The Fortissimo Project
Добавлен 18 май 2015
The Fortissimo Project is a channel dedicated to instrumental music instruction, on basic to more advanced techniques on instruments of the traditional concert band. This is a project that I did as part of my Master's Degree in Band Conducting at the American Band College of Sam Houston State University. I hope these videos are helpful to the band student and also helpful as band teachers use can use them as a supplement to their curriculum.
Thank you to all of the professional musicians who gave their time and expertise for this project and also to Gerry's Music Shop for helping to make this project come to fruition.
I welcome feedback and hope to continue making videos as viewers need.

Is there a book you would recommend for new marimba players?
Thank I needed to know how to use that sheet holder, I didn’t even know it was a sheet holder
Wow
❤I love this
0:57 Do you mean low C-Sharp?
Nice
Any beginner book rec? - if im switching from trumpet to euph and wanting to stay initially in treble clef and then making the switch to bass?
Thank you for explanation
Harmon Harmon Harmon Wah Wah
I looked forward to listening to what the sousaphone sounded like.
Go from the bottom up. If you are a first time tuba player, never having played a brass instrument before, the low b flat is the easiest note to hit. I remember when I started off, the high b flat was difficult.
where are you located
We can't see your fingering
Guide everything that you do on the trombone through the imagery of sound - not muscles.
Good advice. But when you’re making a video, NEVER use the camera mic unless it’s a shotgun.
Im a trombone player but am really Fat now? So a trombone i bought wouldnt fit my fat neck. Ruther than Hunting a fat neck trombone i thought of the euphonium or baritone-but im concerned im even too fat to play Them.
Ironically, the room Swallows the sound with all those hard edges. Probably better to Wear a microphone.
La traduction ne serait pas superflue. ...Merci
Thank you! I started playing sousaphone uh today. My shoulder hurts
This happened to me. I started on the trumpet but my notes were always way to low. So my band teacher recommended a euphonium and I was great at it. Good switch!
IT'S NOT A TUBA!!
Thank you.
I want you to play it without the bell :)
Amazing! so much in-depth information (and all for free). I really appreciate all your advice and input. This was the best introduction to oboe reeds and their care, thank you.
Never knew that Walter White played tuba
Epic
Did he ever play it?
What does it mean when u let ur instrument control u
I wanted a tuba to
Which Euph. do you recommend buying? Something in the 1500$ range preferably. I feel the 4th valve on the side is great but wouldn't know the cons if their was one for the pinky, aside from the ones you mentioned.
I play tuba for my middle school and I'm sad that I can't take it home to practice it for my spring concert and my Christmas concert cause the tubas to big
I tried on a sousaphone for my first time and let me say this: It was the most awkward instrument I have ever held lol. Whenever I turned it caused the thing to turn with me. And plus the bell is so huge it blocked half my vision so I could only see the floor.
def getting a fiberglass one
Cant really Hear
turn the volume up
Its all the way up.
@@seanmontgomery836 have you considered that your hearing isn’t that great
Had it checked. Can Hear the Grass grow. Have you learned any Manners?

What do I do if my family won’t let me switch?
kill them
Is it heavy
what is braeke? I tried this but blowing hard made me fart
If your gonna make a video practice speech and show more examples sooner.... Win I could make this for you
Great video! I just bought a used horn after a 28 year hiatus. In order to play a D above middle C, I have to use valves 1&2, instead of just 1. I wonder if you know what could be causing this? Thanks!
Am I the only one that uses the 4th valve ALOT
This is a great video. I played the double horn in high school (20 years ago) and just bought my own recently to take up again. I was taught when to use the thumb key to switch to b flat, but was never given an explanation why we use b flat in the upper and lower registers and f in the mid range. You explained it well. Thanks!
I'm switching to euphonium from tenor horn thx this really helped.
The first thing I saw was the coolwinds 😂 I guess that just goes with working in a music shop
I wish you could keep it up, musical channels that dedicates themselves to only music are rare.
I am a Sousa player. The smallest in my band. Is that one lightet than a normal one. Mine is 35lbs
Very helpful. Thank you
Thank you for the sound info. Sound quality has room for improvement though.
Can we have a video on the sound differences between a single and a double french horn?
How tf am I gonna go from flute to this
Louder, please.
