I'm binge watching these. Remember seeing them when they were first shown back in 1980. A few silly, far-fetched bits, but overall very good. Wonder whether this was filmed in an actual arena, or in Granada's studios?

Scams have always been around and some took ingenuity and planning. There was one where men would look at daily death notices and find a husband of a wealthy family who had died. They would then pretend they were a travelling salesman selling Bibles. Call on the widow, and faking ignorance that he knew the husband was dead, say that he had procured a special edition of the Bible that the husband had ordered and was delivering it personally. When told of the demise he feigned sadness and disappointment that the cost of the Bible would now have to be bourne by him and with all his children he would not be able to afford it. The widow, would take pity on him and of course pay him the money for what was actually an ordinary Bible. He would slink off humbly and once out of sight, head towards the next victim. There were snake oil hoodwinker and carpetbaggers too. Today, technology is the tool of trade and as long as there are gullible or greedy people about to be taken advantage of, the scammers will survive. *Beware…if an offer seems too good to be true then it is almost certainly a scam.*

This splendid series is as good as it gets PERIOD!

Enjoying the series 29 8. 2024. All these years later they imo stand the test of time.

The fights were very well directed and acted. The implications of the interracial relationship would not have gone over with an American audience very well at the time this series was produced. Our prejudice and bigotry is still holding us back.

It's a great series but every episode, I've seen so far, has women naked in it. Every one. SMH.

I assume that the reference to 1981 was a screening year, because the end date on the video itself with the ATV logo was 1979.
