Figure 8 (Ellie Goulding Cover) | Anna Alynn & Max Thompson, Live at the Sun Garden, 2024
"Figure 8" by Ellie Goulding, featuring the talented @annaalynnmusic on vocals. A highlight from this April's gig at the Sun Garden in Moorhead, MN. Anna has recently relocated to Nashville, TN, and is a great vocalist and writer that I've enjoyed working with for the past several years. Highly recommended for any musical projects, gigs, or studio work you might have in mind! Nashville musos, don't miss out on one of the kindest and most genuine singers and musicians you will ever meet.

Why I'm Returning My Hammer 88 Pro
Просмотров 12 тыс.3 года назад
Though I quite like the keybed and control layout, as well as the high build quality, after getting a second Hammer 88 Pro that has hanging midi notes just like the first, I am giving up on this model. The occasional octave transposition being triggered was annoying, and though the pads can't send multiple program changes (i.e. one per zone), those weren't 100% deal breakers for me. Hanging/stu...

Today I officially became a guinea pig. :D Unboxing and first impressions of the brand-new M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro controller. I'm coming at this from the viewpoint of a pianist who also plays a lot of other instrument parts, who likes a light, fast, but solid hammer action (ex. Kawai RHIII in their ES8 MP7SE). Obviously this can't compete with those dedicated stage pianos, but that's kind of whe...

I heard of this issue online, specifically with the pro version, that is why I stay with the Hammer 88 regular version!
What an absolutely delightful bit of playing!!! I really enjoyed your demo of this instrument!
Please help me, my jv1000 is stock on one tone no matter the botton you press to change the key it won't change😢.
Do you mean the buttons aren't working for changing sounds (i.e. from piano to brass)? If that's the case, it's likely that the switches have worn out. My JV-1000 has a few buttons that are starting to be less responsive, so I've tried to be very gentle with it. I'll probably have to replace them eventually. This guy has a good video on that process: ruclips.net/video/Rl19XuHi4o0/видео.html
very helpful thank youuu
Encore! I just played one of these models and it was great!
How do i save recordings ive made in pattern mode??
That depends whether you're wanting to save the actual sequence itself or if you're wanting to render an audio file of it instead. Saving the sequence to its current location in Pattern Mode would be the same process as in Song Mode. IIRC that's "Store->Yes" or something similar - it's been a hot minute. If you're wanting to render audio, you can use the built-in audio recording function to a USB stick, which will give you a .wav file.
Hi bro! Can u do samples of this keyboard in wavs?
I'm not set up to do that, but Roland Cloud has a JV-1080 plugin that covers many of the same sounds. I do think the JV-1000 sounds a bit different, but the basic sound is similar (it's more of an EQ/saturation difference, partly from the sample rate being 32kHz on the older JV's).
Same problem with the Hammer 88. I checked the midi routing which is extensive in my setup- (lots of midi merging). I connected a Yamaha MCS2 to avoid the direct sustain jack out. No solution. I can't take the keyboard out for a booking. How is this possible from M-Audio?
Whatever brand or model of keyboard they give you, you will do it justice.
Brother, what a beautiful piano practice, you have done full justice to the skill in your mind and body.
Thank you! Much appreciated!
Thanks a lot for this video because I was on the point of purchasing a Hammer 88 Pro and I also had the same problem as you with another controller from M-Audio. I had a Axiom Pro 61 and it had the same issue as yours, there was some notes which kept playing for some unknown reason. Never been able to know why. It just happened. There is also the issue that M-Audio has the tendency of not updating their driver fast enough or not at all. I had some very advance soundcard which simply stopped working after some few months simply because there is a new OS coming out and there was no driver to adapt the soundcard with the new OS.......So, thanks, you have prevented me from doing another mistake with M-Audio again.
hey max ! can we use roland sr-jv expansion cards with jv 1000 ? are they compatible ?
Yes - there's space for one SR-JV expansion board in the JV-100/JV-90. I plan on adding the Session board to bring some of the sounds more up to date, but any of them work. There's also a slot for an SO-PCM1 card and a memory card for user patches.
I used to have that keyboard
how much?😅😅😅
I believe I paid approximately $350 for the JV-1000 back in 2018.
De très bonnes sonorités ce clavier 🎹👍. Une très bonne continuation musicale et vive la musique 🎹 Theret Jean-Luc.

It’s time for the Maudio company to change their tactics. There are constant problems with low-cost systems. I recently bought an M audio Air 192. Support for tools has been discontinued.. why? after all, I paid precisely to get about the tools. It’s better to save a little money and buy a Yamaha than this......Sh
the same works for a jv90?
The patches should be the same - I believe the JV-1000 just added the sequencer.
My ears, in fact, my brain, is melting from these sounds. Such beauty.
Wish I could play like you! So effortless!
Hello, I might buy this keyboard but I have doubts if it is a good purchase since it is an old keyboard
Hey! In my opinion, it really depends on what you're planning to use the keyboard for. It's not really a good choice if you're going to be performing piano/electric piano/acoustic sounds live, or honestly for much gigging use just due to its age. I use mine largely as a studio instrument for recording, for the old Roland sounds. What was your planned use case?
@@MaxThompsonMusic well i Well, I was thinking of using it live in my Church but it seems like it's not a very good idea.
Yes, for that use, I wouldn't recommend it now. It only has 28 voices of polyphony and so layering something like a piano and a pad will bring you down to around 7 voices total. I made a custom patch that got me up to 14 notes of polyphony available, but that isn't much at all, especially if you're using the sustain pedal.
@@MaxThompsonMusic thanks for your help
My experience with M-audio is pretty good. I bought a used m-audio keystation 61es like 10 years ago. The guy I bought it from said he had played on it like crazy for several years. After I used it for like 5 years or something it started to have midi notes hanging. I reseted it to factory settings and it worked again. It happened from time to time but was always fixed by a reset. Thing was released in 2004 and still works. Keys are not exactly wonderful to play now though : ))
Tria bells
Love that patch - and it's survived all the way up to the current Fantom (2019) models.
I hope this message finds you!!! I just purchased a used Fantom 2days ago!!! I was following along with Mr. Ed presentation but my board wasn’t matching his set up!!! Is it because it’s still version 1.3 or that doesn’t matter the version?
Hi! The VTW organ engine was added with OS version 2.0. Anything before that will not have anything but the old PCM organs.
Love this! Adding to my Christmas jazz playlist.
Awesome, thanks so much! Glad you liked it!
Not the keyboard problem 🙂
Hey bro what vst did you use for this video, please I'd appreciate your reply
Hey! I actually just used a hardware rack module, a Roland Fantom XR. It's older but I really liked it. www.roland.com/global/products/fantom-xr/
@@MaxThompsonMusic Alright, thank you! What other good vsts can you recommend?
It depends on the styles of music and instruments you're going for! What are you looking for specifically or what genres of music do you work in?
@@MaxThompsonMusic Mostly Christian contemporary
So as a general-purpose all-rounder that covers a lot of areas, I tend to suggest the basic Kontakt set (the paid version of Kontakt 7, as the "Komplete Start" free version is missing most of the better sounds in the factory library). While none of the included sounds are necessarily top-notch, I find there's enough there to cover your basic keys needs (especially if you include the other free sounds from Native Instruments). For organs, I like IK's B-3X, and I'm a fan of NI Session Strings for pop strings. Otherwise I tend to have specific VSTs for different sounds I need - for pianos, check out Sampletekk and AcousticSamples. For electric pianos, Purgatory Creek's soundsets for Kontakt are top-notch. For orchestral needs, I have had good luck with EastWest Opus. But again, I tend to have specific sample sets for certain instruments, like a dedicated cello library, for example.
got an M-Audio Keystation 49 MK3 that does the same hanging notes problem whenever i made a hammond gliss.. tried every trouble shooting but no luck.. bought a Roland keyboard midi controller and never have the same notes hanging problem. almost bought an Oxygen pro but thankfully i watched you video.. so .. thank you..
How to uninstall KORE64 card from Kurzweil PC3?
I believe it should be pretty much the reverse process.
You've got some chops., that's for sure. Thanks for the video.
Vc tem zap amigo quero fala com vc eu tenho um rolond jv90
I do not have that app, but how can I help you? Another great resource is the MPN Keyboard Corner forum at forums.musicplayer.com.
Hello sir, please is there anyway I can get the jv 1000, software driver for FL studio, because my FL studio is not connecting to it
You will need a midi interface or combination midi/audio interface to connect the JV-1000 to FL Studio/your computer. It is far too old to have USB Midi and doesn't have any drivers either. You will need to use the 5-pin midi via an interface, and use that interface's drivers.
It’s like the sustain pedal is constantly pressed down. Trying to remove the sustain pedal or turning off the power and unplugging the sustain pedal may work. Some sustain pedals may determine whether it’s at 127 or 0 based on the connection status when powering off.
Yes, I made sure to do that, but it didn't fix the issue. There was no sustain pedal connected when the issues reoccurred with the second unit either unfortunately.
We just picked one up as a rebuild project. Excited to get it up and running. Thanks for the great demo!
is there any bank from JV1000 to JV1080’s vst? or some JV1000’s vst?
Roland Cloud has a JV-1080 vst and a JD-800 vst. I'm not aware of a plugin that specifically duplicates the JV-1000.
@@MaxThompsonMusic I found! it is a .bin bank that has the JV 1000 patches
Sweet! Do you mind sharing where you found that? Could be useful for other folks!
Does it have regular piano voice
Only the two piano sounds shown in this video, Piano 1 and Piano 2. Neither sounds anything close to a real acoustic piano - this is FM synthesis and acoustic piano replication is not its strong suit.

Hello my friend, can I ask you? Which keyboard do you find less fatiguing or heavy to play? the hammer 88 pro you had, or the kurzweil pc4 you have? Which of the two do you think is more of a light and fast key?thanks
I find the PC4 to be less fatiguing and faster than the Hammer 88 Pro. I found the Hammer 88 Pro's action to be rather heavy (and it had sharp edges), but not necessarily in a bad way.
A very informative video. Thanks a lot. I have got KORE64 and GERMAN GRAND extensions and am looking for more information concerning installation and updates understandably…
I realize it’s been several years since you’ve made this video but I have a quick question. I own a jv1000 that I recently overhauled to get rid of all of the red glue. I never noticed this before but when I power it on I notice a very very slight hum coming from the area around the power supply where the plug is. Can you tell me if you notice the same slight hum coming from where the plug is plugged in on your keyboard thank you.
Hey Al, I don't recall if that is something I remember or not - I'm away at college and the JV-1000 is back home, but I will be home next month for a few days and will try to check that out for you. Congrats on overhauling the board!
Thanks. By the way, I love these videos you have posted here on YT not to mention that you are very talented
I checked my JV-1000 yesterday when I was back home - I do not hear any sort of a hum around the power supply area or anywhere else. Is the floppy drive running by chance? That's the only other thing I could think of.
@@MaxThompsonMusic ok thanks… as I may have said, the hum is very slight. It’s more noticeable in a very quiet room. If you out your ear very close to the top of the synth new the power switch are you certain you don’t hear anything? Anyway, I think I became fixated on it whereby it became more noticeable but now I am just enjoying using it so it’s not something I concern myself with. Question…did your synth exhibit the problem with the red glue? Again as mentioned I spent about three days disassembling the synth to remove the keyboard chassis, remove all the keys and soak them in the lye solution. Once all the weights were removed and the keys were spotless, I glued all the weights back and reassembled the synth. It plays well and sounds great. It was installed with a voice expansion module for free when I purchase it, but like anything else, the manuals are somewhat difficult to decipher. Once again, I appreciate the feedback. By the way, I am a drummer but a very novice keyboard player. I like dissecting pop tunes by finding the chords on line and then using different chord forms to hear the various voicings if that makes any sense
Hey Al, I did actually put my ear up to the PSU area and there was no noise whatsoever. My unit didn't have the red glue issue to my knowledge - however, I bought it used in 2018 at Music Go Round and it is entirely possible that a previous owner redid the keys/gluing long before I got the board. My JV also has a VE-GS1 board installed (that and the VE-JV1 were the expansion modules available) - it's something of a pain to work with but I don't use the sequencing side of things much on that particular board, so I will just dial up a sound or two off of the GS1 board occasionally for recording or such. I haven't tried to integrate it in a multimbral capacity with Performance mode, as I've just stuck with the regular soundset for that.

Boa noite, Tudo bem , amigo? Comprei um. Poderia me ajudar a salvar timbres de piano e metais? queria montar um banco.
If we need to replace the cr2032 battery, is it at the same place ? Thanks
Hey Daniel, unfortunately I don't recall and don't have access to the PC3 right now.
2 questions, which SOUND EDITOR should be used after installing both extensions (KORE+GERMAN)? And could you prescribe a way how to record sounds from PC3 into a PC. The BIG BLACK BOOK never reveals the information about it. Thanks a Lot.
I believe the regular PC3/K Sound Editor should work (available on the Kurzweil website), but I have avoided the editors primarily because they can be buggy and I didn't really see a real advantage over the onboard programming unfortunately. By recording sounds, do you mean recording audio or saving patches/programs to the computer?
@@MaxThompsonMusic Firstly thanks for your comment. I mean in general how to get the Work Station-and PC3 is one in did-connected externally to a PC or MAC in order to store/record what you’re playing in WAVE and MIDI Formats as well as to have a possibility to adit it. The issue is that according to the BLACK BOOK you may see a general statement that the storage into an USB thumb is possible without to show you the way there in concreto, isn’t it so?
Okay sure - from what I remember, the PC3 will show up as a regular hard drive when you connect it to the computer (by the USB type B port). You can drag and drop files back and forth there I think. I don't believe you can record audio from the PC3 via USB - you can record midi via USB to your DAW program but not audio. I do believe it's a class-compliant system without additional drivers. You can always just use the 1/4" outputs to an audio interface to record audio or the 5-pin MIDI connection instead of USB MIDI, but the USB MIDI/computer drive connection seemed to work fine for me. My PC3 didn't have the ability to use a USB thumb drive but rather an XD card (the USB upgrade was added with the PC3K/A), so I'm not 100% sure what the procedure would be for that for you.
Its clear the notes hang for you, however I feel may you should have tried using a DAW to clarify. I just got my Hammer 88 pro today and it has lots of good to it, nothing hanging so far. If it does hang, I hope to be back here to share.
I didn't think about doing much on the DAW side until after I had shipped both units back, since it wasn't even on the radar for my use case. It's also possible that it was a 5-pin-specific problem and wouldn't occur over USB, depending on how they did the firmware. It also may no longer be an issue, which would be excellent. Good luck!
@@MaxThompsonMusic my notes started hanging in less than 3 days. Bummer! Will have to return it.
That sucks, sorry to hear it! It has so much potential but that issue defeats the purpose of such a great design.
Yea I tried it in a DAW and stand-alone and it has the issues in both
Yes I wish I had returned mine back when I first got it. The little tiny screen has gone all goofy and I can hardly read the screen anymore. This was a monumental waste of money
Thanks so much.
I just ordered the Akai Professional MPk 261 now seeing this one and other reviews, if it doesn’t now have these issues would you suggest me trying it over the Akai?
I see them as serving different purposes in a sense - the Hammer 88 Pro is really geared towards people wanting a lot of controller features and a piano-like feel. I would say that a better choice would be the Studiologic SL88 Grand with the SL Mixface controller module, if the budget fits. But the Akai MPK-261 is a great controller. I like to have nine faders vs 8 because I play a good amount of organ, but aside from that, I would say you will be better served long-term with the Akai model you just bought, *unless* you are wanting 88 keys and a hammer action.
So what did you end up getting?
I went with a Kurzweil PC4; of course that has a lot of very good internal sounds, but I determined that the PC4 and the discontinued Viscount K4-EX were the only two self-contained units on the market that could do everything I needed for the rack midi setup (if you only needed 4 zones, the Kawai MP7SE is a contender as well). There are several other ways to achieve the same result, using outboard midi gear with virtually any keyboard, but at the time that was more expensive and more pieces to deal with. There's lots of info on the options in this thread: forums.musicplayer.com/topic/178967-any-capable-88-key-controllerskeyboards-im-overlooking/
@@MaxThompsonMusic Thanks.
There is a firmware bug with the Hammer 88 Pro which I have reported to M-Audio over 6 months ago. They have not fixed it and have closed the case indicating it as resoved. The bug is that the printing on the cassis to use the piano keys as buttons does not properly line up. So when you are trying to use a piano key to change the MIDI channel, pressing the key for channel 1 gets you channel 16. All printed functions for the keys are shifted like this. It seems like they made the printing or programming for smaller board and went 88 key at the last moment. Really shoddy programming for an otherwise great board. And for M-Audio to be so terrible about the issue, really lame.
Sounds like defective key switches. Bummer quality shot. Could also be a defective IC. Somebody's screwed and someone's unhappy. 😲👀

Good day, Max! How are you doing and how's the Conn doing? I once again return to your terrific video here on the Conn 465!
Hello! I'm attending college full-time these days several hundred miles from home, so I haven't had a lot of time to work on the Conn. It's still set up but I haven't gotten the internal Leslie to work yet. I wish I had more time but I just don't for now.
@@MaxThompsonMusic Oh I see! So if I may ask what is your age? I'm 22. I admire your playing. I wish I can play like you. You're highly skilled. Good luck with college. I'm also in college. Just two weeks ago my dream came true and I found a Conn organ. A Conn Theatrette 552. I'm very excited about the organ but also a bit worried because it's not properly functional and playable. I hope it can be fixed. My organ technician is not too positive about it. It's been my dream to find a Conn, especially a 552. I then thought about this video and wondered how your Conn is doing. I really hope I can get mine up and running 100%. My organ sometimes has intermittent weird things going on. I'm praying that it is only huge amounts of dust causing this. The organ technician will be coming on Friday. I keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the reply. It's good to be in contact again.
I'm 20 currently. I had actually planned to use the pipes that came with this 465 with a 552 that was local to me, but that 552 had way too many issues so I ended up not getting it. Good luck with the technician; a lot of things can be fixed by a good tech with electrical knowledge. That said, if it's keying rods that are the issue, that's a bit of a different situation.
