The topsy turvy world of mortgage rates in 2025
It has been a wild December 2024 and january 2025 for interest rates. From the sidelines it seems no one is sure what is going to happen. It started in December when th Fed cut another 25 basis points off the Fd Fund rates making it 100 basis points for the year. Was this a reason to cheer? No, the Jerome Powell said inflation is still sticky and maybe there would be only two rate cuties in 2025. The result was a bond sell off that was made worse by a robust jobs report with salary increases going up. That mad it worse. Then finally the Consumer Price Index which is a major factor in assessing inflation came in down below expectations. Now rates have settled down to where they were before...
