Junkyard HHH
Добавлен 26 сен 2017
I got my nickname from the wrestler Junkyard Dog. The HHH came from a coworker who calls me Heavy Haul (insert my last name). I’ve turned wrenches and moved big iron for 20 years. I like all things old. My channel will be work stuff as well as projects in my home shop. Videos will range from a repairs on a drilling rig, trucking advice, fabrication, general life advice, random creations and who knows what else. Maybe even some stories!
I’m not here to make a dime, in fact I hate the concept. I’m here to share things the majority of people will never see and perhaps help teach a new skill or help somebody avoid a mistake. I’ll try to keep the videos short and riveting! Haha.

What a trashed and neglected Diesel engine looks like on the inside. Why do this?
Просмотров 1633 года назад
Working on this little 305 Cat for a friend that bought it knowing it wasn’t right. I had inspected it and we decided a price based on knowing we’d more than likely have to overhaul the engine. 3,600 hours of neglect and this is what you get! Seems pretty typical coming from a utility company.....zero f’s given.

A friend found this welder and another parts machine. I ended up with them and finally decided to get this one running. Had to swap the mag, rebuilt the carb, fresh fuel after a tank cleaning and a little love and we have a runner! Welds great. I’ll make a few more upgrades and it’ll go on the truck.

It’s the hectic summer season, working today on an IMT180 so I can move it Monday. The main issue is the hydraulic leak. I share a few tips on tracking them down as well as a little career advice.
Handy tip! Don’t drain the oil, use a vacuum!! Huge time saver!!

This was last fall. I tried my hand at trying to edit and it didn’t work so here’s the total video. Kinda long. Oh well, a day in the life moving rigs! Moving out of a bridge site on dirt roads to county roads and then to a main highway. 6NZ Cat sounds good! Little did I know that bad luck in threes came with that load. Almost back to my shop I ran out of fuel, for some reason it sucked the one...

Heavy Haul Shimming booster and tie downs
Damn good tip
Is that caused by banging it between forward and reverse to clear the auger? Looks like big bucks. Carry on and take care.
@@carlcarlamos9055 this particular machine was higher hours. The bars and the lugs in the rotary take the beating when banging the bars to clean an auger or dump a mud bucket. IMT’s are stout and we would get thousands of hours out of the rotary and drives before we had to do any major work. Lugs got built up based on drilling conditions and operators. We had one that went over 1,000 hours before we had to build up the lugs. Some can’t make it 250. It’s all technique.
If you get stopped by the DOT with that booster brake line unhooked you will get a big fine!!!
You will never spin the turbo if you don't cover the exhaust!! Why do people cover these??
@@puretrouble1603 trash in the turbo, water in the turbo, and yes in certain machines and exhaust systems you can absolutely spin the turbo going down the road. Stick your hand out of the window at 30 mph and feel how much air is moving across your hand. Will a new machine with a DPF spin? Probably not. An old machine with almost no muffler and a straight shot into the turbo…heck yes. Why give somebody a reason to say you were the potential cause of a failure or problem?

Can you do a video about walking beam
@@deshaunspencer6985 Like truck suspension or some of the older style heavy haul trailers? Or do you mean west coast style evener beam? Or all the above?
Hello From PA!... My Pap had an EQ Mack that sat in the corner of The Garage at His Company, Weber's Trucking Inc in Harrisburg Pennsylvania... I remember the Truck very vividly because I used to always crawl on in there to sit and "Play Truck"... I always picked that one because it was small and easier to get into, me being a kid... Anyhow, it was a single Axle Tractor... And it was Bright Yellow, like a School Bus... That Truck was sold in 1983 or 1984 when he shut the business down... There was an R Model, an F Model, 2 LJ's, 3 H Models, and a handfull of B 61's with Chrome Radiator Shells... Those Trucks were Red and Green... Plus there was a Wreck that was in the weeds out back... I believe that was a Diamond T, Single Axle Dump Truck, an old Gas Job.... Anyhow, That Yellow EQ stayed local... A guy from up near New Bloomfield in Perry County bought that Truck and put a Steel and Oak Flat Bed on it... He usednit to haul Firewood Locally... I kept tabs on it for a long time, but he passed away, and nobody seems to know where it got to... I think back about them Old Trucks sometimes... It upsets me that they were sold... But back then, besides the Newer R and F Models, the rest of them were just "Old Trucks" and were merely part of the business that was being dissolved... I suppose it'd be no different than looking at a 1990 FLD Freightliner that had served it's purpose and is now being sold... Couldn't care less about it.... All I have now is Black and White Pictures and A LOT of Great Memories of my Pap... I usually run a 2007 Peterbilt, but I still have a 1969 R-686 Mack, Twin Screw Tractor Licensed and on the Road... Ya just can't beat an Old Mack!....
Good tips thanks

Thanks for posting this. I noticed my truck fluttering about a week or two ago and seen this video last night. I noticed my MXS leaking today and it looks like it’s the 3/8 fuel line or the fitting.
I have a 2005 257b track loader with 4000 hours , it started jerking/popping off the leftside , no hydro leaks , but seems to get worse the more I try to operate ; feels like a brake issue , I fear it needs a drive motor . Any thoughts ? Thx
Wow, good rule of thumb on the air bag height on all your axles. It's nice to have pressure guages like you have there. Thanks for explaining the shims!

Just now seeing this video and definitely gonna try it out!
Having the same issue with my dash blinking when i turn on my indicator so if this works your my hero, cause the way the electrician tells me, sounds like he's gonna charge me an arm n a leg to fix the issue.

How hard it is to put a face seal on a two seventy nine d cat
Are you talking about the duo cone seal between the motor and final drive?
Thank you sir you've just solved the problem with my van.
You’re welcome, it’s nice to know I’ve been helpful!
Dear sir i am a fairly new subscriber to your channel I'm not quite sure why your channel didn't show up on my feed a lot sooner, I've have been subscribed to some of the most oldest and popular heavy haul channels on RUclips for at least 9 years or better and i have to say I've watched three of your videos so far and based on the videos I had watched i can say unequivocally you have dropped so many gems that these other heavy haul content creator's have not, everything you have spoken about i have experienced, sir there is no one speaking about some of the things you have mentioned and the ones that do ask their subscribers if they are interested in learning more about heavy haul they are willing to teach them at the cost of a fee, and far as I'm concerned you already said more than any of these channels in three videos, but I guarantee if you continue to grow your channel speaking about heavy hauling in the manner you are, your going to gain traction and surpass the other channels guaranteed, I've noticed it's been a year since you've put out some content; maybe life has gotten in the way? It happens but there are a lot of us heavy hauler out here that would enjoy watching your content, hell you might teach some of us a thing or two or at least remind us how its done, you know the old saying keeping our axe sharp anyway i will end by saying great great videos and keep up the good work and hope to see more future content, coming from a driver sitting for nine days waiting for a ten axle unladen permit in a not so truck friendly city in california 😂

I have this same poping noise and it’s like the right side won’t move at all pretty much it’ll sorta go but at snail speed and it’s locking up also as it’s trying to go, is there a manual or starting point I can check and how to Check it I’m pretty mechanically inclined so I wanna try to fix it myself, thanks
Send me an email, I have the Cat info to disassemble and reassemble. thejunkyardmethod@yahoo.com
The most important point that I feel like you made in this video is on being patient. I had to learn that lesson the hard way. I was taught early on to always be moving as quickly as I could, and it ended up biting me in the tail when I got into a pair of accidents. The first accident happened because I was impatient, and the second one happened because I had run myself ragged trying to keep everyone else happy. I am incredibly lucky that no one was seriously hurt in either incident. I'm looking forward to getting back into the HH game after having some time away from it to reflect on things. Thank you for this video, I found you through HEF!
Could be spit not hydraulic
Excellent video sir, I appreciate the tips and tricks.
Is there any way I can direct message you , got some questions about a 50 ton ledwell?
You can email me thejunkyardmethod@yahoo.com.
When you take the final drive off can you pull the drive motor through the whole the final drive mounts too ?
Yes. You may have to pull the hydraulic fittings off, I don’t recall for sure.
If you have the proper mirror extensions you don’t need the flags to see the booster!!!
I’ve tried every mirror extension on the market. Short of mobile home style they aren’t worth the cost or trouble. The only style that was even close is made by Murray.

I use exactly the same rule as you for whether I use outrigger boards. Tip for the front of your deck is to put a couple of scrap tires on the edge there to let the machine climb up on the tire. It gives the track more grip & saves the deck.
So how much more width does it add with outriggers on your setup? 6" or "8?
You pickup about 10” per side. Outrigger size is fairly standard as far as width. You will see differences in the thickness of board they’re setup to use. My old 60 ton 10’ wide was setup for 3” thick boards.
Do you think it would flutter. And not leak out
It could, I noticed mine being off a bit before it actually started leaking. There are several things in the fuel supply system that could make it run less than ideal. A suction leak somewhere could do it as well and you wouldn’t necessarily see a leak. There are valves in the filter head that cause issues and even the fuel supply pump could be weak.
good info overall thank you. "nobody likes a sloppy hole"...LOL! I have a juvenile mind.
Hey can you help me out I have a issue with this code I’m trying to fix the engine speed sensor #2
Just subscribed to your channel, I relate to your work experience, my channel is similar to yours in so far as you never know what the video will be about. I wish I had video of being in downtown Miami with full size oilfield frac tanks and then getting in to the new stadium back in 2010.
I have a 17’ cat289d with 3800 hrs. Everything seems to be running good but there is a whining noise that climes from it when moving. It gets louder when I’m putting it under load such as scooping a bucket full of dirt from a pile. It goes away if I increase the throttle. Could this be a hydraulic pump that is going bad? Thank you
It could be, make sure it’s to the proper level with oil. Also make sure filters aren’t super old. Could also have a suction leak, I’ve seen the belly of them so packed full of crap you can’t see a leak but it’ll suck air and whine.
Is this South Carolina?

Watched your original video right before I started, this one showed up a year into heavy hauling myself with a 7 axle setup, once you get into oversize it all happens quick, 2 months of oversize on a 3 axle step deck then 6 weeks of a 2 axle rgn and they gave me a 3 axle I've been dragging around ever since, alot of the tricks are learned from screw ups(high centering, dropping the neck having to scale 3-4 times) but first and foremost read every single word of the permit, map the route, and invest in the heavy haul 411 book(black one). It's alot easier than people make it out to be but it goes south real quick if your not paying attention
