Jonathan Joel The cool thing about a 5 string Violin is that you can play Cello Music in its original Key (but an Octave Higher), such as the Bach 6 Cello Suites or even the Brahms 1st Cello Sonata. It has fret lines so you can see where to put your fingers when you play music.
For sure! Great idea about playing some cello rep on the 5 string! Do you have a fretted one? Also would love to try that CodaBow Joule!

Hi, thanks for the video. Wondering if you had any advice on getting frets vs phantom frets. Do the phantom frets help?
Hey there! Great to hear from you...it's taking some time getting used to them. I like the visual reinforcement for intonation which is why I initially got the phantom frets. Personally I feel like raised frets might hinder my playing depending on the kind of music I'm performing. Don't feel like they're totally necessary but it is nice to have!

How do the frets affect intonation? Are they accurate?
Great question! They’re basically there for aesthetics since they’re not raised, but I’ve noticed the notes are somewhere in between the frets generally. I could see how it would be helpful in more of a rock setting where you can’t hear everything super clear and it’s nice to have that visual reinforcement!

So the Viola bow is a bit heavier than a violin bow...it helps give it some extra grit and weightier sound! Definitely a personal preference thing :) Thanks for asking! :)

I love your performance! And in this Behind the scenes one it was cool to see a glimpse of what went into it. I am very excited to hear you perform more hymns! I grew up with my mom and dad loving to sing in German and in English hymns every chance we can get. She still sits at the piano every Sunday morning , 9:00 on the dot, and plays from our old hymnal. Sometimes my siblings that live near by just show up to join her. The old hymns have so many excellent verses of Our LORD.
That's so cool Jeanette! What a great memory to have, and love to hear how you grew up singing hymns in English AND German-wow! Those verses definitely stay with you over the years and offer encouragement in times of need. Thanks for sharing!
