I filmed this last weekend but the memory card in the drone failed and the footage wasn’t retrievable, so I went back today in super windy conditions. The old Mavic Air handled the conditions well.

It's just moving very slowly.
if cost a bit to get tug out refloated and save it same with other one be hiden it
What a shame. Could be turned into something, even as a minimal centre without all the slides etc. Gosh, into overnight stays. My biggest hate, is why people smash and destroy buildings like this.
@@cptlooney it’s pointless destruction, it’s so vulnerable to vandalism because of the location. It could have been put to another use, but now it needs a lot of money to rescue it.
@@Tassiephotographer Imagine if some one purchased it and made it a Overnight stay. All the resources are there.
@@cptlooney it would be a magic spot for an overnight stay for tourists etc, it could have a cafe or restaurant.
Cool spot to visit, we camped on the old oval directly opposite the school recently, old cricket pitch still there. Walk down the steep bank and down the hill, old mine cart tracks still there, can even access one old mine shaft over the river. Cool place to explore.
@@benhaslam8854 would have been spooky camping there of a night 👻 it’s an interesting area.
Defies logic.
@@stuartgilbert3969 certainly does, I think it’s all too hard for the government pen pushers to deal with, so they have just let it sit there.
As a child over 60 years ago, I used to watch a Tug with two barges of mud travel from Launceston down the river almost on a daily basis.. The idea was to dump the mud out to Sea.. But I believe that the dump site was actually still slightly inland from the sea.. (The Tug and the "drop bottom" Barges would not be safe at sea)? The result was that the mud was carried by tidal action back up the river.. In latter years dredging to keep the river channel clear has ceased ? There was a Dredger called the "Ponrabble 2" (and it's predecessor "Ponrabble 1") that constantly worked near Launceston to fill the barges and clear the river long before any power station or dam was built.. So. it may be unfair to blame the dam? The first Ponrabble dredge was scuttled west of Tamar Island long ago, (late 1940's I think) and it's superstructure was visible for many years (and may still be)? The reason for the 'scuttle' was before my time, but I know that the river on that side of the Island was not used by shipping.. There are many things done to the Tamar river over my lifetime that have contributed to the mud build up.. The worst may have been the introduction of Ricegrass to the river banks to stop erosion? It has grown to cover most of the shorelines and retains any mud from flowing down the river... It is like a "furry" foreshore, slowing the flow that would normally carry away some of the mud? The Erosion was supposedly caused by the 'wake' from motor vessel's propellers as they traversed the river? Many nice beaches and bathing spots on the river, That I visited as a child, have been totally lost to the invading Ricegrass. But this has been going on for so long now, that many "conservationists" think that it is "normal" and do not want it removed as many native Water fowl have adopted it as part of their way of life? In fact, the river was much healthier as I remember it, before the Ricegrass took over? Try looking at old photos dated prior to 1950, to see the river as it once was? As I remember it, Local lawmakers may have hindered the shipowners efforts to actually 'use' the vessels.. This resulted in their dereliction and now they appear to be stuck with them after his death.?. Could the state of this river, be mismanagement or poor choices on a large scale? I may be wrong, but that's how my memory sees it all through 70 years of living and watching locally?
Interesting read, and I believe your views are correct and I totally agree. One of my earlier videos is a drone flight around Tamar island focusing on the old scuttled barges that lay in the river, there is a large number of them, I think this may actually have been one of many attempts to stop the silting of the river perhaps? I’ve seen many old pictures of the river from years gone by, it was quite beautiful 50 plus years ago. Sadly I’m only 53 and don’t remember it being any different to what it was now. I remember as a sea scout we used to row and sail boats around the seaport area back in the 80’s, and it wasn’t much better then.
Hi , It may not have been connected to clearing the river.. More filling part of it in? The way I see it, is that they were trying to reclaim the waterway on the West side of Tamar Island, by sinking what ever was available and filling it (that part of the river)with earth? Obviously, it either did not work, or ran out of momentum.. This would have been viewed as progress back then, (although probably not nowadays)? The barge hulks that you mentioned are probably those that once hauled the mud downstream? Passenger ships used to come right up the river, to the wharf in the 30's & 40's.. Where travelers would transfer directly to trains awaiting them at the wharf.. The "Boat Train" went through to Hobart or the Coast? Your drone should still be able to pick out old railway tracks in the pavement east of the wharf buildings, ( and also some crossing Gleadow Street a short way East of the wharf still imbedded in the surface)? The railway came down Lindsay Street from the yards to the wheat silos, along the wharf and then up Gleadow Street to the Vacuum Oil company {Mobilgas} Pulled out in early 60's.. It once serviced a great number of locations in that area back then... The wharf, wheat silos, cool stores, Shell, Golden Fleece, Cement silos, Timber mills, B.P., Ampol and finally Mobilgas At Dilston, you could hear the throb of the ships motors as the came up and down the river, in time to reach the foreshore on foot, and watch them go by? I could go on, but life (and the river) was very different in those 1950's years?
thanks and greetings from riverside 7250... expose the truth
@@chrisbinckes2732 thank you, I think the government is trying to keep it all quiet, but they need to be made accountable for the waste of money.

Where do you live good vid on snow?
Hi, thank you, I live in Tasmania, this video was taken last weekend in the highlands area, we’ve had a run of sub zero temps here, it’s been down to as low as -13 degrees Celsius so far, the highlands are frozen.

Why someone would trash it to that extent is beyond me, probably some greenie mob wanting it to stay closed
Senseless vandalism, an absolute waste, it’s probably worse now.

Great footage and great subject for a photograph! I used to live near Mole Creek as a kid so I am familiar with the area and was able to find the exact location on Google Maps and Street View, the pond was a giveaway! Looking on street view that tractor was not there in 2008 and 2010 but was in 2022 so it was left there to rust sometime within the last 14 years! Next time I come down to Tassie on a road trip I will stop by that location with my DSLR with 250mm lens and take some shots myself.

It’s sad seeing them like that. I’m not sure of the names of them. The council has pressure on them to get the river cleared up, so these may not be around many more years.
Do the boats shown have names? What is the first one called?

Hows the triton been behaving for you? Mines been playing games costing money again and now wee seem to have an understanding lol still haven't been down to that beach yet.
It’s been pretty good, nothing major has gone wrong with it yet, had it 10 years, just little electronic gremlins like an ABS wheel speed sensor, broken air bag clock spring and general wear and tear, it’s a 2007 model so getting old. Ocean beach is probably the beast beach run in Tassie, well worth the drive over there to do it at least once.
Yeah I haven't had any of those dramas. I've had to replace clutch in short period of time. Clutch damper i think... wasn't working and the clutch was cooking itself slowly to death. So new clutch then powersteering pump, and figured I may as well get the rocker cover fixed started weeping. And then went to leave Alice Springs, they had to undo fuel lines to get to their rocker cover and they've never been removed and the seals were harden and wouldn't seal up again am leaking fuel everywhere lol but were all good now. I can just hear the clutch under my feet engaging when I change gears. After bypass to master to slave cylinder. Fun times lol
@@matttasmania9506 I think all brands have their niggly little problems, none of them are perfect, mine is 80% used for towing a caravan and 20% used off road, other than that I hardly drive it, it gets flogged pretty hard towing the van, it’s auto so no clutch issues to worry about.
