Why Monsters Vs. Aliens is an Underrated Gem
I didn't think much about how clever this one is until I recently re-watched it. It's full of great writing and great humor; and though I wish the villain had been better I think that it should be a DreamWorks classic for years to come.
Verse of the Video:
"You divided the sea by your might; you broke the heads of the sea monsters on the waters."
Psalm 74:13

I was late to the party, but finally watched the show, and was amazed by the brilliant character writing and storytelling in this show. Come along with me as we dive into the world of Arcane, and explore how the screenwriters wrote some of their iconic characters! Verse of the Video...
What Makes Zootopia SO GOOD?
Просмотров 9 тыс.Год назад
Until I re-watched Zootopia recently, I never gave it enough credit for it's storytelling, writing, and character building. Jump in with me as I try and put into words why this movie is so dear to so many people. Also, Michael Giacchino is a genius. Change my mind. And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the gro...
How Bad Writing DOOMED the Narnia Franchise
Просмотров 13 тыс.Год назад
A combination of directorial changes, bad acting, and ultimately, poor writing ultimately DOOMED the live-action Narnia series that Disney started in the early 2000s. To say that 'Voyage of the Dawn Treader' was a GOOD movie would be a stretch. I admit, I am awfully fond of the first two though. :) Thanks, Andrew Adamson, keep up the good work, big fella. Make sure to like this video and subscr...

Why Over the Garden Wall is GENIUS Storytelling
Actually the characters seem to resemble the characters Frodo and Samwise to some extent
Tbh I think narnia could've done with a series of unfortunate events treatment. The first two movies are fine and stand up well enough but they probably should have found a way to write multiple books into a cohesive story after that kinda like how series of unfortunate events combined I think 5 books into 1 film (not talking about Netflix show I'm referring to the OG with Jim Carrey) You may disagree I get it but they probably could've kept all the characters and told a better story as a whole for it Or possibly just do a 2 movie series and make the ending to Prince Caspian be more of a finale
Holiday Armadillo slander shall not be tolerated.
Lack of Tilda Swinton... That killed Narnia for me XD Honestly, Jadis was the best thing about that whole franchise.
I know it's a seven part book series but I always felt 'The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe' was a perfect standalone story, and if I understand correctly it was supposed to be, so that explains a lot. I think the first film stands perfectly on it's own as an awesome fairytale of kids finding a secret passageway to a magical land, (much like Alice In Wonderland, or The Nutcracker). Prince Caspain has interesting ideas and some cool sequences and I like Ben Barnes in the role, but in the end it just falls flat as does the third, so I'll stick with the first one because I feel the ending is perfect. I like this idea where they somewhat leave it up to interpretation, did they really find a magical land in the Wardobe or did they made it all up together while they were hiding in the Wardrobe.
Kind of reminds me of Full metal Alchemist a little bit. Both younger brothers remind me of my brother. I'm the oldest out of my siblings.
I see a lot of reflections of Studio Ghibli movies. There are litearlly so many. Please make an updated video mentioning that.
As an older brother- i resonated a lot with Wurts initial annoyance/burden of taking care of Greg. It really hit me hard when the huntsman said wurt hasnt sacrificed anything. As teens, we tend to think of simple things like "taking care" of siblings as easy but often "burdensome". In reality- taking care of siblings is the bare minimum in return for their innate love for you. Only after greg is near death does Wurt realize what it truly means to stand up for his brother.
Im fine with Adelaide being a let down in plot action because she is a let down in everything. A betrayal of audience expectations in the same vein as Beatrice's betrayal.
10:00 Isn't this the dog? Btw Great video!
15:45, the warning that auntie whispers game them was to show the concern that she had over travelers and his sister, showing the magnitude of fear
Even if I never saw the show before, it gives off a sense of ambrosia years after it came out
I’ve been watching this show annually for several years now and I just now notice that Sarah is black
The Foxy whistle!
I few things I like about the show is how episode 4 reminded me of the start of a dnd game, you enter a tavern and are introduced to the characters. Also, the reason Greg sticks with Jason Funderberker as the name is because the real person has a “frog in his throat”
Realized the two coins getting snatched instead of being left with the others foreshadows that the brothers will escape.
Great video!🔥
in terms of adelaid I feel like the fact she wasnt a big deal was part of the whole point, she was a big deal in the kids mind she was their ticket home assumingly, it made the betrayal sting more in a way, beatrice was willing to kill them over this person? it made the story much more centered on the betrayal, the big bad wasnt adelaid it was beatrice.
I dont think that the auntie didnt think of banishing the beast, I think she was afraid to because she felt she would lose Laurna, if there was no bell to keep her around no tasks she had to endlessly do, she would leave, the auntie selfishly let the spirit remain inside Laurna to keep her around, it definitely wasnt that she didnt think of it.
Aunty Whispers bringing up Adeleide an episode late is wonderful irony, not complaint worthy.
10:00 that's not Fred that's the dog that slept in front of the door to the inn
In episode 8 the song (or poem) that Greg recites ends in "And if you don't - I don't care, ill pull down your underwear". This (I think) might link back to how its all happening during Halloween, as the "trick or treat" phrase has some extensions that people like to use, most notably, "Trick or Treat. Smell my feet, Give me something good to eat. And if you don't, I don't care, I'll pull down your underwear". I think it's a cool little foreshadowing of the fact that all of this takes place on Halloween :D
I still feel the same feeling now when watching the ending of Prince Caspian with the call by Regina Spektor as I did when I watched it as a teenager. One of the best ending scenes of all the movies I have watched. The last line by Edmund is so good. "Do you think there's any way we could go back? I left my new torch in Narnia"
Favorite thing about this series was that the moon phases in the show matched the phases of the moon in real life as it was airing.
I think the reason Auntie Whispers didn't initially banish the evil spirit is because she was lonely and in some twisted way was keeping the girl trapped there.
I like how the tavern keeper even tells Wirt EXACTLY what the Beast’s deal is and he doesn’t even understand. Like she says he carries the dark lantern(btw is it a coincidence that the Tavern is called the Dark Lantern?) But also that the adelwood used to be lost souls that are now made into the oil to keep the beast lantern lit, and that you’ll be turned into one “once your will begins to spoil. Which is what starts to happen to Wirt before Greg makes a deal to do what the Beast says then become one himself so Wirt could live. Wirt was about to give up on everything (his whole life even) before he realized he has to take care of his brother.
The woodsman says he didn't know he was cutting down lost souls but he warns the kids to not give up and they'll be safe right?... seems like a contradiction
You even see Enoch arrive in the beginning montage. The cat on the cartridge pulled by turkeys. Honestly it's such a small but brilliant detail
Just finished this it was great
mouse??? I think he's a shrew
One thing I can contribute that doesn't seem to have been mentioned in other comments (as far as could tell) is that, in the tavern, Greg doesn't actually eat anything! If you look at the window, you can see Fred on the other side, and when Beatrice talks to him, he has his mouth covered in food. He's been sticking his head in and eating everything off the plates Greg set down. There was a deleted scene where it's more obvious he was doing so and even explain that he didn't reply to Beatrice because his mouth was full of food. Besides mealtime at Langtree school, we don't see the boys eat anything until Wirt eats whatever Beatrice's mother gave him. Probably the reason Greg eating edelwood leaves. They are hungry, but not quite too hungry. The Unknown is a place for the lost and forgotten, and it seems that this limbo keeps people a certain way since Jimmy Brown doesn't seem to have had any problems being stuck in a gorilla suit for three days.
I rewatch this series every year its a masterpiece. Something about it makes you feel like you're in some sort of dream or even a nightmare. Even though its mysterious its so oddly comforting as well. Easily one of my favorite cartoons of all time.
Here after the over the garden wall video just to find that you made a video on the movie that truly directed my sense of humor to whatever I call comedy now.
Wirt doesn't just wake up and shake off the Adelwood, Greg's wish was an exchange. His soul for Wirt's. That's why Wirt was able to wake up and shake it off, Greg gave himself to the Beast to save Wirt.
10:00 I'm pretty sure that was supposed to be the dog from the inn when they first enter? Its mouth is a little too wide for a horses and its hair is covering its eyes, similar to the dog.
15:55 she had thought about it before probably but didnt do it because she thought the girl would leave her. this isnt true though because at the end of the episode they decide to stay together
Fan theory: Auntie Whispers knew that she could use the bell to rid Lorna of the demon. She was either desperate for a companion, wanted cheap housekeeping, or had that Gypsy Rose mom complex. There’s no way she didn’t think of that and her reaction to the demon being exercised came off more like feigning surprise. “Omg you’re saved, that’s crazyyy. Well, I guess you don’t need me anymore.🥺”
Two posit my two cents, I think Galaxar being mediocre works well for this movie, because Dreamworks IS known for their stellar villains/antagonists. They're subverting their own trope in this movie (though probably not intentionally). If there is one thing Dreamworks is going to do, its trope subversion, including their own.
Gregs Candy made the dog go mad and Wirt had a poster of the black turtles in his room
I found Monsters vs Aliens to be underrated. Ginormica is my favorite character in the movie. And fitting that you added Napoleon Dynamite cause I also like that movie too.
This is an amazing community. So fun and entertaining to read what FDF missed or left out. Amazing show!
I've seen the series and can say that unfortunately I won't get back the time I wasted
You make a great analysis of the whole movie but the boss wasn't meant to be taken so seriously. What made him a threat was that he had all the means to destroy the planet because of his tech and brain, so he thought he could afford to be arrogant and overestimate the heros which was their edge above the villain. If the villain was very serious and disciplined- he would have obliterated them very easily. Because of his silly arrogance, he didn't think of them as a real threat and thats how they were allowed to get away, survive and ultimately achieve victory! The boss was both amusing and a threat because he had that capability to do insane damage and the ability to be serious if he wanted to and if he did, it could have easily been game over.
Wow, just discovered you. My sister and I regularly reference this movie - mainly the general.
Man, I haven't seen that movie in a real long time
I’m always shocked by how small this channel is bc I’ve enjoyed everything every put out since video one
I love this show, one of the reoccurring shots that they animate is the 2 circles that show the animation, to show that the beast is watching them. And in the episode with the queen you can see constantly happening. Which supports that the queen is the beast.
6:09 Dude. They called him 'Little Man💀'
Good vidja
I think she calls them her turtles because they hid in the turtle basket and it's a cute nickname
