Chip Carving How-To: Carving Circles
This is a video I released to Patreon subscribers last year. Carving circular V-groove lines is tricky and it requires a little practice. In this video I give you some tips for how to get clean results including suggestions for order of cuts, controlling the depth of the cut at specific points, and how to "lead" the knife with your eye.
If you want to see more trouble-shooting videos like this, please do me a favor-give it a like, and subscribe to my channel. You can learn more about my work, my chip carving how-to book, online and in person classes, and the carving kits and supplies I sell on my website:

This video includes some excerpts from the first Office Hours session. The topic for this meeting was sharpening and I took a brand new kn...
Chip Carving How-To: Calibrate Your Cuts
Просмотров 4,7 тыс.Год назад
This is a video I released to Patreon subscribers last year. I see this problem all the time with beginning chip carvers: Your knife is sharp, you've got a good grip on it, you're using proper technique, but somehow your cut always skews off the line. Check out the video for a quick tweak that may help you move past this all-too-common problem. If you want to see more trouble-shooting videos li...

It's nice, but it also looks like he isn't following all the lines, if so, he needs to explain how to get to this point for novice carvers. You can't do unwritten rules for beginners - unless you explain. I'm sorry that doesn't work.

Hi. Sorry, I gave this a thumbs down as you didn't explain what you were doing. Why do you need to sharpen and new blade? What were the terms you used like "abrade the sides"? What grit of stone, and what type of stones are you using etc.? By the way, I have seen other videos of yours that were very useful.

    • @DanielClayWoodworking

You mean the pencil lines? Just erase and give a very very light sanding with fresh 220 sandpaper. Very light, with the paper wrapped around a scrap block.
