Montreal to Tofino: Driving the Trans-Canada Highway 🇨🇦
This documentary film shows you what it's like to drive from Montreal to Vancouver Island along the famous Trans Canada highway.
The story of this trip is the story of a severe toe infection -- of hiking grand mountains -- of a pilgrimage to the west.
Day 1 brought us form Montreal (Quebec) to Thunder Bay (Ontario). Day 2 was from Thunder Bay to Moosomin (Saskatchewan). Day 3 was from Moosomin to Calgary (Alberta). Day 4 was from Calgary to Banff (Alberta). Day 5 was from Banff to Vernon, BC (British Columbia). Day 6 was from Vernon to Vancouver (well, Richmond). Day 7 was from Vancouver to Tofino on Vancouver Island. We stayed for a while near Vernon to do some incredible hiking, and we s...

I got hit by a car...
Просмотров 1498 месяцев назад
I wrote a short story about what happened, you can read it below, or on the following link: theconcordian.com/2019/10/a-collision-on-the-path-of-life/ I woke up for my 10:45 class and hurriedly started making breakfast - an egg-salad sandwich, an unusual breakfast that started off a truly unusual day. I left my house with around 20 minutes to arrive to class; I had a 25-minute bike ride to go. ...
New Zealand's BEST Day Hike: Queenstown Must-Do 🇳🇿
Просмотров 4808 месяцев назад
In this video, a couple German friends and I hike Ben Lomond. This is the gem of Queenstown, a truly spectacular hike that is easily accessible from hostels and hostels in Queenstown. This hike includes 1438m of elevation gain and is challenging. At the summit, you stand at an elevation of 1748m with 360 degree of the surrounding ranges. The journey is a 6-8 hour return trip. At the top you can...
Getting Lost in the Woods...
Просмотров 3268 месяцев назад
In this video, I share my story getting lost in the woods, the wilderness, the forest, the sticks, the booneys, whatever you want to call it. I talk about the psychology of getting lost in the woods, the feelings of terror, fear, anxiety, horror even. Yet I bring up the practical mindset that one falls into there is only one solution. The solution? Getting out of the woods. Getting un-lost, one...
Village Life in the Indian Himalayas: Rasol Trek 🇮🇳
Просмотров 5019 месяцев назад
In this episode of Onwards & Upwards, my friends and I hike up to the surreal and serene mountain village of Rasol. We start our hike in Kasol (near Manali in the state of Himachel Pradesh), and our destination is Rasol. We pass by the Parvati River along the way (we are in the Parbati valley after all), as well as the town of Chalal. In the Indian Himalayas (well, the Indian lesser Himalayas),...

17:17 For those wondering what's what in this shot, front & center, we have Elkhorn. The high, distant blue peak just to the left is the Golden Hinde. Dropping straight down from the Hinde to the peak just behind Elkhorn is Mt. Colwell, which features the tallest rock wall in the country, and remains unclimbed. To the right of Elkhorn is Rambler, and to the right of that is Colonel Foster, sitting above Berg lake.

10:54 - That's the spot to camp. When I hiked this the plan was to camp on the ridge, then summit the following day and pack out. The weather forecast changed for shit for day 2, so we decided to grunt all the way to summit and back to camp on the ridge on the first day. Absolutely the toughest day hike I've ever done. Made for the most delicious beers we had chillin' in the snow at camp though! 9 AM start, summit around 7 PM, back to camp around 9 PM. It was much snowier when I went, and the established trail was buried. I found myself in a few precarious situations. That gully that connects the bowl to the ridge was full of frozen hard-pack snow. Even at 2 PM, you couldn't stab the toe of your boot into it, so we were forced to go around (left side). Closer to the top of it, we were forced into it, which was a 10 foot deep moat barely wide enough to walk through. Now my idiot buddy decided it would be smart to try boot skiing down that the following morning. He took off way ahead of me, and I didn't know what he was up to. When I was out of the moat and back into the trees, I had a slip on the dry hemlock needles, and strained my knee. Meanwhile, idiot was sliding to his doom on that ice, pawing at the tree tops as he whizzed by, finally managed to grab one and ripped his shoulder out. Good times! A little below the basin, my knee decided it wasn't going to bend anymore. Awesome! I had to lead every step with my straight leg all the way down. When we got to the powerline crossing, I quit. I threw buddy the truck keys, and told him to go 4x4 the powerline trail and come and get me. Yeah, that was a one-and-done hike for this guy.

Not only are you cooking right beside your tent but you’re cooking meat right beside your tent. Major fail! It’s ignorant, stupid behaviour like this that gets bears and other wildlife killed as they become habituated to human food.

Not all leeches suck blood. Seems most that live in lakes around the US, even if attached to your body, is more out of their curiosity rather than wanting to eat. These types usually eat fish eggs or even plant matter.
