A fun couple with two dogs that are border terriers, documenting the beautiful country of New Zealand and their experiences with the two crazy borders called Dusty and Mali, Dusty is Mali's mum!
Border Terrier key words we use all the time with these very intelligent dogs
Border Terriers are smart little dogs, we have two sayings, one is "let sleeping dogs lie" never ever wake them up as the peace is wonderful as they sleep- and #2 "do it once and its locked in forever" - what do I mean, feed them at 4 pm and that's it they will never forget the time, give them toast and it will also never be forgotten or a cuppa tea!
Key words such as "do you..." means food, car ride, puppacino, pee, etc. "Let's go" means yahooo we are off somewhere, "wait" means something is going to happen that's fantastic so stop and wait "Show me" this one is the biggie, Mali will go to whatever he wants and with his nose either touch it or point! Dusty is teaching Mali how to protect himself, she grabs him by the back of the neck and will throw him to the ground even though he is alot bigger than her, when she has had enough she retreats to the corner. Mali loves going on a hunt for me, I hide in the pantry, behind curtains, behind doors, in wardrobes! after he has been for a walk its the big game to go searching, each day in a different spot, then I ask him if he wants a treat and to show me where the treats are. This training lets him communicate with us where something is he wants as he will point it out with his nose, he is one smart boy!

I used to use a harness because the leash wouldn't get caught in his legs as much, but it got in the way of petting him and it was a pain to take on and off.
I had to take a photo of how the harness went on as I often got it upside down! Now it’s easy but I have to admit I do think he looks at me a bit miffed if I don’t get it right!

Aww, she reminds me of Rosie alot. Rosie BT was a show dog (had one litter) and we went to the breeder to pick a puppy. The breeder asked if we would be interested in Rosie, me and Rose had a instant connection, so we took her home instead. Rosie's personality is very similar to Dusty's Rose is nearly 15 - time goes too quick!
Thats is lovely, its fun to watch Dusty train him and to look so proud when he does something too - 15 is a great age.

I think it is so cool that Mali and Dusty the mum live together. I've always thought it would be great to have a whole doggy family. Do you know anything about Mali's dad?
Hi yes Malis Dad is Basil, and Mali looks like him (in size and colour). We had a border who died and after two years we decided to get another one we contacted Dustys breeder. When we went for a visit she came running up to my husband and it was love a first sight, Dusty is a retired show champion and when the breeder saw how much she loves Mr she offered her to us when we got Mali. So special for her to get to keep one of her puppies and she still drags him around by the ears!
