    I'm halfway through my temporary (professional) visa and found your info extremely useful, tho thanks for sharing. SENESCYT, the entity that approves US degrees for the professional visa, was abhorrently slow for my temp visa---did you have any issues with getting an "updated certificate of registered degree, as noted in your video? I was displeased with my attorney and will use someone else for the permanent visa--do you have any idea if that will elongate the updated SENESCYT approval? Thanks.

    • @nomadicnerd-travels
      @nomadicnerd-travels Месяц назад

      Hello and thank you for watching, I am glad the information was useful. SENESCYT certainly moves at their own pace. When I did Perm Resident, the step for the updated certificate was something my lawyer handled. To be honest, it was a background tasks that she said she would handle and did. As far as I know there were no problems. As for changing lawyers affecting the process? I really cannot answer that with confidence. I would hope not. SENESCYT has all your information and I assume so do you. I would suggest you pick your new attorney and ask them. The lady I used is linked in the video. I have actually used 3 services here because we used different ones for my wife to try others. For my wife temporary we used Ingrid Rodríguez Velasco with success. Ingrid is a general practice lawyer here in Manta. For Perm for my wife, to mix it up, we tried a popular non-lawyer group. That was a mistake :(. Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions and if your in Manta, always happy to grab a beer.

    The card is used for land entry, not arrivals by air. They will not ask for the card unless you are entering the US by land. Also, they will background check you for your entire life, not just the past 7-10 years. I had a situation when I applied in 2023. I was conditionally approved, went to the interview, they asked me about the incident from 1988 and I honestly had forgotten all about it. Based on what they found, I was denied. The interviewer did say I could appeal, but there was no timeline on appeals. Fast forward 16 months, and I received an e-mail from TSA stating that my status had changed and to log on. The person who handled my appeal agreed that since there had been no additional issues for me since 1988, I was not considered a threat. I received my approval for Global Entry, and my new number. I already had TSA pre-check, but because I now have global entry, my CBP account was consolidated into the new number. Very informative video!

    • @nomadicnerd-travels
      @nomadicnerd-travels 2 года назад

      Yes, Mexico is obvious and real reasonable. Ex Pats have some weird rules on buying land and the beach areas are not that cheap. But short of that, I would hang out there a lot. Why Ecuador? My wife likes the beaches. Its on the US $$ and we can own beach front if we chose. Its cheap and does not tax foreign income which I think Mexico does (Not tax advice) and My Wife likes the beaches. (Yea, I said that twice). Uruguay, I have only looked at a little. It sounds awesome. I have to pop back to the US for work which made it less appealing to me. Flights are a lot longer. But I want to visit. The other problem with Uruguay is, it does not have the beaches my wife likes. (We can see who chooses in my family). I don't know how long we will be in Ecuador, its a starting point. We may end up in Uruguay or the EU. Who knows.

    Curious, do you know if you need to set up a company overseas and then pay yourself in order for this to work? I've heard of people saying that they've setup a company "abroad" and then have gotten the "foreign earned income exclusion", trying to figure out if this is required or can you keep getting paid by a U.S. company directly on say a W2 or 1099, and still qualify without having to set up your own company overseas and then pay yourself, essentially having to do a Corp to Corp type of thing with a client U.S. company. Not sure if I can link this here, but here is a video I was watching of a guy that went to Ukraine before the war a couple of years ago that was breaking it down that I found interesting. Thanks for sharing the video. To the best of my understanding you do not need to setup a foreign company for the tax exclusion. Like I mentioned, I have had what I said validated by a couple of tax pros, and a friend has done it but I recommend consulting your own tax expert. What I am talking about you can reduce your taxable income. And if you make less than 108,500 yes you can skip federal income taxes (Still have to file). Social Security and Medicare taxes still are due. There are probably lots of fancy ways to structure your income to skip taxes that I have never heard of. Good luck.

    I've heard that one can only use this unit with ResMed masks. I've tried a ton of masks and my Phillips Dreamwear unit is the only thing that works. Any thoughts about this? Thanks a ton. David

      That ResMed mini has its own special connector. But you can pick up an adapter to work with a more standard mask. I used the below connector for a night. But personally the special nasal mask that comes with ResMed mini is nice. Very low profile. But if you want to use your regular mask you can get this: www.amazon.com/dp/B07MM2RQSZ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_glt_i_RJ6JPWN4KYAJ4EG8MRMK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

    Which consulate in the states did you go to? what's the name and city of the airbnb you stayed at?

      Portland. They were real nice. They would not let me apply for permanent residency as a retired person without a pension or social security but they were nice about it.

      As far as the city in Mexico. I went to Cabo and stayed in San Jose del cabo. I have a video here on that place

    Sorry for replying under two different profiles. I wanted to add I hear a lot of variation in time to get the residency card. Ranging from my experience of a couple hours to months of waiting. I picked cabo because I heard it was fast. And it seemed like a nice place to wait if I had to wait 😀 A suspect key to getting the card fast is going in prepared.

    How long did it take to get your green card once you went to the consulate? Did you have to make an appointment?

      Yes I had to make an appointment. The facilitator i used made it for me. The appointment took about 2 hours and I walked out with my residency card.

      For the US half of the paper work, I did it myself. In Mexico, I used www.mexperience.com/ They helped with the paper work and made an appointment for me. Since I used the INM in Cabo San Lucas they did not have an office there and I was on my own for the meeting. I took a friend who spoke Spanish to help me. The office in Cabo was really easy to work with. I was out of there in a couple hours, residency card in hand

      Don't know what the price is now, but it was about 100 a night at the time - has changed owners, so don't know what it is now. We didn't see any a b and b close to 700/night in Manta.
