The broadcasting was too calm and reassuring and that caused many victims. After 2011 when a strong earthquake strucks, the broadcatsers speak with a louder tone and a big red text appears on the screen saying: “THERE IS A TSUNAMI, ESCAPE!”
They aren't panicking as-is, more than likely, due to the noise and severity of the shakes they had to scramble to keep the station running. Also you can hear that one of the guys is screaming up to date info to the news anchor and in the last clip when everything is calm, there is still people also communicating info out loud to that anchor too.
This didn’t just impact Japan. The Tsunami moved across the pacific. Tsunami warnings were issued for the State of Hawaii, and the West coast of the United States a few hours after the earthquake struck
If the earthquake is more than Shindo 5+ they start this chime to connect all existing NHK channels to the one which is telling about the earthquake and possibly tsunamis. That beeps in tsunami warnings open the TVs, radios and other stuff to warn about tsunamis.
@@sadoshima118 They also use it for other emergency broadcasts: someone taped the death announcement of Emperor Shōwa (aka Hirohito) in 1989 and it uses the same tone
0:07 : 「緊急地震速報です。強い揺れにご注意ください」
2:07 I'm impressed by how much that camera held up and kept a signal in such heavy shaking.
1:31 does anyone know what sound that is thats playing as the footage changed to news?
0:05 red alert israel?
Anyone knows what does the line mean?
White and red line = huge tsunami alert. Red line: Tsunami alert. Yellow line: Tsunami warning

This is oddly eerie, the calm atmosphere in this footage before one of (if not) the record breaking natural disaster happens. This genuinly scares me.

I remember when this happened my neighbours told me to turn on the there’s an earthquake in Japan
okay, this is really dumb question but what is the font you’re using for a majority of the video? I recognize it from an old game i used to play.
14 years later and that Tsunami warning still sends chills down my bones
Here in Peru there was an alert of stunami right after the earthquake ended in japan
i think it's kinda poetic that the alarm started as NHK is still broadcasting the events in the national diet
Much better translation, thank you!
They expected 6m tsunami, what came was 2-4 times higher. No wonder so many people lost their lives
4:22 "北海道太平洋沿岸中部" should be "The central part of Pacific coast of Hokkaido"
You can hear the other people panicking in the background but that guy is still talking about the earthquake

Mostly all the people in that studio have never felt a magnitude 9.0 earthquake in their lives. This was a once in a lifetime event even for Japan.
1:55 where was this recorded?
it was aoba, sendai city
No way he replied to himself
@@JohannesKalelPerez i translated it after finding out it gave the location info

As a chilean, i actually respect Japan people
Yep, a few marinas on the US West Coast were destroyed
Americans once again making everything all about themselves 😴
Oh right, I remember we evacuated in my city cause it is close to the sea
1:32 Earthquake Chime
That’s not it. That’s to connect all NHK channels to the Newsroom
1:32 What’s that LIDL chime for
