The area is still pumping oil and the old Kendall refinery is still producing product. If you've ever seen Brad-Penn motor oil, that is one of the products. Due to the high paraffin content, the oil is best used for motor oils, other lubricants, and components of asphalt. There is still a producing well in the drivethru of the Bradford McDonalds.

The hexagram was used by native american tribes with different tribes having different meanings. In some it was a symbol of the connection to ones ancestors, or the connection of the physical and spiritual world. It was a pretty common symbol of many different cultures throughout history.

Thanks for the kind words! The cars were looking good! As far as the turkeys, I was getting a little nervous because they kept coming in like they wanted me to get out of their way. A flock of pissed off wild turkeys is not what I wanted to tangle with lol.

I grew up right down the road in Bellwood. It was quite a few years since I had been back to the firetower and it is in pretty rough shape. There is 10 foot chainlink around it and I believe they pulled the first 20 or 30 feet of stairs. When I was up this trip it looked like someone had worked the gate on the chainlink over pretty good. It was just too cold that day to spend much time looking closely at it, but I sure wouldn't try climbing it today. Of course it may just be I have developed some common sense over the years lol. @AbraKaDabraAdventures hopefully you find a few! I'm not sure where you are coming from but the Punkin Chunkin festival at Bald Eagle State Park in October is always a great time. I was there two years ago, and it's on the calendar for this year. The Elk around Benezette,PA in Mid-september through mid-october during the rut is always impressive!

Add the Western Maryland Scenic RR to your list. After 1309 returns to service. Their fall foliage trains are fantastic, and the Polar Express trains are a real treat for the family. Right now everything is behind diesel, but hopefully 1309 will be back in service soon. It's always better behind steam! We're in that gray area, either Central PA or Western PA, depending on where whoever you ask lives lol

@@raptorPA Raptor. Here's a story my mother told me about that happened when she was a child living in Bradford in the in the late1920s. She and her girl friend were playing in a pump house that was in operation. My mother's friend got too close to that large engine and her dress got caught in the large spinning flywheel. It picked her up off the ground and did a complete revolution before tossing her out when her dress broke free. Had her dress not torn she would have been killed. Lastly, I remember sitting in class at the Hobson Place School and listening to the symphony of those pump house engines. They always made a big noise on the combustion stroke.

@jacobkeppler1984 Yes he is! Bob Emerson. He was the Executive Director at Fort Roberdeau in the late 70's, early 80's and made his way to Fort Niagara. He comes back every year for Roberdeau's Rev War weekend and occasionally for other weekend events. Bob is a fount of knowledge on the period.

1309, the steam loco that had been in service developed cylinder/piston issues in Dec 2023 on a Polar Express train and has been in the shop. Parts for an 80 year old locomotive are not an off the shelf item lol so it has been a slow process getting her back into shape. Their other steam engine is in the process of a major rebuild. Hopefully 1309 will be back on the rail's in time for this year's fall foliage trains and polar express trains. You can follow their Facebook page to find out when the thunder comes back to the mountain!

Baker Mansion and the Railroaders Museum are both open for tours in season. Not haunted tours, but history tours although both have embraced the stories and have offered October events with a haunted focus the last few years.

There are a lot of versions of the story so there may be a version along Blacksnake. All 3 roads are close to each other. Off the top of my head I can't think of anywhere along Blacksnake that has the sheer dropoffs like the other 2, but I could be wrong as I realy use Blacksnake. Maybe once or twice in 10 years lol.
