I have it set at what the book calls for, for that year of 350 V8 should I Advance it you think?
Start with 0 degrees TDC,work your way up usually when it produces as much vacuum as it can at idle,that should be your correct timing in degrees. Usually around 5 deg TDC works with no power adders IE: intake,headers, carb. For each power adder add 5 deg to TDC.

Well when I tore into this when I found out that the rocker panels have been replaced already once in its life as well as the rear cab corners so yeah it's seen a rusty life that's for sure
I grew up in Chevys but those 73-79 models of any car Ford Dodge. They made beautiful cars and trucks but they really skimped on metal quality. I had a 77 Firebird. I got it in 85. 8yrs old and you could drag your feet on ground from the seat. Keep posting on your truck I hope you have her up and driving soon.
