Maiden 1800MM Husky by Hobby Arrows

First flight of this 1800MM Husky Foam airplane by Hobby Arrows. I am using a 4 cell Turnigy 3300mAh Li-Po. In this particular plane the battery had to be pushed pretty much as far forward as possible to balance the airplane. This made the rear most hold down battery strap useless. The battery is still held in well with a lower hook and pile tape and a forward battery strap. In this video I had...

Still flying to this day. I get it out every few months. More and more lately, hangs in my living room in between flights.

I’m a little disappointed in the outcome, however expected after seeing the first footage of the day. Camera could have been pointed a few degrees higher. I’ll try again.

Hi Richard. And how do you rate this scale and model after time? i would like to build something cool and slow and that seems ok, i do not know if it is maneuverable and how do you rate it? You write about wing modifications, which you would still recommend, because the model seems to be very ok. what motor and propeller, battery, any other suggestions? Very cool modulation - I congratulate the courage and execution ! ! !

Derrick Sword it is a great model, I take it out flying every time I go. I was running a EFlite BL10 with a 9x6 3 cell, then switched to 4 cell and burned that motor out, now I run a Suppo BL-3520/6 with a 9x6 prop 4cell both setups I was running a 60 amp ESC. It will fly slow or fast. Has enough power to climb vertical for about 15 seconds. This model is blown up 150% from the original plans. I also built an original size with an eflite 400, 8x6 prop, 40amp esc and running 3 cell along with optional fpv mounting. If you're looking for slow it will do it, fast is there if you want it, even with some wind, under say 10mph. The best part is you can build it in 4 hours or less. I build the small version with hot glue and the larger version with foam glue. Just remember to set the esc breaking so you don't strike the free spinning prop on the ground when landing. Let me know if you need any more info, The plans are available for free on the AMA website

Thank you very much for the comprehensive info Richard. Given the size and configuration of the equipment you mentioned, do you think the start of the 100% version is ok ? The main thing is I have a problem with flying wing, ie trouble with stall and necessity I want to avoid a nightmare due to lack of space and big horizons to fly if the model has to be too fast, I am a multirotor-pilot and therefore I find it difficult to switch to emergency situations with too fast planes. And if you only recommend a smaller interior also in the second version I can use a great engine from tarot 650 which works for 4 s, but I have a fairly large battery because 5200 mah weighs 429 grams and I'm afraid it will be too heavy. You know the weight of your big model and can depend on what the battery capacity and weight is ok according to you? You have a link to the results of my wing tests (very funny) ruclips.net/video/X0MmN9DaTxg/видео.html Thanks in advance for your help Richard i aprreciate it .

Derrick Sword No problem, The large plane weights 1030grams with no battery and 1300grams with the 2400 4cell I run. The large plane will carry the 5200 you are talking about, it will just require you to put the battery farther back in the plane for CG, my battery sits 7 inches from the nose of the 4' long aircraft so you have plenty of space to get your CG (the front of your battery would sit around 10 inches from the nose with the setup I am using). You may want to switch to something slightly larger than 9gram servos if you plan on using the 5200. If you want to keep your speed down, and you have a lead thumb 😁 change the pitch on the prop. Also I didn't mention on both models I used poster board foam board and kept the paper on the outside for extra stiffness. I also cut the prop opening longer to accommodate the larger prop. I think the original scale would be a great option, You could go upwards of a 12" prop with a different motor without having to really reenforce the outside edges alongside the prop, 320-grams without the battery and 2.5' long, 1200-2400mah works good, it will allow you to see how it all goes together before you spend the time and money cutting/building the larger version. Plus it's easier to transport from place to place, and not nearly as fast. With the CG set up correctly the plane if fly at a fast walk speed with no problems, into a breeze even slower. It won't Flat spin like a wing. It's slower than the wing you lost in the video for sure but could be just about as fast if you wanted it to be. Hope that helps. I'll be watching for videos 😁
