Another great vocab word that is used a lot in the U.S. We also use this in the corporate world, for the exact reasons you stated. Sometimes you just need to get the job done, and although it may not be the "ideal" solution, a makeshift solution can get you across the finish line!
Absolutely! It’s such a useful word in so many situations, especially when you need a quick fix to get things done. A makeshift solution can definitely be a lifesaver, whether it's at work or just in everyday life. Thanks for sharing that perspective!
I think you're actually wrong cause not everyone in the US pronounces the same..
@kfjdhfkjahhkajlsad That's true that it's pronounced differently, as I mentioned in my comment earlier, but that doesn't make it wrong. Her pronunciation is the most common version for proper (UK) English. We have many words like this in English.
Great lesson! As a native speaker, I never really gave thought to how many sounds this single vowel has! 👏
Thanks! Glad you found it interesting hehe. By the way, the vowel E is coming up next-hope you enjoy that one too! 😂
Sound #1: Short 'A' - /æ/ Keep your mouth open slightly, and push your tongue towards the bottom of your mouth, so the sound comes from the front. Sound #2: Long 'A' - /eɪ/ To make the /eɪ/ sound, start with your mouth slightly open, and then close it a little as you push the sound forward. It almost glides from an 'eh' sound to 'ee,' ending with a slight movement. Sound #3: Schwa 'A' - /ə/ Keep your mouth and lips neutral-just let the sound come out without any stress. Sound #4: Broad 'A' - /ɑ/ Open your mouth wider, let your tongue stay relaxed, and push the sound down into your throat a bit. Sound #5: Short O - /ɒ/ (or /ɔ/ in British) To make this sound, round your lips slightly, and let the sound come from the back of your mouth.
Debut, mmm I looked up in Cambridge dictionary , it says the stress is on d…
In British English, 'debut' is stressed on the first syllable (/ˈdeɪ.bju/), but in American English, the stress is on the second syllable (/deɪˈbju/). Since I’m using the American pronunciation here, both are valid depending on the region 🙂☺
@Easy-PeasyEnglish88 that is correct. We accent the 2nd syllable.
Just a quick correction: I made a typo earlier-'Beneciary' should be 'Beneficiary.' My bad! Thanks to those who pointed it out, and I’ll make sure to double-check next time! 😊
"Beneciary"? Really?
Yah - good catch - typo. I bed the video editor doesn't have spellcheck.
Ah, 'beneficiary'... I must've been in a rush! Thanks for the sharp eye-I'll make sure to double-check next time.
@@jeffdowning9777 Yep, true-typo, my bad!
Coupon is a funny one. Where I am from, we pronounce it like: Q-pon
That's so interesting! We Filipinos say Q-pon too, actually 🤣 It's funny how pronunciation can vary so much. Thanks for sharing! 😊
One I use a lot is "deuces" :)
Deuces? I’m sure a lot of people haven’t come across that one yet! It’d be awesome if you could share a bit more about when and how you use it-We always love learning new phrases!
Yes I do... many 😂 You nailed it again! The final suggestions at the end are what you will hear most often in the U.S. Great video!
Wow! 😁 I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks for the feedback! 😁🤗
❤
Great advice! It's better to believe the best until proven wrong 👏👏👏
Thanks, @jeffdowning9777! Exactly, it's always good to assume the best first. It helps keep things fair and positive until we have a reason to think otherwise!
Use all of them.
Thanks for your response! As a native speaker, are there any other "put" phrasal verbs you’d suggest English learners check out? 😁
@@Easy-PeasyEnglish88 "Put down" - can mean to insult or also to euthanize an animal.
@@jeffdowning9777 That’s a great one! It’s interesting how “put down” can have such different meanings depending on the context. English phrasal verbs are full of surprises! 😁
❤
"put off" can also mean that something made you feel weird or uneasy. "I was put off by that guy's scent".
Great point! 😊 'Put off' can definitely describe feeling uneasy or weirded out by something. Thanks for sharing! Keep the awesome comments coming! 👍

Easy
I’m glad you found the quiz easy! If you have suggestions for more challenging content, feel free to share :)
You can most certainly answer: Yes, I have one or Yes, I do have a pen or Yes, I have a pen. STOP SPREADING MISINFORMATION
@joejoe2587 Thank you for your comment! You are correct that "Yes, I have one" and "Yes, I do have a pen" are also acceptable responses in English. In my video, I focused on the most straightforward responses, "Yes, I do" and "No, I don't," to emphasize the use of the correct auxiliary verb for beginners. As an ESL teacher, I find that consistency in using "do" and "don't" helps learners build a strong foundation in English verb usage. While native speakers might use various forms naturally, it's crucial for learners to start with the basics. Additionally, the examples provided are meant to serve as a reference for similar contexts, helping learners apply the same structure in different situations. I appreciate your input and will consider including more variations in future videos to provide a comprehensive understanding. Thank you for helping us all learn better!
@@Easy-PeasyEnglish88 This actually helps. I didn't know how to explain that to students until I found your video. Thank you!
@@dolcex2 I’m really happy to hear that the video helped you with your students! 😊 As a fellow ESL teacher, I know how tricky some topics can be to explain, but you're doing an amazing job by seeking out new ways to support your learners. Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing your feedback! 👏✨
