Restoring a 1977 Snapper Comet HV (Part 1)
Hey guys, it's been a while since I've uploaded, but here's a cheap Lawnmower I picked up that hasn't been driven or actually cut grass for the better part of 30 years. In this video, I'll take off the parts I need to replace and also take off a few engine parts and prepare them for paint. With this mower, I plan to use it for a summer lawncare business that I'll be starting here soon. In the upcoming uploads, I plan to nearly fully restore the mower and clean it up real nicely. I will also be uploading a first start/ will it run when I get to that point in the project.

HOW did you determine it's a 1967?? By the engine code? Because that mower is newer than 67
Mr. Matt, I worked AT the factory when this was built, can you tell me the Model info on the Serial Plate on the main case just under the seat?? That would help me with a project I'm working on
Make a update!
i hate them they are death trap mowers
Great project👍
Came to Kansas 30 years ago . Was only supposed to be 5 . it’s not that bad
The last Snapper riding mower ( that I recently bought) has the complete grass catcher. I bought the Snapper mower for $100!
I wish I can find a grass catcher
I would treat that Snapper seat with some vinyl, rubber conditioner to maintain it. My two Snapper riding mowers do not have the original Snapper seats. I see your mower has the original Snapper seat. The Snapper seats are over $200 to buy a new Snapper seat!
I like it. I have bought three old Snapper mowers in the past 4 weeks. The last one I bought 4 days ago needs a carburetor so I bought one on e-Bay for $15 with free shipping. I am waiting on it to be delivered.
that is a Pretty good looking machine , based on what I am looking at your machine probably dates from around 1978-81 , the first clue is the plastic cover on the deck , prior machines had a white painted metal deck cover , I believe the cover was red painted Metal in 1977 , it has the 1973 and later handle bars , also the plastic fuel tank behind the seat was a late 70's modification , I also can see that your machine has a 33 inch Hi Vac recycler deck , the comet name did disappear in the early 1980s , and at about that same time they also had Blade safety pedals installed so the deck would disengage if you fell off the machine , also early Snapper Comet machines had 4 lug rear wheels up until the very early 1970s I hope this helps , it appears the engine is mostly original to your machine so you can date the engine using the model -type- Code Numbers stamped on the starter cover above the spark plug Hope that helps and good luck
You really know snapper mowers👍 thanks for all the information, I’m looking for one that I can restore, what year mower was used in Forrest Gump??
@@gabe5946 I believe it was a 1980s model actually Probably similar to your Machine I remember correctly Forests Machine had the Large Font SNAPPER decal on the front of the Foot Board /Front axle
Not even a 67. That's a 80s model. 😂
I just went off what the old owner told me 🤷🏻♂️, it's definitely pre 1980s after it has different stickers on it
@@matthewshaw9078 pre 80s main frame. 80's on up deck swapped onto unit.
Back in the day when I was a kid these were real popular. Very simple low tech well built mowers.
Kickass man! These mowers are fun for doing wheelies!
How stoned are you niggas god damn
