CROATIA Made Me Quit Vanlife! Van Eurotrip E9

Wild camping in Croatia can cost you even €400! The locals don't like vanlifers and often report them to the police. If you stay in your van at a beach car park, you may wake up to police blocking the exit unless you pay.... Croatia is incredibly beautiful. But it comes with a price.
My HONEST Reflections After 1 Month of Vanlife in Europe
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Having been on the road for a full 4 weeks in the Balkans, I am sharing my experience and reflections that can help others start (or thinking of starting) their vanlife journey. There were many more pros and cons and also more country-specific but here, I focused mainly on the van setup and daily struggles. Maybe someone finds it useful 🙃 #vanlife #travellingvlog #campervan

My Serbian NIGHTMARE at the border - Van Eurotrip (E5)

From that day, I ALWAYS check if the border I am about to cross is official (almost... spoiler alert wrrr)... 3 hours, bucket of tears, a lot of fuel, and much more time WASTED for that reason :( But - it is a lesson. At the time, it really overwhelmed me, today I know that from all the things that could have gone wrong, it wasn't so bad - but if you can, learn from me so you can avoid it :) Mu...

PS Lived here 45 years
I am a born and bread Londoner. When I left it was with regret. Now, if you even offered me a £5m mansion in London, I would turn it down. This is because, we, in our street have something I never had anywhere in London… neighbours… I know everyone in my street and are chatting friends with most. This spreads to a next street too. We also look out for each other. When anyone is away, we all keep an eye on their place. We also do things like water their plants. From our front door, there is a score of lovely walks. Some of those walks take me to a village mentioned in the Domesday book, the sight of twelfth century windmill (the oldest of its type in the UK), an eleventh century church, 16th century manor house, a four-hundred year old tree, the sight of an old railway, the Grand Union Canal, farm buildings of various antiquity. On that walk I can breathe in air that is so clean because of the parks and woodlands surrounding. A ten minute drive takes us to a 11th century abbey, a town so very involved in the ECW, a coaching town that has the original Cock & Ball plus several other important places, the sight of the first diesel engine, the factory that used to build the greatest British car (Aston Martin), The best University in the world (OU), many Roman and Medieval sights… and of course: Bletchley Park, one of the most important places in the world…
You build a city from scratch and still build terraced housing? MK needs to develop only big detached homes from now on. It also needs a skyscraper district (business and residential) to entice businesses to MK.
how to get agree to fly there?
The no-fly zone was a little further so I think it was all okay to fly with Mini 2 :)
Nice video, but after 16 yrs of living in mk I came to hate it with a vengeance 😕
thank you Kathy, well 16 years is a lot :) I moved after 5 years but I do miss MK... not all of it (definitely not the centre) but there are places I loved and miss 🥰
What is that ugly 'light pyramid'? Is it 'art' like the concrete cows? Why does MK hate the natural world and anything organic so much? Why concrete over that little 'hill' ... was it always a hillock or is it artificial?
Honestly, I am not sure what is the purpose of the light pyramid 😂 I'm sure it has something to do with the sunlight moving along but I defo had higher expectations before seeing it 🤣 In that location, I guess they could have gone for something a little more "majestic", even if it's artificial...
Nice video. Amazing points in Italy. Greetings from Brasil

Celtic or Kelti is a Serbian tribe.
Serbs are atlantean. They just gotta wake up and get rid of false orthodox "christianity" that was brought onto them to imprison them by Vatican.
Never use Google Maps for driving in the entire Balkans region. They are not precise and will mislead you regarding the quality of roads and possibility of actually using them or crossing borders. I mean all of the Balkans, Romania included. I use only Garmin maps. I also have Garmin sat-nav. They are the most reliable ones.
You have a eye for drone photography 😊
I’d like to think so but I think it’s the mother nature’s advantage 😍
Cracking drone shots ❤ 😊
Thank you 🙏💛
MK looks amazing,thank you.
Thank you very much :)
lol Welcome to the Balkans! that's how we treat Western people ....
At least this was my only bad experience in the Balkans, the rest was really awesome and people were wonderful 🥰
Next time when your stuck on gravel road like that on hill turn your car around and drive in reverse trust me weight of the engine and car will put tension on from wheels and you won’t get stuck 👍🏻
Money opens doors! (And borders..)
Happened to me. Traveling from Hungary to Ukraine with my camper. Google navigation took me to border crossing for local population. I had to drive around 50 km to international border crossing low on fuel. No gas station on the way. In desperation i used cooking oil to finish the trip. Fortunately, camper had diesel engine and run without problem.
Oh wow, that must have been an adventure 😅 And cooking oil?? OMG seriously? 😅😅😅

Ty for this video! I have a question - how expensive was it to live like that for a month. I asking about the overall cost of food + accommodation + gas and so on :) i wonder if my current job would be enough for it 'cause I would love to try it in spring <3
Thank you! The answer to your question depends on many many factors so it's not easy to say but I will be making a video about that too :) In my last 7 weeks, I spent about 2300EUR and majority of the time I spent in cheaper Balkan countries. I will break it down in an episode soon :)
Ty for this video! It was great!
Thank you so much! :)
Not to be rude, no one told you? that if you go that way, you should have good sex and relax as much as possible before the trip
You came that way between two border crossing. That's why they couldn't let you go. Google Maps is note reliable. Try Here We Go. It doesn't use internet but GPS.
4:41 This Belgrade "Sebilj fountain" was a gift from Sarajevo to Belgrade in 1989, as a remander of the cultular and historical ties of these two cities. Zagreb, Paris, Rome and Novi Pazar received the same gifts. This one from the photo is from Sarajevo. This is not Belgrade. :)
That’s a great point - thank you so much for providing this context! ☺️
Hi Magda, I watched it thru to th end..nice video. Absolutely awesome clarity, the experience watching your video is out of this world. Wow!! for your camera. Can you please tell us what camera are you using specifically. I would want to buy one the same. Many thanks in advance. Cheers from Sydney, Australia.
Hi Dusko! Thank you so much for your comment :) I actually use my Iphone 13 Pro most of the time for filming. Some bits are made on Fuji X-T3 (but I wouldn't buy it for filming) and the aerial videos are from DJI Mini 2 drone with 4k camera :) So a bit of a mix here!

Yeah, google maps in rural Serbia can really ruin your day, something similar happened to me few years ago. Hope you had a great time otherwise
Thank you! I had a fantastic time and lots of lessons learnt 😆 looks like it doesn’t happen to just me 😇

If u want 2 move 2 the city some estates not good some horrible people avoid fullers slade lakes estate Netherfield Greenleys and other places but there some nice places to.we moved out of Milton Keynes people make out its a wonderful place it has got parks and open space which is nice we couldn't afford 2 buy a house so we lived on a council estate not a good idea
I agree, there are some really great places in MK but the prices in the recent years.... not sure if it's worth it anymore :( so I feel you about moving, I had to do the same...
Uvac is pronounced as Uvats.
Thanks for noting that - I trusted my instinct without actually checking 🤭
The latin letter C is always a TS sound in Serbian - like in the word Fancy. lol.

Thank you! 😊
How much they chargin' for a cup o' joe in a Budapest café compared to Paris or Croatia?
A cup of what, sorry? 😅
I left after a minut and pronunciation of Uvac -it is not Uvach but Uvatz, end it's like your sure name ( not that difficult, yeah) It would be like if I call you Marla instead of Magda)...
It's little too much to expect that she's familiar with Serbo-Croatian fully phonetic alphabet, where each single letter represents one (and always the same) certain sound, i.e. that serbian letter "c" always stands for sound [tz] (while "s" for sound [s] and "k" for sound [k] ), since she's probably not even aware of the details of her surname. "Vrabetz" is a transkription of slovakian "vrabec" or serbian "vrabac", which is a word for sparrow 🐦, a correctly done transcription to english/german alphabet, in order to preserve the right sound of it (since "c" in Vrabec - as it most probably was written in it's original form - would be pronounced as [k], hence as "vrabek").
@shara-la8629 with what you've said, you are just showing how petty and narrow minded you are.
RELAX LITTLE PERSON ,😮SHE'S DONE AN OUTSTANDING JOB IN SHOWING YOUR BEAUTIFUL BUT HATING EVERYTHING AND EVERY BODY LITTLE COUNTRY 😊
so may i ask you.... you made all this fuss as you did not planned it good? In every country there are some laws which you need to respect.. i am sure there is no country in Europe that would let you cross the border unofficially so apologize but i see this as your fault. I am glad cause you had some nice time, and personally i do travel a lot, so unplanned things are happening everywhere.. But tears cause you could not pass where you wanted? a little bit too much.
Appreciate 🙏 When I think about it now, it was not worth the drama but when it happened I was absolutely mortified to drive back as this was a massively steep road in the middle of nowhere and I knew I'd be driving back to the same town I came from for over an hour with little fuel and possibly burnt breaks... There were only a handful of cars that I saw so I just had the worst scenario in my head 😅I guess it was just one of these moments that overwhelmed me and it was my first travel, and I was alone. I learnt from it and it is absolutely part of the process :)
@@magdavrabetz you have anywhere these kind of roads ....alternative one. Sometimes they are even useful. But borders crossings are goverment thing and we need to cross them properly
Absolutely! This one was unfortunate as there was no other turn and I had to drive this far back. I just got used to not having borders at all within the EU 😅 From that point, I kept checking for official borders :)
@@magdavrabetz than again....you see so many beautiful things and that is all that counts
Some folks get all teary-eyed when they miss a flight, while others stay cool as a cucumber. Being wise means recognizing and respecting all kinds of personalities.
Beograd 🎉❤🎉🥰🇷🇸
You can only cross the border at official border crossings, but there will always be these local border crossings that are meant for local populations who live alongside the border and they have special permits. They're not meant for transit traffic. This is true for all Europe, except in Schengen you obviously don't see that anymore. I also recommend to keep a 5l canister of petrol in your van at all time for emergencies like this one. If you have time you should also plan ahead and find local garages, road assistance, hospitals etc. phone numbers as you never know when you might need it.
Yes, absolutely - next time I’ll be prepared 😅 thank you!
Dear kind note : you are using the wrong map. According to the international law and UN Kosovo and Metohija is Serbia.
🙏 which maps would you recommend?
@@magdavrabetz only those maps in which there are states that are recognized in the UN, and without fake states.
ne gnjavi, znas koliko to nju interesuje?
