This episode features the final appearance of Andrew Burt as Jack Sugden - in my opinion the best and most charismatic version of the character. When Jack returned on 19th February 1980 he would be played by Clive Hornby.

Emmerdale Farm - Episode 292 (27th January 1976)
I’m not sure which of these characters I like least. With the possible exception of the mother and grandfather, these are the pettiest people I’ve ever seen
How quaint is it that the grandfather flat out refused to let anyone see him in his pajamas?
Sheila Mercier obviously knew how to cook, not just acting!
love it xx
14:01 The Late Geoffrey Burridge as Mark Proctor. His time in Emmerdale was brief but good. He later popped up in a season 4 episode of Blake's 7 ("Rescue") as a space salvage operator, attempting to capture the Liberator crew. He tragically died aged about 38 from an Aids related illness. Very good actor.
I miss Jack 😢
Hate that he leaves and I know he wont be back for years. Ruins the series for me 😢
What is it with the mens fringe on this show? Lookin like toddlers that got hold of the scissors 😂🤦♀️
I'm enjoying these so much, thank you!! I'm from Yorkshire now living in the USA and these remind me of home!! Will you be uploading any more? I know how much time it takes but if you do get chance it would be much appreciated. Happy new year!! 😁
Can’t blame Peggy for wanting better
Thank you so much for showing this series. I’ve been looking for them after Series 5 forever as they are not on dvd. I hope you can put out even more episodes.
Henry(Wilks) gets back from New Zealand.Alison's pleased to see him.
Jim pushing himself on Sharon is creepy to watch!
Aww, Jo Kendall ❤ RIP xx
Classic England. Now gone forever.
Any chance of more episodes from 1976?You've done a very goodjob so far and I've enjoyed every episode.
Used to have these early episodes on DVD,nice to see them available to watch on smartphones and tablets.
Thanks for the uploads, keep up the good work(!)
Large gap in time between episode 260 and 261.
For a few years the programme took summer recording breaks.
@@classicemmerdalefarm Interesting bit of knowledge, thanks!!
Thanks for the uploads, keep them coming(!)
Thanks for the uploads.
Don't mess with Annie! 😀
Didn't think we were going to see Peggy again!

Gritty Days Of Emmerdale Farm
Oh Frank! I think you have made a big mistake.....
Thank you
Thanks for putting these on. They are (slightly) before my time of watching originally and it's great to catch up with the early storylines
I would like for you to post episodes from 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985 & 1986 without commercials here.
You sound as though you're being very demanding as the uploader is doing his best, however having said that it would be nice to see the rest of the 1976 episodes.
Classic episode
Thank you
Mr Wilks love New Zealand. So do I.
Thank you
Thank you so much
Thank you so much I started watching from beginning and I am enjoying Best times better times my childhood Thank you so much again
Is this the original Woolpack before moving to the current one?
I never knew Lesley Manville was in Emmerdale
pure class
best TV ever
Agreed. This is the best era of Emmerdale Farm and it was shown in the Golden Age of British TV.
@@classicemmerdalefarm I would like to live in this era again
@@barryclarke9815 Me too, my friend. Me too.
Yay. Mr Wilks is off to New Zealand. We'll be waiting for you Henry.
Thank you so much for posting as much as you can of this era of Emmerdale Farm. It's a dream (almost) come true! I, and I'm sure many others, would love you to please keep posting whatever you have. Hopefully the likes of @jamesjamesr460 are willing and able to share what they have, too! :) Thanks again.
5:40 is the final ever scene filmed in Arncliffe that was shown in the series. It is good that Esholt and Arncliffe days did overlap for a while and there was no join as Esholt first appeared in January 1976 and Arncliffe in early April 1976.
I'm guessing this episode was a bit of an 'outlier', though. Which episode would have been the penultimate appearance of Arncliffe if you know, please? I see the gravestone indicates the twins were born in February. The episodes were transmitted in April though some years ago I estimated their birth as having been the previous November! There aren't many fixed dates in the first year of the show (the only absolutes I suppose being the death dates of Jacob (3rd July) and Peggy (12th May) via gravestones again) but I did notice by late 1973 they were starting to allude to anniversaries (e.g. Frank and Janey's first date) which didn't really make sense within the established timeline! Indeed I recently saw (thanks to this channel!) the twins' first birthday, shown on screen in late April about a year after their births were transmitted. Neither this gravestone nor my notes believe they were actually born in April!
@@ColinTM15 I think Jack's return in late March saw a scene filmed in Arncliffe on the bridge. I think they may have been filmed in late 1975 and dropped into March and April 1976 episodes. I think the location filming was about 3 or 4 months in advance. Yes the birth and death of the twins has always been contradicted, the same as Peggy's age. In a 1973 episode it says she was born August 1946, but in a 1982 episode it was said she died in June 1973 aged 29, so born 1943 or 1944. The continuity in the Farm days was not very good. Also Annie was hinted as being born about 1927 or 1928-1929 instead of 1920 in 1988. In 1988 she said she was married by the time she was 18, yet if she wed in 1945 she would be 25 as she had her 70th birthday in July 1990. Annie also said she had 25 years of misery with Jacob. If he died in 1972, that means she wed in about 1947. If she was born 1920 she would have wed Jacob in 1937 not 1947.
@@Uksoapfan As far as varying the ages is concerned, to be fair all the soaps are guilty of this. Ian Beale famously had his 21st birthday two years after his 18th, while the Alahan twins had their 10th birthday a year early. Peter Barlow was aged in the late 70s, but returned to his natural age in 1986. But I do find the 1973 situation a little odd. In episode 104, shown on Emmerdale Farm's first birthday, we get confirmation that events transmitted in July (Peggy's death ('day 87')) were set in May, and indeed in the same episode it is the harvest festival, where a poster for it shows a September date. So as the show turns one we are reminded that we are not watching in real time, as we never have been up to that point. I think there was then a reference to remembrance Sunday IIRC, but towards the end of November rather than the 11th. But suddenly all that is forgotten and we're given the impression that Frank and Janey had began dating just before Christmas 1972. It certainly wasn't the festive season in Beckindale when episode twenty was transmitted (I estimated episodes 20 and 21 ('day 26') to be set around 11th September). Of course, they never really cared about any of this. In episode four (on 'day 5'), Henry's solicitor Peters says he's arranged a meeting with Jack for Monday 22nd. For that to be right we'd have had to have been in either May '72 or January '73. Since we come to know that it must have been July, I can only conclude that he meant to say Saturday 22nd! So trying to date this stuff is a real minefield! However, I consider that all of the first 60 episodes (covering 68 different days ending on 3rd December) take place in 1972. There is then a clearly stated jump forward in time of at least six weeks which accounts for the fact that we never saw any sign of Christmas 1972!
I would really like you to post more, well since the epsiodes of 1977 arent quite available
As said, the show was never quite the same after they left Arncliffe.
😂disagree it’s best years was after arncliffe I’d say when the left eshoult but even they it’s only been the last ten years since the show got worse and worse the village looks more like a. Tv set now
I'm afraid I disagree with you - the show was at it's best in those first couple of years while filming at Arncliffe. Don't get me wrong, the show remained wonderful after the move and into the early 1980s. However, the show has been dreadful for years and years now - in fact it was starting to go seriously downhill just before it changed it's name in November 1989, after that it slid down into the pits very fast indeed.
@@classicemmerdalefarm disagree The 90s was literally the peak of show with Kim and Dave frank and the 2000s still had some of the shows best bits ( Robert and Katie the kings cain charity) farm was great I agree 👍
@@classicemmerdalefarm 1984 was the start of the decline, more focus on crime, and making Jack cheat, and the increase in robberies and the Harry Mowlam stuff, plus Sam Pearson's death and Dolly cheating on Matt in 1988 and much more. And Annie becoming miserable after her dad died. But yes, 1972-Feb 1976 was the best years due to Arncliffe. I went to Esholt years ago but got access to Arncliffe episodes and it made me think Arncliffe was more authentic. I visited the Harewood set years ago as well. I feel some of the Arncliffe style essence was recaptured when they built the Harewood set.
@@deanscott4956 I disagree. By the 1990s it wasn't even the same show. They even dropped a plane on the village so they could 'Reset' the whole show to how the new producers wanted it. Even the show's main writer/creator and some of the actors walked away due to it's huge decline in the late 80s. I agree with @Uksoapfan, the show was declining before it even hit the first soft Reset button when they changed the name in Nov 1989.
Also the final appearance of Mrs Dawkins and the final appearance of the original interior of the shop which had been seen regularly since August 1973. 1976 was a huge year of change for the show. We saw the interior briefly in 1988 and then it was bought back in when the Windsors took it over in 1993.
6:01, the first ever appearance of Esholt in the show. And what was to be the new Woolpack. I would agree that the show was never the same after they left Arncliffe and the original Woolpack was written out.
Who's the sour faced girl? Character
Rosemary Kendall. The great niece of Sam Pearson.
5:40 pretty girl
Marion was mentioned alot in the 1980s when she was in Italy and Jack went to see her at times.
What type of accident did Henry and Joe have?
