How to revive and release a fish that goes belly up
If you’ve ever caught a fish and wanted to return it, only for it to go belly up, don’t worry. It’s likely its swim bladder that’s causing the trouble.
In this video I’ll demonstrate how to support the fish in easing its swim bladder before releasing it.

Join me, Red and Mark as we head out for cod in the Firth of Forth. After a 6.5lb cod caught by Red close in on cart wing things went quiet until the very end… In this video I’ll show you how to revive a codling that’s had its swim bladder depressurised.

Out again on the East Lothian coast looking for cod. Got some great footage of how to play a cod through multiple snags. Also on how to rest and return a fish. Decent chilled out session overall. #fishing #cod #beachfishing #codfishing #fishinglife #edinburgh #nature #outdoors #fish #cooking

Join me and Red for an evening’s fishing in East Lothian not too far from Edinburgh. We managed cod and haddock but had to fish through lots of smaller whiting and coalfish. Cart wings and squid were doing the damage this time. #fishing #cod #beachfishing #fish #outdoors #codfishing #edinburgh #fishinglife #nature

Thank you
That was good mate. Were was that shore? I see Arthur Seat. You're right on Granton though, it's got too territorial these days, somewhat like Tarbert up the Argyll way, out west, certainly with some of the Glasgow lads, though the Chinese lads are at it too. It's sad...
Great video. I am working on the same exact thing :) One thing that is helping me is focusing on the left arm only, just like it was the only arm that "you can use" in the cast :)
Yes better.....looknup when the arms are behind you.
Very good casting technique. Enjoyed the vid. Sub added!
Hi! I just moved recently to Falkirk. I used to fishing fir barbel and carp in England. It is time to learn and do something new here. Can you give me sime advice and durections where to start sea fishing with the spinning tackles please?
We’re inexperienced when it comes to spinning as well, so I think your best place for advice would be a local tackle shop
You must be aff yer chump for going down that bank 🤣
Always nice to avoid the blank! Well done for getting out as conditions haven't been great.
why can,t i find parts 1 and 3 of your casting video,s
Left harm rules feet head harms, & most important right harm.
So many different styles off casting, tournament casting completely different, I've been an instructor for many years all technique get it right you won't go wrong, took me many months to get it right.
Have you took your videos of putting braid on multipliers
I took those videos down
Nice 👍what are you planning for spring summer
Locally just mackerel, red cod and maybe pollock. Would be nice to head out West for something bigger but nothing planned yet. What about you?
Chopping still sends the bait out out! Hitting the ground with the lead does give you a mental disorder! Chop ain’t real style but a method better than 99% of casting techniques 👍 great instructional 😎
I have to the multipler at the top of the butt. Is this OK to still cast far
Top casters like Juan Hamber and Salvador Bustos do reel up. And Paul Kerry from previous decades. I don’t know the difference, just that it feels natural for me to keep the reel lower
I myself have had all the same struggles.....I cast with dj .....in NI .....good videos ....and the chop is hardest part to mental get right 😊
The backswing on your casts is rather flat (parallel to the ground). Do you think it's possible to level out the power stroke that much with a high swing pendulum cast without the sinker hitting the ground?
Ah, is my backswing flat as a symptom of my power stroke not being right? Not sure I’m getting it. Really appreciate you helping me out btw I think I’m approaching a dead end trying to teach myself
@@dongle_dangler No, your cast doesn't look wrong by any means. Just saying that when the lead is swinging around lower to the ground, it's probably easier to drop the tip and get that nice wide arc in the cast. I was wondering if you thought high swing pendulum casters are especially prone to chopping the cast, and how they can avoid that.
@@carolinasurfcastersassociation ah that’s interesting, I’d love to get the tip lower to make it feel more like an off the ground cast. Will give it a go. I was watching a video of Dave Docwra casting and he does just what you describe
Chopping the cast is generally a result of a poor set up, keeping the right arm straight and away from your body should help.
right arm m8 head up
right arm?
your bending right arm m8 not a lot but still a chop keep head up 45 degrees .it will just click slow it all down then hit it@@dongle_dangler
Keep your right arm still stop moving it back when the led swings back in think of a fulcrum then out with the left bit more it will create the arc then wait a lot longer for that led to come on the out side of the tip …Left arm to high keep left arm inline with your chin pull more with your left and tuck it in to your ribs at the end of the cast squat more with your legs use those hips
Thanks Codhed I appreciate the tips!
Djrmonix Steve is a top bloke but casts flat arc so different style to the traditional pendulum. You still coming off your heels also you seem to heave the lead with your body on the inswing instead of pushing out and away with your right hand to generate lead speed . Don't concentrate on distance your last cast was 5-6 seconds airtime which is good with full mags on your getting there just sort ya feet out good content 👍
Thanks John I appreciate the advice!
Getting the left arm out and bringing the rod round the side gives you a bigger arc more led speed and time to pull on the left arm Keep at it
getting there keep it up
Are you fishing braid all the time mate? Thanks.
Yeah for cod fishing I prefer around 40-50lb powerpro braid. Its 4 strand so seems to be fine rubbing some kelp and comes off the multiplier nicely. Then a 80lb asso ultraflex mono leader, FG knot
@@dongle_dangler What reel do you use? I'm literally moving over to braid on my multipliers next time I go out so I am doing as much research as possible.
I’m using a penn fathom II casting special in the videos
Hello mate. Will there be any new content soon?
Hi Jamie, I’m just dusting off the lure gear. Hope to be out again soon
Where about is this?
Hey, this is East Lothian. I can’t tell you the exact mark, but any rocky headland sticking out into the Forth would fish in similar conditions
Appreciate marks remain tight lipped but can you advise if this is fife side or are we Edinburgh side? Close to the forth Bridge for example
Hey, all my videos are on the Edinburgh side 👍
Agreed good to see a Scottish channel and great videos
These size 9 Italian loafers will make short work of that squid.
Hahaha yeah, the soft leather should hold the most scent. Good if you want to start an argument back home
