Just because a relationship doesn't last that doesn't mean there wasn't love there at the beginning. I think he loved her very much when they married. He wrote beautiful songs for her, especially "Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother, Wife," which he wrote for their wedding, and "Let's Have a Baby," which talks about his wanting a family with her. I don't think anyone could write songs that tender for someone they didn't love. They were together longer than any of his other relationships--almost 10 years altogether. They suffered a terrible tragedy, and the relationship ended, but I do believe that he loved her. Maybe not forever, but like he says in "Empty Room," "love is strong, however long."

Some of these photos are not from happy times. The one at 3:31 was taken in 1999 when they were separated. Steve Parke, the photographer, said they ran into each other in a club, and he took this photo when he saw them talking together. It's a sweet photo, but a sad time. The one at 3:49 was also taken by Steve Parke and was during the time when Prince was trying to get Mayte to agree to an annulment. The one at 4:48 is one of the last, if not the last picture of the two of them. Prince took the photo but cut himself out of it. Mayte says in her book that you can see her sadness in this photo. I think he loved her very much when they married. But it didn't last. That doesn't mean that the love wasn't real though, at least at the beginning.

He was absolutely a big FOOL for doing Mayte the way he did her. He never got love right. But the happiest he ever was, was when he was with Mayte.
