New Okuma Rockaway rod and a new Z-Man bait that catches more surf fish than the sand worm imo!
Просмотров 6 тыс.Месяц назад
I fished for about 3-4 hours and caught 8 fish total using my new Okuma Rockaway SP rod and the Z-Man curly tail grub in motor oil color. And I used only ONE bait for all of the catches! These Z-Man grubs are strong, durable and they don't just break apart like the sand worms. And they're on sale for like 4 bucks for a pack of 8! Link below. To me, the Berkley Gulp sand worms work but they just...

That the first fish you caught is illegal to keep since you hooked it by the body and not the mouth.
Interesting, didnt know that! Thanks for the heads up.
If you had stripers in Hawaii, you think it would be popular game fish for locals?
There is a similar fish in Hawaii called Oio or Bonefish. That's their version of striper!
Try the pipes on a good tide at the Fisherman's park incoming tide on lagoon side is hot. 1/2 oz silver/blue back rattle traps never Fale. Lucky Craft LV 500 3/4 oz when the wind is blowing.
I've seen ppl catching down there! been meaning to head down there and coyote park one of these days. Thanks for the info! 🤙
This looks amazing. I live in SF and am trying to find cool spots that aren't just the pier. Do you think you can drop the location ?
@@clydev7512 brisbane/ssf. Pier fishing isn't my thing!
Are you afraid to touch a fish?
@petekraus5067 not at all! I have a skin condition on my left hand and salt water irritates it so i wear the glove. I use the lip grip so I don't get hooked when the fish thrash around!
I subscribed nice videos man I' need some good luck this video will get me in the mood
@1luxuryliner440 good luck and tight lines! 🤙🏼
Are you slow retrieving the fisher finder rig or are you usually letting it sit?
@cobramanphil I usually slow retrieve so the line has less of a chance to get tangled up. Plus I think it might give the bait some extra movement?
@@gc_in_dc Okay thanks for the information. I usually just use the fish finder rig if I am baiting/waiting (have to use a heavy weight). If I'm slow retrieving I usually use a carolina rig...I'll try your method this weekend...to see if that stirs up more perch catches..
Nice stripper there!! LOL. I had guessed that was off the 101 in South City. I fish the Petaluma River sometimes around Shollenbarger Park. Very relaxing.
Except the kayaks don't care about you fishing!!!!
Near oyster point

all good! there's plenty space and fish for everyone
which beach is this bro?
Montara
@@gc_in_dcoh wow by moss beach… i thought Dungeness season ended?
@@kaushiknair510 Yep it ended on 6/30!
I’ve been noticing more crabs in the open lately and they’ve all pretty much been females
Is that lucky craft? And where did you buy mage speed?
Thanks for being quite transparent on gear and location(for most part) for those of us who fish more than we catch. Nice simple videos we can relate to.
@marke.1021 I think we all do more fishing than catching and if I can help people catch then it's all good! 🤙🏼 tight lines
should've let him go
Where is that place?? I’m trying to figure it out cause I live in San Jose !! Can u tell me what place is there?
Brisbane/SSF!
Nice spot! What was the tide situation? I'll be heading here soon!
I don't remember that particular day but usually as long as it's a positive tide it's somewhat decent
Good stuff my man! You briefly mentioned it, but what rod/size and reel are you rockin?
This one is the 10' Okuma Rockaway with a Penn Pursuit 4000. Not a very expensive setup and i like it a lot!
I laughed right away as you said no wind. 🤣 That NEVER happens for me!
🤣
So you went across the San Mateo bridge to the union city\ Hayward side???
No, this is in brisbane. Haha yeh last I heard, fish don't sleep! I don't always make a plan to fish but when I do it's random depending on conditions and i'm usually at the brisbane marina.
What’s the best lure for stripers ? Do hard plastic lures like jerkbaits work better than soft plastics?
Nice one🎣👍👊
It’s a keeper! 👨🏼🦲👌🏼
Glad to see you using that Lip-Grip as often as you can. Sometimes is a fuss but makes getting the hooks out so much safer. Lighten the drag up and wear the fish out and let'm run as more fun ..well for me any way. Nice Video all the same.
@marke.1021 yes I agree! I've seen one too many people get hooked by a thrashing fish. I used to do the lighter drag but felt I lost too many fish that was because it wasn't tight enough. 🤷🏽♂️
Thanks. I wasn't sure what the best way it is to retrieve a calista.
@peterbedford2610 I don't know that that's the best way but I sometimes switch it up from slow to fast to jerk, etc.
What’s your preferred time to go fishing in the bay? I’ve always heard either 1-2 hours before high tide or no matter what tide just go during sunrise and sunset
@ethankirkpatrick6039 I usually go early morning no matter what the tide is because in this area the wind kicks up to 12+ mph at around 1pm on most days. I've also caught stripers at high and low tide so I can't explain it! 🤙🏼tight lines
What part of the bay is this? I dont need any specific spots, i am over by Emeryville/Berkely and cant quite figure where to go for good clean access to the water
Brisbane/SSF! I've been seeing a few guys catching stripers on that side. Shorebird/Cesar Chavez park or the Bulb.
@@gc_in_dc Thanks for the pointers! I'll have to tie on a swim bait and do some leg work!
Looks like the oracle building
@billlaflaur1120 oracle is about 15 miles south

Some noisy braid, whatcha using?
Yeah I had to get off the vid very annoying
That one is the KastKing braid. Not sure why it makes that sound? I'll have to try a different brand. Any rec's?
@@gc_in_dc I recommend Berkley X9, its super smooth and silent. Cheaper "chinese" Amazon braid isn't smooth and the braid pattern and material they use to manufacture the line is inferior.
@@gc_in_dcdaiwa j braid 👌🏾

Good time fishing!!! @13:50 on the left screen, I think that was a fished that jumped!
Lol I didn't even notice that! Oftentimes I see fish jump and other fishy activities in the water.
I just got into surf fishing. I’ve been chasing trout in the sierras for 20 years. I figured I’ll be applying my trout techniques in the ocean. Double drop shot, Texas rig swimbaits, jerkbaits and Carolina. I have the okuma rockaway 10’ medium with a Penn pursuit 4000, 20lb braid to 20lb fluro. Planning to make that my double drop shot rig. I want to get a rockaway medium light with 15lb braid for all my jerkbaits and swimbaits. Subbed 🤙🏾.
@hvega8199 that's just about the same set up that I use!
Wow! That's a fine morning of fishing and catching. Do you fish the north bay? I haven't had much luck in the south bay'. Seems like there's lots of stripers being caught in the surf along the coast.
@ronmodafferi8202 probably one my best striper days! Super fun. I don't fish the north bay, mostly around the peninsula bay and surf.
@@gc_in_dc I used to fish Millbrae Ave (and 4 th Avenue SM) with my Dad in the late '50's when it was cattail lined shoreline and no hotels. Do you ever fish Coyote Point or Francis Beach?
@ronmodafferi8202 I've been wanting to fish coyote but never have! Francis Beach, yes. I like it down there and need to go again soon!
@@gc_in_dc I frequently fish both places but living in the east bay it's 1-2 hours of driving each way. Coyote is pleasant if not windy and good if fish are "there"!! It's better in a spot where one needs to wade which I don't do at 80 years old.
you sooo right about ppl keeping secrets..its like for god sake you going for PORCINI MUSHROOMS where the PORCINI actually RE-GROW into the same spot... I know that beach pretty good, I caught 2 stripers and 3 large smelt... STRIPERS with Caroline rig and BERK 2in worm ...yup.
@Geppetto-xj1td I have yet to catch a striper on the Carolina rig but hopefully soon! 🤙🏼
Is this west coat ? Near Pacifica

@hvega8199 love gherkins! Aloha and tight lines 🤙🏼
let's go!
New angler here, if you don’t mind me asking what jetty is this?
It isn't a jetty. It's the bay coast trail in the sf bay.
Fishing is better than work! But no work, no gas money to drive to my favorite fishing spot.. awesome fishing my friend… 👍🎣💪💯
Well said!
that fishing hit after you stopped reeling for 3sec
I guess pauses do work!
Yeah I dont get why people get mad about fishing spots getting exposed, like 95% of the time I go fishing to the spots no one is there fishing. People will go fishing at different time/days when they can. Just enjoy and be thankful you get to fish that day because damn after 5 days of working to pay bills, I just want to be out and relax. At the beach there will always be fishermens and we have alot of beach parks, a whole stretch in the coastline so dont tell me your gonna cry about me burning the spot just because of some photo/video I posted. People think the coastline is a secret spot lmao
Spot on and thank you for agreeing with me! Just relax and fish 🤙
Fish have fins, they don't just stay in "your spot" Thanks for sharing. We need to hook up and go fishing, I live less than 5 mins from Oyster Point
That's the new short butt/handle Okuma Rockaway SP 8'6" rod? Doe sit cast the LC far enough? What were you throwing 1 1/3 OZ that's like 7"? Do you lose action with hook changes?
This is the 10' Rockaway with a longer butt. I can probably throw the LC like 40 yards or so, give or take. I actually talk about it in a video that i'll be posting soon! Yeh the FIsherman's Life lure is 1.35oz and 6" or so. The LC still gets good action with a little bigger/stronger hook!
Heyy bro you got a instagram i wanna ask you some question for fishing really need help please i would appreciate it brother
Awesome comtent... subbed!!!
Is that Montara???
Yessir!
Bro where did you find the 10ft Rockaway SP? I think I been to every tackleshop and they are sold out and backordered. They are very hard to get at the moment!
I got it on Amazon a couple months ago before everyone was trying to get it! I originally wanted to get the hawaiian custom but was late to that game and got this instead. Love the SP so far!
Good choice! Really light rod for a 10ft. I like fishing with light tackle, it feels good with a fish on. I already purchased a new reel for the SP, I just dont have the rod lol. Cant wait to get my hands on that!
@JtDev91 super light. Hope you find one soon!
rod light but the guides are so small could get into an issue later that easy to break
@@fishwithme9245I think it will only break if it gets stepped on or mishandling the rod because my 9’6 celilo has small guides, its held up for 4 years and its still strong. Caught many stripers on it, biggest is 38”. My goto rod if the swells are not too crazy
Which camera you are using?
This one is from the GoPro 9. My recent vid and going forward is the 10. Basically the same camera!
Smelts kept you busy. An informative video. What length is your grub? Do you know how that rod compares to a Hawaiian Custom 10'7" rod?
They do keep you busy for sure! I think it's a 2 1/2" grub. The link should be in the description below. I've never used the Hawaiian custom so I can't compare. I've been wanting to get one but probably won't now because I really like the SP!
@@gc_in_dc are those Z man baits the kind that can't be stored with other rubber baits. Are they tough to get a hook through?
@@ronmodafferi8202 I'm not really sure because i just opened it and have only used the one bait. But it seems pretty durable and don't think it will melt like some other baits and the color doesn't seem like it will blend with others. Easy to get the hook thru tho!
they will melt whatever they touch@@ronmodafferi8202
Awesome day fishing! How are you liking the rockaway? I'm debating trying the rockaway or hawaiian custom.
I like it a lot! I couldn't find a hawaiian custom at the time so I got the Rockaway. I recently got the Rockaway SP but haven't had a chance to get out to the surf to try it out. Maybe this weekend!
Use bloodworm cast far and wait.
I'm not much of a bait and wait type but a lot of times when you do, you'll catch a bat ray or shark and I'm not into catching those species.
