フレッド・W・ヨシムラは、1895年4月2日山口県で生まれました。 21歳のとき、日本にいる家族を養うために、成功した実業家になるという夢を抱いて渡米しました。 1917年21歳でカリフォルニア州サンフランシスコに到着しました。 1922年ヨシムラ氏はサンガブリエルに移り、下宿屋に泊まりながらガーデニングを学びました。 1920年代初頭サンマリノとパサデナでは、乾燥した気候に惹かれた人々によって多くの大邸宅が建設されていました。ヨシムラ氏は、これらの新しい住宅の多くで、造園とガーデニングに忙しく取り組みました。 当時、灌漑システムは富裕層だけが購入できる珍しいアイテムでした。ヨシムラ氏は、この地域でスプリンクラーシステム設置の先駆者の一人になりました。さまざまなガーデニングの仕事から、ヨシムラ氏は挿し木を手に入れ、それを使って自分の植物を増殖させました。園芸の仕事でいくらかお金を貯めた後、彼は小さな土地を借りて、ミッション・ナーサリーと名付けた自分の苗圃を始めることができました。

Well, hopefully someday I can get here and walk through this beautiful garden you took me to today it was just beautiful and every bit of it was a joy to watch.
