hi mike how get on changing the bearings in the st and what bearings did you get and from were. I will be doing mine soon. Cheers Jeff
great step by step, thanks for making the bolts loose before recording.
Top vid m8,thank you.
Hi, got a couple of questions: When you grease the housing at 3:45 do you use normal lithium grease? Also you mention staking the nuts with a hammer/chisel at 6:25... What does this mean? Apologies if these are silly questions - I'm still a bit wet behind the ears in this department. Thanks in advance.
sorry for the delay, been away... I used ordinary lithium multipurpose grease. Staking the nuts means using a chisel to knock a portion of the nut edge down to stop it undoing,..hope this helps..
when you measure the gap is it with the top tube pushed all the way down or is it pulled all the way up i can never tell
push it all the way in...
You don't now to fix a coolant fan on a vfr800 vtec mine is broken won't turn on to cool system down
Top drawer mate!
That slave cylinder you pull off at 1:00...... You have to drain the clutch fluid first then?
You don't have to,... Sorry for my bad english, 'cause i'm german
You would need to bleed the brakes if you had removed the brake fluid but if you are just pushing the pistons back in then all that's happening is fluid is forced back in to the reservoir without introducing any air. If you are fitting some aftermarket pads that are thicker than the ones taken out then you should take the top off of the brake reservoir otherwise when it's full the pistons wont go all the way back in. If you have the piston where your caliper mounts to the fork then that would be the input to the back brake, the torque reaction caused by the pads biting moves the piston in forcing the brake brake on. Don't forget to bleed that bit too if you change your fluid.
What model is this, im hoping youre going to say RC24 as im about to replace my rotten exhausts too...
What year is your vfr? I have a '98 and I didnt' think it had linked braking, so I was wondering if that was what was going on with the "floating caliper" you mentioned. Also is there no bleeding of the brake fluid involved?
Thanks!
