      @TheAverageHomeowners 7 дней назад

      Yes, absolutely. That is the best way to do it. As long as your grass looks healthy and not brown or yellow you should be good to go.

      @@TheAverageHomeowners cool thanks. I know run off might be an issue but any recommendations on how long at time to do? For instance my heads says about .4 an hour. So it would take about 2.5 hours to get the full inch. Break it up in 30 mins or even more? I know soil adsorption would be a factor to.

    • @TheAverageHomeowners
      @TheAverageHomeowners 7 дней назад

      Your system if its in ground may have an option for soak. If it does use this and it breaks up the watering cycle to allow for the ground to soak in the water before starting to run again. If not, set it up to run for 50% of the watering and then 50% on a second run. This will allow the soil time to soak in the water and avoid runoff.

    All chemical (synthetic) based lawn fertilizers are the same, they are high in nitrogen and do nothing to improve your soil. The most expensive ones are no better than the cheapest ones. Overtime they build up high nitrate levels (salts). Your yard look lush green but the soil becomes a chemical waste pit.The run off from heavy rains is causing environment problems with rivers, lakes chocking with high nitrate levels. Over time the leaching causes these chemicals to go deeper into the soil. Companies are staring to make organic lawn fertilizers but they are very expensive. You can buy a 40 pd bag of alfalfa meal/pellets for $20 and use it as a fertilizer. Cotton seed meal, composted cow manure and just some of the many low cost fertilizers that improve your soil. Every fall millions of people rake and bag leaves for garbage pick up. You. can take these leaves, spread them on your lawn and go over them a few times with a lawn mower. They will decompose into your soil and act as a fertilizer.

    I definitely have a fair amount of weeds, so is it better to put down a preemergent to kill the weeds. Or is it better to aerate and overseed?

    • @TheAverageHomeowners
      @TheAverageHomeowners 2 месяца назад

      Jason - Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment. If you are trying to kill the weeds, you need to be using a post emergent. Particle or liquid will work just make sure it is safe for your grass type and situation. The pre emergent helps to stop the new weeds from germination but will not kill actively growing ones. As for aerate and overseed, that is always good for your lawn, but will not have any impact on your weed situation. Hope this helps - Eric

      @johnblevins2248 The Bermuda sod is Tifton44 which is a costal Bermuda grass variety down here in the gulf coast area. I like how Yukon and Blackjack look and they are tighter grasses. Hell yeah man, I'm your first subscriber! I live in New Braunfels and have the greenest yard on the block every year. I got started with How To With Doc about 5 years ago and received a bunch of great tips to include using Humic DG. I then found the Lawn Insider who coincidentally lives in a neighborhood around the corner from me who has also been helpful. I'm literally about to purchase some 12-12-12 from Yard Mastery only because it's a little cheaper than The Andersons and then Humic DG will be next as I just scalped my yard. It sounds like you already have some knowledge about yard maintenance in south Texas so it probably goes without saying how much hydretain is a life saver during our drought season. Good luck on your journey, I'll be here riding shotgun!

      Thanks for the follow! I have been active previously on my St. Augustine lawn, but I thought this was a great opportunity to start up a channel about doing all the things that people who are not @howtowithdoc or @thelawncarenut can do to still have a great yard and home. Should be a fun journey. Thanks for being the first. As for Hydretain, I have only used in when intense droughts were setting in, do you use it regularly?

    • @adamc1706
      @adamc1706 3 месяца назад

      @@TheAverageHomeowners I’ve had bad results from hydretain but I believe that was due to a little bit of an overlap on application. However, I do think it works from the studies done on it. Not sure exactly if it is required or not, I would focus on getting adequate water first, cheap source of nitrogen, and frequent mowing. It’s really all Bermuda needs to thrive, really no need to pay $80 for a 45lb bag of fertilizer when your local coop or big box store sells urea/ams for extremely cheap.
