What?

There is a problem with the engine, something is knocking, it needs repair. Turbine or something near it. The car is very good, reliable. The fuel level indicator is working, 3 liters of gasoline in the tank. Usually the problem is with the float, measure the resistance.

@@IK-83 Somethjng knocking huh? Doesn't sound good. Might be simply injectors, timing not right, or something with the valves? Worst case it's the rod bearings, but it doesn't sound that hard of a knock. And thanks for your answer. It used to work sort of, was showing empty when it wasn't, and sometimes it would show half a tank when it was full. I had to remove the cluster to fix the lcd monitor and its infamous missing pixels (replaced it), so I could inspect the cluster and even remove the needles of each gauche to disassemble the unit and get to the lcd, put everything back together, and it was showing the same behavior as before, no change. I even made sure to clean the plugs and everything before reassembly. So I took a look to the whole pump assembly in the trunk, behind the rear seat, and pulled it out. Everything looked ok, it wasn't even that dirty for a diesel tank. The wires were still intact and the solders too. Put everything back together, and now it's showing me the empty tank alert on dashboard all of the time, on top of the fuel gauge not working. I tried, while ignition was on, to move the floater with my hand in the tank hole, moving it up or down, but nothing moved on the cluster. So at this point I have absolutely no idea if it is the floater assembly on the pump assembly, or if it comes from the pannel instrument itself. I'm not really good with electonics eihters, I have a multimeter, but don't really know how I should test anything to find out who's in wrong.

@@BXtremP Most likely, connecting rod rings, I will repair the engine in the summer. The fuel level arrow rises slowly, about 15 minutes until it is fully matched. Sometimes it helps to reset errors with the ELM adapter. That's what they write about your problem: I solved this problem like this: 1. I checked the sensors in the tank via VAG. I went to the dashboard 17. 4 measurement group 2 and 4 window show resistance. So you definitely shouldn't go into the tank. 2. I did a test of the device the arrow is walking. 3. I started thinking from the opposite of what started with that and start digging. i.e. with fuses. By the way, the device worked fine except for the level. 4. Pulled out the fuse 15. He turned on the ignition. I inserted the fuse and the arrow twitched. He turned off the ignition. I turned it on again and everything is OK. Options if it didn't help. They say some of them did it. 1. Remove the battery terminal for 5 minutes. 2. Open the tank lid and push the valve back with something. Close the lid until it clicks. 3. Cleaning the filter under the tank. It's not for sale. It is sawn in half, then cleaned and glued back. 4. Replacing the level sensors in the tank or cleaning their contacts to begin with. 5. Remove the chip from the sensor and short-circuit the wire that goes to the instrument panel, the fuel level meter.

⁠​⁠@@BXtremPHey there, I’m not sure if that’s relevant, but my friend had the same fuel gauge problem on his 06 fx35, it was showing empty when there was a quarter of a tank or less. Turned out that was a worn out chip on the float, the little tracks on it were worn too deep, and they weren’t separated anymore. So you can probably go to the local junkyard, take that chip out of the sending unit of one of those cars, and replace it. I hope that made sense!

Its probably one of those low stress engines that last forever. Its on par with the cummins for power per displacement.
