It stopped because you were using your drone in the ride area, also the "handbrake" as you call it cant fail, because it doesn't exist. It's held from rollingback from anti-rollback slots on the track holding the train in place.

Brilliant video mate - I have walked and cycled this route countless times now, so much history in this clip. Its changed so much since I was a kid and I am 40, lord knows what it must be like for the oldies who watch this video. I think one thing I found a bit sad was all the pubs that have closed along this route, I know Manchester itself is a much nicer, safer place - with trendy bars and much better food. Some of those pubs though - for good and bad, I am sorry to see them go.
