Samson Q9U USB/XLR Mic Review (Comparisons - Q7x, Q2U)
This mic’s noise floor was so bad via fethead xlr that I had to switch to the USB version as well for the tests to see if it had a saving grace.
Did it?

Do you think this is the best option on the market for detachable mics? Also why does your mic test sound so less bass heavy and muffled compared to another video, there's a video for the ATGM2 and it sounds completely different to this. Also, how do you think this mic sounds best? What additional things should I buy do you reckon?

No, it isn’t the best option (at the time). The ATGM2 (at that time) sounded better than the Antlion ModMic at the time. Due to the sort of headphones I was using at the time and my experience with placement and how I’d like to be, it did sound a bit clearer but it does sound better than the extremely bass heavy ModMic Uni. Since the ATMG2 has been discontinued, I can’t recommend it at the time. For the current market, I don’t have a better recommendation other than a good pair of headphones and a mic whether it be usb/xlr. I still stand by the Antlion ModMic 4 Uni as being the clearest sounding detachable mic - but that is discontinued as well. Everyone’s voice sounds different and in how they’d like theirs to sound, but this video is old and my experiences and opinions have changed. I am planning to do a Antlion ModMic 4 Uni and the newest Modmic Uni review videos and I could add an ATGM2 review and compare them side to side, but since the ModMic 4 and ATGM2 have been discontinued - it would be more of like a nostalgia video. On the current market, detachable mics seem to bass heavy or "noise cancelling omnidirectional” which the omnidirectional sounds better, but omnidirectional isn’t noise cancelling. So the best bet is headphones and a mic and/or hold onto the ModMic 4 Uni if you still have it. Hope this helped. Sincerely, nerbware

@@nerbware Hey mate for some reason my other comment got deleted. I still can purchase the ATGM2 today, as on amazon Australia it is still in stock (4 left!). I understand that getting a standalone mic such as the SHURE mics would sound alot better, but I'm looking for a small and convenient boom mic such as the ATGM2 or Modmic's. Now, I here alot of discussion about the Modmic Uni, but why don't I ever hear talk about the Modmic USB? At this point I have no idea on what mic to get. Given that I can still purchase the ATGM2, what do you think my move should be?

@@samtheham3187 Depends on what you’re connecting to and what sounds more convenient - I think the Modmic USB is fine for that. The Modmic UNI is boomier/bassier than the ATGM2, but the ATGM2 is NOT magnetic, so you have to pull it out and snap it on every time you use it.
