Tahuna Torea Nature Reserve
Tahuna Torea nature reserve
Tahuna Torea nature reserve is located on New Zealand's North Island,
at Wai o Taiki bay on the banks of the Tamaki river close to Glendowie.
The car park is at the bottom of West Tamaki road. All the tracks is about
7km combined and will take roughly 2 hrs starting from the car park,
just note that the track from Cable Beacon Point to the spit is only
accessible during low tide.
The Tamaki river is tidal, so best views will be during high tide,
at low tide... you can expect quite a dramatic change in scenery.
But low tide also creates a whole different experience when a long
sand bank extending out into the Tamaki Estuary opens up towards
Bucklands Beach. And its...

    Toka-Toka peak is named after family on my Grand dads mother's side, they were master carvers back in the day. My Grandfather was the publican at the Ruawai pub for many years until he passed away in 1975. At the 4-minute mark of this video, the hill at the bottom next to the river is an old ancient burial ground. When I was a child, there used to be a lot more bush, my Nanna and Grandfather used to do a lot of hunting and fishing around these parts, all the way up to Tinopai. I haven't been back home for a visit in four decades, thank you Adian you made me home sick.

    How are the seals holding up after a few years?

    • @adianvanderwalt6329
      @adianvanderwalt6329 2 года назад

      Hi there, not too bad I guess, the glue on some of the seals came loose and I had to re-apply double sided tape, those corner pads also came loose at some point, those I glued back with silicone which worked much better for me. As I still have the soft tonneau cover fitted with the floppy bit on the rear, as in the video, I still get dust in that way, but I have found the 2 big culprits from where the most dust comes from now... firstly, I found there were no plastic cover above the rear wheels causing dust, sand and water been thrown up by the wheels into the cavity which then ends up inside the tub. I fixed this by making fiberglass covers that sorted that out. Secondly, I found that the water drain on the tub's floor now lets in most of the dust. This is on the floor way back against the cab, the corrugated floor stops about 2mm from the rear wall, that is where it lets water flow out, but in turn, a lot of dust comes in there. My plan now is to seal the whole tub's inside with Raptor coat or similar product and then get a canopy and find a way to create positive pressure inside canopy. That should then sort the dust issue :-)

    • @frostilicus4300
      @frostilicus4300 2 года назад

      @@adianvanderwalt6329 thanks for the heads up. I ordered a kit and before it comes i will make some brakets to fix those corner pieces to permanently using the bolt below, instead of waiting for the glue to fail. As for the tub, my liner is 1 solid piece so i shouldn't have those issues but I will see next time i go offroad. Thanks for video and your reply, it has helped heaps

I recall the start of the walkway to be nice and even, but became steap when turning towards the falls with lots of leaves on the path making it a bit slippery too and think there were a few rocks to navigate along the track, I think it should be possible if you have 2 strong individuals front and back of the chear, and depending on their confidence to control and pick the chair up over rocky parts, it should be doable, I do think it bacome a bit rocky/slopey near the viewing platform that will be challenging.

    Wow great and both heart warming and heart wrenching. Knowing you're going to start a new life and the same time leave your whole life and family behind. But mindset yes! Determination and commitment. Glad you mentioned NZ migration and makes me feel more comfortable too.Im also with them currently still in stage 1. And taken up their offer of their recruitment dept to assist finding work. I hit so many dead ends and got gatvol of fighting a losing battle on my own and then decided to go through an agent. Lastly.. CONGRATULATIONS! on your NZ citizenship and a prosperous bright future for your kids. You no longer have to be a 2nd class citizen in your country of birth.

    Hi there, congratulation on the citizenship. I’ve also applied for citizenship since December 2020, however still no responses from DIA. How long did your application take to get approval and then how long extra till ceremony? Thanks

      Hi mate, ours was relatively fast, just a couple of months, BUT keep in mind ours were done way back in mid 2019, total different story now I've heard, I am no expert, just what I hear people say, backlogs at immigration and people mentioning delays with citizenship applications too

      @@adianvanderwalt6329 thanks 🙏 for your kind response. I’ve just looked it up, the official processing timeframe has been changed again to 7-12months. Holy moly DIA. Back in December, it was 3-5 months. I wonder what DIA is doing while the numbers of applications last year and this year continues to drop. Poor me, glad that you guys got this done fast. 🎉

      Yup, back when that was still possible, the rules are totally different now. Best will be to consult an immigration advisor

      Kia ora, this tree is alive, I am from this beautiful land, the forest is called Waipoua, this is the home for tane mahuta, he is the tree that gave us the breath of life and bought light to our land/ earth. So much stories ran through this place and I had the honor of being blessed with them, which grew me closer to my culture, my tribe and my people. This forest is majestic. Never enter the forest when the mist is falling too, it's when the fairies of the forest come out.
