Interesting detail the toe of that points blade is getting a bit worn.... Wonder how long they let them go?? 387 net tonnes of milk solids at $10 a kg. Gotta be worth the cost of special freight all season.
Nice capture there Zane. Nice change from CPOS. 😂😂
That locomotive looks like the SLR class m2
Nice video. It would be great to see J1211 running on the mainline again one day.
Why run diesel when the track is electrified?
It's a heritage excursion, that's why.
Truss Me I know what I'm doing.
#4818 looking fresh and now has mainline certification. Expect more mainline excursions with #4818
What happened to the wooden carriages
My my, how times have changed 😁 although "we" have been chasing diesel hauled passenger excursions for a while now...😁 A Dc and a Dbr...👍
Gotta get yourself a fluffy for your microphone
Such dedication, videoing in the rain 😊 The tanks are full of milk?
@bnrailfannz8262 yes, tanks are full of milk, I went prepared, so the rain wasn't too much of a bother.
The Kai Iwi passing loop was briefly removed then reinstated?
Many people back then when the Toshiba electric locomotives at Otira were introduced and then the Silver Fern, would have thought what a modern and ahead of its time these locomotives/railcars were. The Japanese were ahead of their time.
I remember seeing this video many years ago It's good to see it still exists. Even the verbal audio came back to mind. I did this trip back in 2000. Well worth doing.
Beautiful footage of Main Trunk 1271. That cool steam locomotive all the way in New Zealand.
Great video, yes it blows like that all over NZ, but worth the effort!
Great spot for videoing trains. I imagine a lot of the trains run from the Fonterra dairy factory at Whareroa?
Where does the siding off the loop lead to? Private siding maybe?
@philiphunt2313 it's a back shunt.
@zanegracie39 I have been along that line, last time 1985!
Two of those awful Dl's. Hope we don't get them in the S. Island to tide us over before the Dm's arrive.
It was the brakes applied to bring the train to a halt.
Had a few trips behind DBR1254. Glenbrook run a good set up.
Great sound
enjoyed that
I was standing part way up on the raurimu spiral, it was just on dusk, the train pulled in at the bottom, I heard a man yelling, I think he yelled "2 minutes!!!" A bunch of people leapt out, took photos and then he yelled "Back on!!!" and they all jumped back on. Then those 2 engines, they opened them right up. I remember the ground shaking as they tore up that mountain. An unforgettable memory.
Thanks for sharing this. After doing the Tongariro Crossing, I took this great train from National Park back to Auckland on a school trip in the 80s. The food was great, and the seats were comfortable after enduring a tent. Happy days, but what a loss to NZ.
3:03 good to see the evening Northerner Express passenger train! That commentator wasn't entirely accurate, a fully laden Northerner could be built up to 16 total if you count the FP-class (ex-Z-class) bogie postal wagons and ZP-class bogie parcels wagons. Thank you, Zane for uploading this piece of NZR history!
I remember taking this trip in about 1980. Absolutely state of the art for me back then! My old dad even wore a suit!
*Promosm*
This is wonderful footage, thank you for posting it! I just did the 2024 Spiral Express with GVR and DRB 1254, was a magnificent experience through the heart of our North Island. Cheers!
this. train. is. the. tangiwai. but. not. desaster
Let’s see how it does it please
Love the setup i have a turner stationary haypress and really want a frick or baker steam tractor
Interesting baler and nice Video 👍🏼
Would be better with audio explaining the situation......
it does have audio.
@@zanegracie39 But the audio is not aimed at the listerner and does not explain the situation. Newly refurbished electric locos for a railway that would seemingly prefer not to use them. Will they be used I wonder?
If i had a better editing programme, i could dub an audio comment onto it, but i don't unfortunately
Wonder where all those model trains are, used for this ad at 23:00
nice recap
Fantastic video my friend ! Have a nice weekend 🤩🤩👍👍
I hope you've had a good one too Rodrigo 🙂
Very nice video, big like 👍
What is the model of this locomotive, my friend?
I'm glad to see this happening, as Kiwi Rail has been rather pro diesel. Probably too much to hope for, but it would be great to see the wires go all the way from Auckland to Wellington.
I was trying work out if this would have been the last time 1410 came to the Taranaki?
Our Swiss Air Force had over 200 Venoms, flown primarily by militia pilots. In the 1970s they mostly flew low over the landscape, apparently just above the treetops and house roofs and in all weathers for their mission against a ground target! Sometimes one wondered how they managed to fly among the low-lying clouds and hills. Great respect from these pilots!
good video. nice and long train. greetings
What a beautiful train... I had never seen it before. thanks for the video. greetings
I guess this is an ex Swiss Airforce DH-112 right?
Yes, the RNZAF never flew Venoms that i'm aware of, but they flew Vampire Jets.
See the nose. Swiss airforce put a bigger radar in the nose during the 60is. Therfore the nose i a litle bigger. In my childhood I saw many of Vampires, Venoms and Hunter take off and landing. I grow up close the airforce base of Dübendorf.
There was never a radar in the nose of a Venom (besides the night fighter variants which were not flown by the Swiss air force); not even a radar ranging gun sight.
@@zanegracie39 14 Squadron RNZAF flew leased RAF Venoms in Singapore from April 1955 till May 1958. 44 identities were flown during that time with a squadron strength of 16 at any one time.
So beautiful train, congratulations for the video!
This is an ex Swiss airforce DH-112. I saw them many times start and landing in my childhood. Great aircraft!
Genau Heinz!
No sound
Must be at your end, video plays fine and with sound.
Is it a vampire
No, it's a Venom.
It's a Venom. Vampires don't have wingtip tanks. They are very easy to distinguish from the Venom.
I love the gen 1 jets.
I remember these snarling their way through the sky over Wanganui, NZ when I was young. Nice to see one again.
She's a beauty, ZK-OTU/NZ1044 in the RNZAF it used to wear with No 2 Operational Training Unit at RNZAF Ohakea during 1944-45.
