I bought a brand new mossberg mvp patrol in 308, it was made in 2021 and the magazine housing looks totally different than yours, it has a different magazine release as well. Mossberg must have made some changes in their later rifles.

I have two of them. One I rebarreled to .300 AAC Blackout. The Blackout one had SERIOUS FTF (fail to fire) issues. I finally came to me in the middle of the night what the "problem" was there "shipping" grease inside bolt assembly! Found a video on RUclips on how to disassemble and assemble the bolt. Disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, lubed with Mobil1 10 full synthetic oil, assembled, FTF gone. Both my MVP patrol rifles are tack drivers = less than 1" MOA at 100 yards. Wish I could post pictures of both of them. AND he is correct, the real beauty of the MVP Patrol is being able to use AR15 magazines which makes the cost of magazines inexpensive and readily available.

I've noticed the magpul mags are really sloppy and it's best to use a steel pmag.

A bolt action using an AR mag just makes no sense in my opinion

Tromix makes a extremely nice METAL replacement mag well assembly and trigger guard. Mossberg’s plastic ones totally suck. Easy professional fix, simple drop in and done. We do need a replacement bolt assembly to smooth up the action. Google Tromix....

Sadly, here in Connecticut we don't have to worry about a 30 round mag being sloppy. 🙄

I realize it's been three years since you posted this but, I will share my fix for the loose magazines. I use a very thing piece of sheet metal to shim the mag well. I epoxied it onto the rear of the mag well and it really tightens up the fit and works great. The shim itself is approximately 1 1/4 inches long and fits in the rear of the well with some clearance on both sides. Used a small amount of gorilla epoxy to glue it in. For $75 you can buy a steel mag well that fits great. The MVP is an excellent rifle, have had mine for three years and love it.

i had the same bolt problem on mine, the bolt is porly designed, combine that with no spare parts (policy) they have i will not get another one.

I've been looking for an affordable 223 rifle and I am really liking this rifle and the Howa mini. The only think I don't like on this rifle is the bolt and the design of the bolt. It seems to have too much play on the bolt for my taste. But for the price, it seems pretty solid.

Just ordered a patrol chambered in .308 now I'm getting nervous!

Just FYI, Tromix makes a replacement magazine well for the 5.56mm MVP rifles.

Wow, Wife and I each have an MVP 5.56, 20 inch standard barrel. To fix the magazine position, I added a spacer, about 1/2 inch in length, at the bottom of the spine groove of the magazine well using JB KWIK. The wedge causes the bottom of a magazine to be pushed forward causing the rounds to be tilted up ward toward the feed ramps.

Yeah I really wanted to get this gun but i have read quite a few issues with the mags. I guess i'll grab me an M&P Sport II instead. Not a fan of all these problems these things are having. Such a shame. Really wanted a scout rifle that used AR15 Mags.

I just put one in layaway today. I noticed that the stock was touching on the right side. Does anyone know if this will affect the accuracy with a heavy barrel?

You must have gotten a true lemon. I haven't had any issues with mine to date, after 200 rounds. Maybe I'm just not hard enough, or rough enough with it like you are yours?

Marines use mossberg shotguns....good enough for me.

Forgot to add I also put a larger bolt knob.on it. Speaking of which I too am a lefty just learned to use right handed weapons. Not a hard thing to do at all and cost nothing.

Mine was good out of the box. To stop the wobble I replaced the mag weld with a new aluminum one. Still a little loose but as with the factory weld no problem feeding. Yea I call it a weld as well. The weld can be easily found on eBay . If you want a larger mag releases it too can be found on eBay as a bolt on add on pice. Al in all my MVP Patrol is one great rifle.

Help me understand why you want to put a 30 round magazine in this rifle. If you needed to fire off 30 rounds, wouldn't you just use an AR then?? Of course the rifle is going to hold a larger magazine as well as a lower capacity magazine. Just because I can put 35" tires on Volkswagen Beetle, while it may be cool to see, doesn't mean you should do it unless you absolutely needed to. Like I said before though if there is a need for a capacity that high then you need a different rifle. You can't hold apples to the standard of an orange. With all due respect to you review. I still view your video as somewhat informative.

i have the 7.62 version its great i havent had a problem i wouldnt get 556 bolt gun anyway

The AR15 magazine well is much deeper and stabilizes the magazine. They need to tighten up the tolerances in the shorter MVP well. I had to buy a steel magazine and weld a shim to it to stabilize it. All in all the gun is junk and I no longer own it.

What I get from this is spend the extra money and buy a better rifle

From the other videos I have seen here with reviews I think you must have done something to the rifle . Mossberg builds a nice rifle land my MVP fits well with my others that cost me much more. As for some gun dealers saying not to buy think of them as trying to sell you a product that cost much more.$$$$$$$$.

Never had a problem with any mag other than the cheap plastic ones over 20 . I now have over 2500 rounds through her with only a few rounds not feeding . Bolt is still solid and my mags are as lose as the day I first loaded them up. Yes a tighter mag might be better but as long as that cause no problem in my MVP Patrol I could really care less.

What was the outcome of contacting Mossberg about your MVP. I just bought one and have only put about 50 rounds through it. Mine came with a 10 round pmag that says mossberg on it and feeds great so far. I tried a 30 round pmag and it worked as well. It shoots the cheap 55gr ammo with 2-3inch groups but the remington accu-tip and hornady vmax at just under 1". The bolt feeds smooth. Just wandering how Mossberg costumer service treatef you.

I purchased one and found it worked great so far. (first 200 rds) I did however switch to magpul 10 rounders, they fit just right. The mag that came with it was too loose & wouldn't feed right w/steel ammo. it liked the am eagle brass just fine but I like to feed ammo without having to push the mag up for the first few rds.

Maybe ill spend the money on the ruger gunsite scout

Thanks for your review, you just saved a lot of us some grief...or maybe some of us a lot of grief depending on when that bolt handle decides to break off.

I recently purchased the same gun and have also experienced problems. The magazine is so sloppy that it the tips of the bullets hang down below the beginning of the feed ramp. I have to push up on magazine every time I cycle a round in order to get it into the chamber. Sometimes they cock sideways and jam. I tried various other AR magazines with the same results. This gun is definitely over priced. I don't like the grabber tab that hangs down on the front of the bolt, it looks like a week link to me. Another problem I have had is misfires. Two of the five types of ammo I have used have produced ten to fifteen percent misfire rates. I also think the stock is cheap. I emailed Mossberg with a warranty question and it took them over a week to respond. Every time I call them I am on hold for longer than I have time to wait because I have to go back to work. I will have to keep on trying.
