I'm using a Boss Katana 50 on the "brown" setting, with a fairly balanced eq and the gain set somewhere in the ballpark of 3-4 out of 10. I'm boosting that with the Katana tone studio's built in tube screamer OD pedal, and then I sprinkled just a touch of reverb and delay (also from the tone studio) on top of that since this lesson was mostly lead guitar. Thank you! And yes, I completely agree with you. Best answer I can come up with is that at this time most of their material is tuned half step down, so it didn’t make sense to use different guitars/tuning for this one song. My guess is they wanted to come up with something that deviated from the average “key of the lowest string” that other songs use to add some variety/spice to the album.

For lead, I actually always use the same settings as my rhythm but I add just a touch of reverb and some delay. Not a ton, but just enough to give it that extra bit of texture. As for things BG does in their riffs, i actually am not super familiar with a ton of their music (despite my making this video), but from what I do know, I would say they mostly use the major scale and the natural minor (aeolian) for most of their melodies. They also like to harmonize a lot of their melodies, and it seems like they stick to intervals of an octave or thirds for that. Also like many power metal bands, and as evidenced by the rhythm parts for this song, they love to 16th note palm muted single note sections that are accented with power chords pertaining to whatever root note they use for the 16th notes. I could get into more, but let me know if that helps.
