Here's my review of the Slimline Roofrack from FrontRunner! If you aren't familiar with them, FrontRunner is a company that makes vehicle equipment for any overland trips you want to take. They specialize in Jeep, Toyota, and Subaru overland equipment and this is a great option if you're looking to start going off the beaten path more. I've had this roofrack on my 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness...

Gas Mileage in my 2023 Outback Wilderness
Просмотров 19 тыс.Год назад
Today I'm going over what kind of gas mileage I've been getting in my Subaru Outback Wilderness. I made a chart and everything!! I wrote a log over the last couple of months every time I went to the gas station and tried to see what kind of gas mileage I was getting, especially compared with what the Wilderness is rated at (26 highway and 21 city). Near the end of the video, I go over the EPA e...
Why I Chose A Wilderness (over other Outbacks)
Просмотров 29 тыс.Год назад
Hey there! In today's video, I go over my thought process on why I bought a 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness model instead of the other trims, like the Premium or the Onyx. I talk about why I wanted some of the Wilderness specific features, when they come in handy, and even how it compares in off road driving to something like a Jeep Wrangler. Spoiler alert: don't try to take it on the Rubicon Tr...

Outback Wilderness No Build Camper

Hey there! This video is about how I turned my 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness into a sleeper camper for life on the road! I like to take long trips and needed somewhere to sleep while on the road, so I figured I'd turn my new Outback into a portable tent. Dude….you talk A LOT without saying anything. Get to the point !!!
You talk WAY too much without saying anything. Get to the point ! Thumbs down 👎🏻
Thanks for sharing
Do they even still sell this?
A long sheepskin with fur on the bottom is quite cushioning. The longer and denser the fur, the better padding it is
Be curious to know if the mounting brackets mar or scratch the OEM rails.
Portable car jumper saved me on my last camping trip
Have you added anything for air exchange @talesfromtheoutback? I have been looking for a vent van that would attach to the rear windows but haven't located one.
I am deciding between the 2.5 and the 2.4 turbo this week…THANK YOU FOR THIS VERY TIMELY VIDEO!!
Great tips! Thank you for making this video.
New to me 2014 OB Limited. Just getting it all together for kayaking and camping. How do I level the slant between head and feet? It does not go fully flat. I do not want to have a built platform. What is simple, yet eases the difference between the front and rear of the sleeping surface? Layers of blankets? suggestions anyone?
Can you mount a roof top tent on this roof rack?
Great video! It is more about the speed. I have a tear drop I pull with my Lexus GX 470. 75 mph vs 60 mph makes a huge difference. I get around 7 to 8 miles per gallon when I am pulling at 70-75 mph. Hard to do a cross country trip with that. I just bought a Toyota sienna, I am getting a Yakima rear hitch mount/box set up. This way I can still drive 75 mph on the high way and still get great gas milage. Just another way of looking at things. 😊
Flip the rear seats headrest around will give you more length at the top.
Aren’t the interior lights on your car led? Will they really run down the battery overnight?
I loved the way it drove on the test drive. The suspension was cloud-like. Engine was a peach as well. My only two wishes would be for larger windows and slightly more driver space for my 6’4 frame. I’m REALLY looking forward to seeing what changes come for the 26” model!
Great video. I truly enjoyed it. I was thinking about doijg something similar, ans all of a sudden it hit me: what's wrong with a nice tent that takes very little time to set up?
Great video!
What is the name of the lantern?
Coming from an Escalade to a 2024 OBW , I get great gas mileage. 😂😂😂 I love it
Thanks for the review. We are working on developing more clear instructions. We appreciate your feedback.
Thanks again for another informative video on the Outback; a vehicle I may purchase (short list against a RAV4 Adventure), but waiting to see what kind of version comes next with either product in 2025 or mid 2026, if Putin doesn’t draw us into WW3 before that 🙏🏼 or other crazy stuff like someone tries to become King/Autocrat like Putin, expects complete loyalty/submission and does away with 4-year terms and democracy itself. God bless. Anyway, I’ve seen similar fuel economy penalties with trucks, which I own (2500 series). Driving 5 mph slower and even more can save a lot of $$$ and is safer for emergency maneuvering reasons.
My NA Forester Sport seems to suffer immensely from the speed penalty too. I rarely attain sticker fuel numbers. This is the first car I've had that issue with. And I used to own Honda Element!
Once I started tracking my fuel and keeping an eye on the speeds, it really is amazing how much it drops after a certain MPH
Where did you get the wind deflector from?
it's Frontrunner as well (I believe it's named the "wind fairing" deflector now if you go on the website); It's actually pretty easy to install. But like the roof rack I'd wait till it goes on sale if you can; usually get a pretty good discount
What size wind fairing did you end up getting?
EDITOR'S NOTE: at about the 7 and a half minute mark I start talking about the lengths of trips for a Subaru; I should correct myself and say I was talking about 2-3 month long trips, not 2 weeks! The Subaru (and by extension the FrontRunner rack) are more than capable of going on multi-month trips and I think I was referring to trails like the Rubicon where a Subaru can't really go. Anyway, carry on!
Just bought a 22 wilderness. I’m paralyzed but want to get back out into the woods. Thanks for the tips, great video!
How are you liking the Wilderness so far? And glad you enjoyed the video!
I’m paraplegic and have slept in the back of my 2006 Liberty wagon and 2023 outback. Depending on your level of injury and ability, the newer outback is a fantastic car, but I find transferring up into the boot of the outback a bit of a struggle. I’m 5’4. I also had less headroom in the outback than the older Liberty. Unfortunately my old Liberty was a GT tuned by sti and was super low to the ground, so driving off-road was limited and the reason I got the outback in the first place. I’ve now got a box trailer my mate is setting up for me to haul my scooter for better camping mobility, and we’re rigging it up so that I can sleep in it also
What is the max bed length ?
Great video. My wife has an outback and I drive a JLU Wrangler. I really like the wilderness outback trim, but I told her it would be crazy for us to own 2 outbacks :)
I bought my wife a 22 OB Prem and a 24 Onyx XT for myself. Call me crazy all you want but it's basically the only Japanese wagon available here in the US.
There must be something wrong with mine because I get 17-19mpg driving around the city
My 2021 Impreza manual sport hatchback gets about 22 mpg city, but I still wouldn't trade it for the CVT 😂.
More videos please... have you quit?
My 2012 Toyota Venza is very similar to the Subaru Outback. I have been living in it for over a year and a half and find it VERY pleasurable and comfortable. Only a minivan might be better, but I like the stationwagon type of vehicle. Tightly taping garbage bags to all windows behind the front seats works extremely well for privacy.
Great videos you’ve got! One recommendation I’d make is the factory side window rain-guards, definitely worth the investment for so many reasons. And take out the spare tire styrofoam thing… I use that for extra storage in my wilderness. The jack fits fine against the tire. Love the wilderness in that color!
Good call on the spare tire foam thing . I was fiddling around with the spare tire one day and was like is this really necessary haha
Never saw that green color.
Cool video! Rooftop storage is a game changer.
I average 16mpg in Orlando, I also have ko2 tires. At 80+ on the interstate the mpg is terrible, the fuel tank needs to be a little bigger for driving cross country
Yea I've noticed even with just the stock tires if you go anywhere above 75+ MPH your MPG will plumet
Thanks for the video, bonus points because you're wearing an Ipswich Town shirt!
Haha a little late to this but thanks!! Here's hoping they can secure a Premier league ticket!!!
Very helpful; thanks!
got my 24 wilderness cause i just always liked the way that it looked. i wanted the better ratio for the low end torque around town.
I just did this last month, On a whim for my vacation I took a road trip from TX to UT and CA and back to TX. My 2024 Outback Touring XT was very comfortable. I would do it again without question.
Brian, mate, this is HANDS DOWN the best video on the real essentials one needs to camp in the car. You need more subscribers. I've subbed and will look on your channel for what else I can learn before I set off on my own adventures! ;)
Sleeping with a fan is actually essential for me so is that actually a necessity technically because I wouldn't be able to sleep all that well
Great video. Just ordered my OBW. I went with the Exped MegaMat medium wide… so should have storage behind driver side as well as roof top box. What tint percent did you get?
Your friend seems dope, and I love your Subaru shenanigans/adventures. Sincerely, the next Subaru shenanigans RUclipsr to be hanging out with ;P
Try a K&N air filter just saying made my mpg better
Hmm...Stream deck, Rode mic, Alienware...I'm guessing you're a fellow gamer/streamer too?
I slept in the back of my 2021 Outback very comfortably, no problem what so ever. Looking forward to sleeping in the back of my now 2024 Outback Wilderness.
Simple reasons. I got a 2024 Outback Wilderness for road tripping and car camping with it. I like the ideal of being able to go down a dirt road you see off the hwy that leads into the distance, and it's not in your plans but you want to go anyway. I traded in my 2021 Outback.
Nice job! Very helpful.
Which LED charger lantern do you use? Please and thank you
