epic stuff my friend
I only just found out. RIP bob, you were there for a coffee every morning for 6 years and one of the kindest people I had ever met
Bob, we will never forget his kindness and a true man of his word
Is this place for sale?
not that i am aware of? we are looking for a new suitable location / option
Thanks for the update !
No problem 👍
Such a shame, this track pulled massive crowds, spent 20 years there as a spectator. Still a market for it in my opinion
yes still a market but now trying to find new options and a new location to go again
I live like 2 houses away, I was wondering what the smell of smoke was
It was huge and many people were all watching from across the street.
Oh the good ol' days.
yes we had some fun as the murray bridge commentary team thats for sure trev.
Oh wow, great work Paris, we will never forget Rob Wacka Stevens. RIP my friend.
Thanks Trev, a man who loved Speedway and in return, we loved him also
you know that they will ever bring it back
Do you know that they'll ever bring it back
sadly so but we are always looking and working on new options and locations, etc
R.I.P .. Parramatta City Raceway, 1977-2020
It was a very special place.
@@Paris_Charles Yes mate, it most certainly was. I have many fond memories of the place going back to the late 1970s and early 1980s.
My uncle sang in one of the commercials for sprintcar racing early 90's I believe: "Sprintcar racing.. take it to the top, sprint car racing.. the action never stops".
That's so cool, do u have a copy of the song?
@@Paris_Charles Im trying my hardest to find it on youtube. it was for the racing here in Adelaide. there was a female backup singer in the song belting out very powerful backing vocals. the clip would be 30secs to maybe a minute and a bit..
@@scottmark5345 I heard it! I've heard it!! Definitely, and on RUclips, but ya' know, I'm certain that it was on a commercial from Claremont Speedway in Perth. It was a good old, hard rockin" tune. Yep, I've definitely heard it.
@Paris_Charles By bloody Crikey, I wish I could have been there. Have a look at some of those beautiful beasts. I think that the Sprintcar reached its apotheosis of design features in the years between 1978-1988. That, for my money, would have to be when the most "pleasing" ascetics were produced, like the Stanton's, Trossels, Gamblers, Felsch, all those beautiful old (now) Sprintcars. But I go back further than that, to a time when all "Sprintcar Racing" was in Australia was "Modified Sprintcar Association" it was right there in the name, these things were actually often built by the bloke that raced them.
@@frenzalrhomb6919 I snagged it as a video and converted it to mp3 ill give it to my Uncle next time I see him. He was a singer in the 70, 80s, 90s and had lot of connections in the day - DJ's (hes still friends with a well known one here in SA who comes to our family functions every now and again). He was friends with Bon Scott back in the day hes from that generation- friends and toured with the top Aussie singers and bands.
What to be Sprint Car driver in a water truck!
speed and top heavy
I spent days and weeks over there welding when I was between jobs and when sprint car based people got into office all BIKE PEOPLE GOT SHAFTED! My name is ANTHONY JAMES HEIN! I raced Sidecars piss off go back to your Speedway City you Sprint Car Cattle Ticks!
Something tells me that you don't have much time for Sprintcar Politics? Because that's what it comes down to. They see more bums on seats at a Sprintcar meeting and then their palms start to get itchy for that "filthy Luca" coming in the gates, and then you get a few of them on the committee, and before you know, the bikes get sidelined for the Sedan/Speedcar/Sprintcar mix at the meetings.
I am so sorry to hear this happened to you and also other bike people. Speedway City is no longer an active track and the land has been sold. Please feel free to watch some of my other videos to see what is left of Speedway City.
RIP Robbie
Oh no. It feels like the end of an era. R.I.P old mate, and it's "left turn all the way to Heaven"
we will miss wacka, but we will never forget him
I remember the water wagon rolled at Liverpool speedway i think Franks brother broke his arm.
The club has invested a lot of time and money into the upgrades. It's a shame that Made to go has put admission up so much when people are struggling to make ends meet..
Hi Peter, I am unaware of the prices for this season, would you like to share admission costs please?
@@Paris_Charles club show to watch up on viewing deck cost me $40.00. Speed week will cost $55.00. Next weekend is the same both nights. No wonder there weren't many people there for the opening night.
@@petergreen9564 thank you letting me and others know the price has increased
Thank you, it was a great experience and I hope my video gives people happy memories 😊
Great work Paris
very kind :)
Hey Paris, back a couple of years ago there was a Facebook page and a bloke that was starting to clean up the speedway to have burnouts/ re open there once again. Then the updates stopped and the page was deleted. Do you know anything about this?
hi yes, sadly, it did not get off the ground, too many council regulations blocked the plans
@ typical councils
did u have to get allowance to go onto the track, ive always wanted to go back and have a look around but dont wanna get in trouble for doing so
Hi Sam, I did ask for permission.
Lots of memories there Paris thank you
Happy to help
This car has been sold to a Victorian Speedway team.
This car has now been sold and is now being rebuilt by its new owners.
Where the hell is video of the action all we got was a photo gallery
Maybe you need to go to the next meeting.
Sorry I just did photos. I invite you next season to come and do the video :)
Thanks Paris 💪🏁
Glad you enjoyed the video. 😊
Miss our car scene down here :( I cant justify a 4 hr round trip to just see some street cars go down the 1/4 I really hope we get our speedway back and AIR too.... But i think we all know its dusted sadly. Thanks for the video mate, great work.
I hope so too and thank you for the kind words, I hope you enjoy my page. I believe it is important to keep the memories and history alive :)
These were great days at Macs, sadly now it’s just a junk yard, and was recently up for sale.
such a shame to hear, it was a good venue when i visited. thank you for the update.
As much as I love this vid of the Men and Women who ran this great race track in Adelaide it gives me a real knot in the stomach that we as race fans of the Great Speedway Park (City) will never see this again. Great job Paris and keep up with memories👍
thank you for your kind words, I will try to keep the videos coming. Im just not sure what people what to see next?
Fantastic Video Paris, if it wasn’t for Volunteers we wouldn’t have Motorsport events to enjoy, and this place was the best!!
thank you.
That track needs to be raced on so bad buy the looks of things wat a cool lookn track
it was a great place to visit, i can only hope somebody with passion buys the venues and rebuilds it better than it ever was.
Man they should repurpose it to an RC Car place with multiple tracks or motor cross or something.
Would love to see something done with the venue
Thats a shame had good memories in the 80s &90s as a kid growing up now looks like beyond thunderdome really sad
It would make an amazing movie set for a mad Max/ thunderdome type movie
I miss it. I was a junior when it closed. Prime location for a modern track.
Who are you and what Junior Sedan did you drive?
@@Paris_Charles Jesse Arthur, 5 and 10, but you should know that haha
Don't know why some super rich ex drivers don't invest in it and give something back to the sport that served them so well during the halcyon years. Its bullshit that fine complex is just sitting there rotting away. It does not look that far gone to me and would take less effort to restore than build a new one i would suggest. Dam shame
Would love to see someone do something to carry Speedway in Adelaide forward
I spent my summer Friday nights growing up at Speedway Park in the 80s. I honestly can not believe what I am seeing 😢😭
Speedway was a part of our family, growing up as a kid I did the exact same.
@@Paris_Charles Mate, the unfortunate thing about this video, is that it explains nothing as to the, what, where, when or how this absolute debacle came about in the first place. OK, I get it, you're not an "investigative journalist" doing a 4 Corners story. But some explanation as to why it came to this might have got me interested in the issue . . And in watching part two.
my dad holds the formula 500 20 lap record there. he got it on my 3rd birthday
That's awesome, who is your dad and when was the record set?
@@Paris_Charles Steve James, it was on the 20/2/2010
The last time i was there early 2000's the lady in front of us copped a nasty black eye from a big chunk of flying clay off the track , never forget it !
Sometimes unfortunate accidents happen when you least expect 😢
@@Paris_Charles FYI , all members of the group I was in were wearing safety glasses 😁
Just a dam shame. What a waste
some have tried but sadly no progress
Very sad
🏁🏁
Heartbreaking
Awesome 🎉
Thank you :)
@Paris_Charles no worries mate
That looks like a cool track they need to re open it
A true gentleman R.I.P BILL😊
He sure was, we are thankful for the memories, RIP Bill 'The Wizard' Wigzell
@Paris_Charles Thanks so much for this tribute to Bill Wigzell. I didn't get to see much of him as I'm Sydney born and bred, but he was a real legend in the sport we all love. So once again, thanks so much for your kind and thoughtful tribute.
🏁🏁
thank you
I came from the U.S. in 2015/16 to go to races there, along with several other tracks in AU. Surprised to hear that it closed.
Do you have any memories or photos you would like to share, always love to hear other people's stories
@@Paris_Charles As a traveler to Australia, I didn't know what to expect to come across at the tracks. Here in the States, the vast majority of tracks have grandstands or bleacher seating, and any left over grassy area would be for overflow crowds. Australia seems to be the opposite. I paid the $5 for the stands at Premier, but got to Speedway City a little late and sat in the grass, near turn one. Fortunately, a nice lady behind me offered the spare camping chair besides her, since the occupant was in the pits. If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy a camping chair right off and donate it on my departure. Side note: My AirBnb host let me use hers for Murray Bridge Speedway and Gilman Speedway. I have a fond memory of sitting next to a local at Murray Bridge and trying hard to work my way through the Aussie slang he was using. I loved it, met a lot of great people in Australia.
Greed killed this track
Great race track loved coming over from perth to race there
Do you have any memories or photos you would like to share, always love to hear other people's stories
Looking at the track on Google Earth the other day. One of the big light towers near turn 3 is lying on the ground with the 4 lights still attached. Looks like no video yet in that area between turns 3 and 4 and across the bridge where the bridge is near the pits.
Hi, turn 3 and possibly 4 / the pit gate will be in my next video which will be part 6 Thanks for taking the time to investigate further on google earth
Failed due to lack of spectators
@@jogguys because in its last infancy it was run dreadfully.
