The time limit never changes. It is always three minutes. The main issue is that the damage from the Guiding Light counts against rank, so you need to do the secret mission to make up for those lost points. However, if you spent too much time outside of DT, you will take too much damage that the extra points from the secret mission does not cover, so you must spend as much time in DT as possible, as any damage from the Guiding Light in DT does not count against your rank.

@@bassomegax Got it. I read somewhere that it's 2 minutes 650 Red Orbs, and that completing sm5 extended it to 3 minutes. I can't stress this enough though, excellent job on this mission. M7 is monstrously difficult to get the SB on under these conditions.

It was an unlisted video from 2018 that I felt had no reason to be unlisted, so I just made it public. I want to make more videos, but I just don't have the mental state to be playing this game as much as I would need to.

Back in the day, I did a lot of research just to figure out mission 7 ranking. I got it to the save and reset part, but I also included get a SB just to be safe. Once I started memory watching the game, it was clear you just needed save and reset with secret mission points. I had some inspiration to do M7SB with no leniency. Someone else did it on a NG+ on PC. I was also watching some old videos by Joch1. I always hated the ports, so I wanted to do it on PS2 and NG. I guess the next step is to do it on console, if I can get my mental state back into the game.

@@bassomegax it's a brutal assignment. it's one of the few that you can look at and say "yeah they obviously intended for SB to be special and not repeatable/consistent". at this point you can comfortably say you've done it, the only reason to repeat it on console would be for the thrill of the grind i guess lol. well done though. it is funny going back through the history of DMC forums and hearing about leniency and theories for why unearned S ranks and special bonuses occur now that we have an objective answer as to how they occur. people had some wild theories, including entering a room multiple times subtracting points, allowing text boxes to play out entirely without skipping them adding points, etc. though it is unfortunate that this glitch exists considering it is *extremely* easy to earn an undeserved rank on accident (if you are trying to earn an S rank/special bonus, you are almost surely loading from a save as you are unlikely to first try it)

The Guiding Light does not count in Normal mode. Only Hard and DMD.

Nightmare has a predictable pattern based on where you are located in relation to him.

@@bassomegax Ah. Also how are you doing so much damage to nightmare's final stage. For me I'm doing close to no damage

@@qaycab3722 By the time you get to Nightmare a third time on Dante Must Die, you likely have turned the core red. When it turns red, the core takes 1/2 damage. Once it is red, you can't turn it back. To prevent the core from turning red on DMD requires knowledge of core management, which is something you have to learn. It would take a while for you to learn everything by yourself.

I'm not a huge fan of the HD versions. If you can still play the PS2 versions, I would stick with those. If you have a lot of trouble playing PS2, you can get the HD version. Out of all the HD versions, PS3 is the best for DMC1. I can't comment on the other games.

Most people call it a stinger jump. It should be in DMC3 and 4. I haven't played 5, but I would be surprised they wouldn't include it.

Easy mode will only let you continue onto another easy mode run. You don't unlock difficulty selection until you beat Hard NG+. You can't even do Hard NG withohut beating Hard NG+ first.

By beating the game on a difficulty through NG+ I believe
