    First language is english and I do speak some spanish. Around 40 years ago I used to work at a food processing company. My title was supervisor for women, and we had a supervisor for the men workers. Mostly spanish was spoken there. So one day the supervisor for the men came to ask me if I wanted to work on Saturdays and I answered him, No way I'm going to work on Saturday's. Later that day, the manager from the company asked me what I had told the supervisor about me working on sarurday, so I told him exactly what I said. He gave a giggle and that in Mexico saying the word way to a person is a bad word but the meaning is different in the US.

    ¡Hola, Stephanie! Mi película favorita (sin duda) es Pan's Labyrinth (El laberinto del fauno). Este año he mejorado mi español un montón y la miré otra vez. No es posible quitar los subtítulos ingleses pero pude entender mucho español y el significado de la película cambia mucho cuando se puede entender español. También me encanta "The Orphanage" (El orfanato). ¡Ambas son buenísimas!

    "That's harassment." 😂. Hola desde San Francisco. Yo sé que eres de Colombia. ¿Todavía vives allí? La primera vez que miré un video de tu canal pensaba, "Creo que ella está viviendo en los Estados Unidos". Cerca de mi casa hay una gasolinera con dos mujeres mexicanas mayores. Ellas siempre han sido muy educadas pero nunca hablaron mucho. Un día comencé a hablar en español. Ellas estaban muy sorprendidas (y muy felices) y ahora platicamos durante dos o tres minutos cada vez que estoy allí para comprar café. A veces no quiero tomar café pero todavía lo compro para que pueda hablar con ellas. :)

    I've heard/seen numerous time that "parquear" isn't real Spanish, that it's a Spanglish word. Is this true?

    • @deunaspanishschool6816
      @deunaspanishschool6816 3 месяца назад

      Great observation. "Parquear" is a word recognized in the RAE dle.rae.es/parquear , therefore is a real word in the Spanish language. Some synonyms could be: "aparcar", "estacionar". It would be interesting to know if it was a word adopted from English or just one of the many words that are almost the same such as "computador", "ignorar", etc.

    • @notsoanonymous2458
      @notsoanonymous2458 3 месяца назад

      @@deunaspanishschool6816 I'm curious about the etymology of the word, primarily when it was added to the Spanish lexicon. My best guess is that it's an example of a slang word officially becoming part of a language or dialect. I'm also curious to hear if older Spanish speakers in non U.S. countries were familiar with its use when they were younger, say 30+ years ago.

    • @deunaspanishschool6816
      @deunaspanishschool6816 3 месяца назад

      @@notsoanonymous2458 I know a man who is 85 years old who worked in a "parqueadero" (parking lot) and he's been using that lexicon for decades, I guess we will have to go even further in the past. Something else to consider is that the word "parquear" is widely used in Colombia, but in other countries they say "estacionar" o "aparcar." Etymology is so interesting.

Después de una semana, me dijo, "Papá, yo sé que no existe el Tooth Fairy porque mi diente ha estado debajo de mi almohada durante una semana." Muchas gracias por compartir tus tradiciones.
