    Phelps didn't deserve the gold, he's too slow and his teammates have to make up his lost time.

      it takes 4 swimmers to make a relay, and phelps wasn't even the slowest leg on the relay anyway

      @@luciferangelicusdemonicus4070 ... because he was the lead off swimmer. he only lost to biedermann, who would have crushed anyone else in the world that year by an even bigger margin. 1:44.49 Phelps 1:44.13 Berens 1:45.47 Walters 1:44.46 Lochte If you compare the splits with the same weighting, phelps was outright the second slowest on his team. Adjusted for relay starts, phelps was far better than walters and lochte, and also beats berens.

    3:37 The commentary says something about the younger swimmer swimming really close to the lane line and describes it as a technique. I am new to this idea. Is it related to physics in the water?

      rottentwapple My coach has told me to swim middle of the lane and says it's bad to swim next to the lane line, so I don't know :/

      +rottentwapple He's just explaining that when you're drafting some other swimmer it's better for you to move close to his lane so the drag is reduced.
