When TV was good
I like this ID because it's very much of its time; a still image of a local place of interest, a bit of nice music and a very authoritative but exuberant voiceover announcer. Interesting what they did with the 2 "M's" in "COMMUNICATIONS"...
Halloween was on a Wednesday in 1984!
The UAB Knoxville collapse was an unfortunate news story! And on February 14, 1983?! Valentine's Day?! Oh, myyy! #GeorgeTakei I guess there was no love for UAB Knoxville's customers on that day! That's for sure!
greg peterson now works on WPMI TV
Suzanne Stevens move years later to WSOC-TV in Charlotte, where she was an anchor for the 5PM news.
Lived across the street from Mr and Mrs Bill Williams, great folks.
Boy! That must have been a day of tainted love for depositors at the United American Back of Knoxville! And how appropriate to identify a day that depositors of that bank would find as inappropriate. February 14, 1983! Valentine's Day! I guess there was no love for depositors from UAB that day! Imagine that!
Wow! Dr. Red Duke. I'd forgotten all about him. This was interesting viewing. I was in 6th grade when this was broadcast and I'm amazed at how familiar it all seems.
This is so awesome!! So cool to go back and see news and commercials airing 30 years ago! I was 9 when the particular newscast aired. And weirdest part is....I saw someone I know today on the newscast. Thanks for posting!
I met John Gerard at the mall.
Janeway!!!
Very upmarket look for the time.
this theme also used on The Reasoner Report in the late 70s -- but ever Southern Media doesn't have a name for it -- and alas, it is not on the Autumn Thunder CD set (NFL themes)
I remember driving through Knoxville in the mid-1980s and seeing WATE billboards reading, "Team Six. Watch us win for you."
@DerrickLee2006 The earliest production I've heard this piece on is on NFL Films' highlight film for Super Bowl V (1971).
@DerrickLee2006 I have no idea.
@Homp1000 That's her... but she wasn't an unknown at this point. She was on Ryan's Hope from it's debut in 1975 through 1977. She was also Mrs. Columbo.
At 26:45, the commercial for South Central Bell... is that Kate Mulgrew doing an ad long before anything else?
@dgendvil No. She goes by the name of Diane Bakos now.
Is Diane May married to Chris May?
