There's just something timeless about house music. From its roots in Chicago in the late 70s and 80s, that four-to-the-floor signature rhythm of house music permeates dance music today.
The most surprising thing for me is how the overall house music aesthetic stayed intact throughout the decades: a four-to-the-flour drum rhythm accompanied by hi-hats, snare / claps, a bassline, and synths on top.
Vocals are important - just ask Robin S and The Nightcrawlers - but some of the biggest house songs don't have full-on vocal tracks: they're cut up and sampled from other records or media (the movie Trading Places in the case of the Ha Dance) which are then arranged onto the track.
